You are so right. I had the privilege to meet her at an event here in Atlanta many years ago. She was even more beautiful in person with stunning blue eyes and flawless skin. Absolute perfection. She is equally beautiful inside, she talked to me for a while and was so sweet and kind. She took 2 pictures with me that I still have to this day. I knew about her hobby of shellacking things, and I asked her if she had found anything to shellac on her trip. She said "No, but I've got my eye out".

I love seeing the love for Delta now adays. Back in the 80's/90's, society gave her HELL for gaining weight. It was merciless. I'm so proud of her for speaking out about the depression caused by societal cruelty. I'm also proud of her for for getting through it, and remaining so classy, real, earnest, kind, creative, and everything that made her great. She was such a wonderful roll model for fat people (women in particular), just by continuing to live her best life and not let the cruelty of the status quo crush her. I also love her husband, Gerald McRaney. (Major Dad). He married her right in the thick (pardon the pun) of all the hell the world was giving her for being fat. He was so proud to be with her, nomatter her weight. She could have still been fine without a man, but seeing a tall, handsome man truly happy and proud to be with her and standing up for her set a very good example for young men. You don't have to be mean to fat women, and you don't have to be ashamed to love one. (Being tall, handsome, and masculine doesn't make him any better than anyone else, but at the time it really did make an impact to prove that a fat woman could actually get a man like that.) Women can still be worthy and attractive even if they don't fit the mold society demands.

I dont think “society” gave her merciless hell. Her producers Linda bloodworth thomason and harry thomason yes. They treated Delta VERY badly. I dont think the abuse extended to the public.

I just seen a movie with her in it and was floored by how gorgeous she is. Her character was comedic but all I could think of was how absolutely beautiful she is. I vaguely recognized her (I was born in 88) so by the 90s when I recall she was hated on and weight shamed. I'm on a current rabbit hole and I do see she got a little bigger but nothing like I remember them saying
