Being part of the 75th is a hell of an accomplishment on its own man.

I served as a young Ranger Officer before transitioning outside the USMIL. What I learned in Regiment set me up success later on in my career. Everyday you are taught to comprehend and assess the battlefield to drive decision making. When you take a step back, and see how far the 75th Ranger Regiment has come between 2002 to 2019, it is absolutely incredible. What separates Regiment from the rest of the SOF community is "Specialty Schools"; like Dive and Halo. Some NSW and SF Dudes, and even some Decision Makers on Capitol Hill, will look down on Regiment for that. Some don't realize that a Ranger Team Leader, Squad Leader, or Platoon Sergeant has more formal training in those positions than anyone in the SOF community. It is very proud moment when Regiment is doing a mission, and a Decision Maker looks at you and says "That was a text book mission, and not a shot was fired. Tell the Ground Force Commander we said thank you and well done". Damn...

SF ODA's that did mostly direct-action missions were called "Combatant Commanders In-extremis Force (CIF) Company. I can't remember if every SF Battalion had a CIF Company or if it was every SF Group that had them. IIRC, Carl from the Tactical Rifleman Channel was in a CIF Company.

Every SF Grp had one CIF Company which was tasked with a Direct Action mission-that was our primary focus. If the Unit boys were deployed elsewhere or if they were coming but not on station when needed-we would make the hit.I was with A/1/5-which is 5th Grp.

I was an officer. I know they just view it as a tax. I know that Delta is going to skim a good portion of my meat eaters twice a year to attend selection and a percentage of them will be gone forever either because they made it, got hurt, or quit and is never the same afterwards. The chain of command will say things like “Just train more up,” but deny my requests for more school slots, ammunition, range time, etc. Then again, maybe they’re a part of a small corner of the armed forces I never saw.

I was in Civil Affairs (Mr. zero nobody), the last guys you want to see board your helo at the last minute, as you're headed out for a MedCap (pass out goodies, vitamins and do field treatment) is those guys. Some yoked up bearded rouges walk on your bird or ride a quad into the center and strap it down , as your ready to push out for a village. All bad and a sinking feeling comes over you...shooters never show up unless something bad is about to happen. Thoughts in your head, "what's about to happen? I don't need this, motherfxcker" then you start double checking you kit and wondering what haven't' they told me

75% of candidates fail OTC for The Unit.Far more than any other unit.Remember that only the best of the best get selected to attempt it-so this is far more difficult than you could possibly imagine.I graduated from OTC but didn’t get selected.I found out later that it was because I wasn’t laid back enough and had no sense of humor.I don’t feel badly about it now,but when it happened I was devastated.I went back to SF and had a great career, but I always had ridiculous respect for the D boys.

They have crazy physical training like most tier 1 ops but from what i seen and heard its the psychological training that sets them apart. Their selection process is different from everyone else, even devgru. Thats why very few get selected. Delta doesnt take the BEST guy, they take the RIGHT guy.

Yes, but on the flip side you can take these tier 2 guys and train them to a pretty high level, as he explained how they evolved throughout GWOT, bridging the capability gap between them.
