Early 70s, I'll be bound, that first commercial. Captain is wearing the older Flying D cap badge that predates the Widget. I knew Bob Bolling (Ramp Agent). I worked on the ramp with him at JAX in the summers of 1971 and 72. A really nice guy, he was one of my favorite employees there.

I was lucky to fly to the USA as kid and in 1991 we flew on one of Delta’s first flights from Manchester to Atlanta on a brand new 767-300! We then transferred to Cleveland with a 737-200. We were visiting friends that my parents made in the US whilst on holiday in Florida in 1989. They also visited us in York, England and they loved all the sites and being in England enjoying living and staying with us. Good memories and the food and service was really nice back then

The worst Delta flight at the time of these ads is better than anything you're forced through today.

1:30 the great Len Gochman on the voice-over for Delta. He was one of all-time best commercial announcers. 7:33 the distinctive voice of Ed Grover for Delta. You'll recognize his voice from Visa commercials, and this iconic tagline: "Visa... it's everywhere you want to be."

Actually there have been 4 mergers in Delta’s history. Delta merged with Northwest Airlines in 2008 and had completely integrated them into Delta by 2010.

Uh, someone should have told the people who made the first commercial that the flight crew was no longer called "stewards" or "stewardesses"; they're now called flight attendants.

EricEbac. When I was hired by Delta in 75, we were called steward's I was referred to as Steward untill the mid 90's and on occasion, even to this day some older generation will refer to me as "oh Steward". Does it bother me? Not at all, why you ask, because it's just a name, I know I'm a flight attendant, but sometimes being referred to as a Steward, has a sense of regalness to it.
