I'm glad you pointed out the colour difference. For a track car it wouldn't be too bad but if people watch this and want one for their daily you want a good colour match. Otherwise it's a great looking front end. Fitment looks a bit shit considering it's basednon what looks like a standard bumper with a different style. I wouldn't want to trim things off my daily to fit one. Still looks great.

Always extremely difficult to paint match when you don't have the car to hand so a shame but completely understandable. To get it perfect ideally you'd, shade match it then do spray out cards to see what matches best. With a lot of modern metallics even the direction you lay the paint can have a huge effect on the final finish and how it catches the light. If it's done by post you can always send a small part like the filler cap or wing mirror cap for them to compare against. Bumper looks ace Steve so this is just a small speed bump.

When you are spraying a metallic panel nearly every time it will need to be blended in to the adjoining panel or the colour will be slightly different. 99% of new cars have slightly different colour bumpers and in some cases it looks like a different colour, this is because the bumpers are painted somewhere else when the car is painted. You go out in your street and look at all the cars parked up, the bumpers and other plastic parts will look slightly different. That's usually how you can tell if a car has been in an accident if the bumper is the same colour as the wings and bonnet.
@DanLittlechild94
5 жыл бұрын
Following up on this. Static electricity effects the plastic parts more than metal which can shift the orientation of the silver in metallics. Even blending adjacent panels there could still be a difference in colours. Other factors play a apart such as application technique, amount of product on the panel, heat and humidity. Painting both the bumper and blend wings at the same time is the best way. (I'm a Paint Technician) Edit: Correct ground coat is very important too.
@Sparkplugsteve
5 жыл бұрын
Someone else's mentioned the primer. Ford use a black primer and the bumper has been done with a light primer. The bumper is lighter so do you think this is the issue?
@DanLittlechild94
5 жыл бұрын
@@Sparkplugsteve Not necessarily. If they put enough coats on then it should be correct for the shade they put on. However, on our paint system there are around 10 different shades of Deep Impact Blue which are all different. its very difficult to match a panel without doing spray outs and checking it against the car first. It might never be right but hopefully they can get a passable match you'd accept.
@Dan_druft
5 жыл бұрын
@@Sparkplugsteve So they call them Paint Technician's now do they ? Iv been spraying cars for 43 years and in my opinion the primer coat shouldn't make any difference, we always use a light grey 2K primer on everything, even when spraying small areas like bumper corners. If it's got 6 to 7 coats of basecoat blue and a couple of coats of 2K clearcoat it should cover nice and 99 times out of a hundred it will be the number 1 shade. I would imagine the colours is right but sending it away to be done probably wasn't the best idea, we have a mobile van that comes out to you and we would probably blend it in to the wings and I doubt most people would see the difference where the panel meets the bonnet.
