As we all know, Toby Fox is a master at re-using the same song multiple times and make it feel unique, so, between undertale and both capters of deltarune, How many non-reused songs we would have in total? And also, Which OST is the better one?

It's a common tactic used by film and game composers called a leitmotif. Not to diminish the musical achievements of Toby at all. It still takes an immense amount of creativity and talent to make this many bangers in a row.
@monwyn8538
2 жыл бұрын
the lemotifs actually works very deep, take the "don't forget" motif for example. it feels as if it's everywhere so when Toby make it into a song at the end of chapter one, it feels like the end of a journey

there's also TWR leitmotif in Spamton's themes, which, knowing Toby, probably means that Spamton and Jevil are connected somehow
@Mrpovea

@@bbew2914 My personal theory is that they are connected by the idea of freedom: jevil, although he is trapped in a little cage, is completly free from the narrative, and the action of the player, no matter if you put it to sleep or you try to kill it, you still can get the variant when the darkners come to help you against the king for not hurting anyone. Then we have spamton, wich is a puppet that wants to be free. if this is correct, then the secret boss of chapter 3 will also be relationed to freedom AND will have part of the same leitmotif

Don't know if anyone said this, but 'Before The Story' was originally the PS4 Home Screen music for when you have the Undertale background on I believe. Of course it was probably originally planned for Deltarune, but this is also used as a select file music after you have finished each chapter of the game so far. THE WORLD REVOLVING seems to have become a letimotiff in BIG SHOT along with 'Battle Against a True Hero' as well. The song itself has the main theme of Deltarune which I actually have no idea since I only heard as a letimotiff and it is pretty much the very first theme you hear in the game as well after the intro sequence. And yes, you are right when you said You Can Always Come Back Home is basically a rework of Home for Deltarune. Reason why is, spoilers, the home of your character is also Toriel's home at the Surface. FYI, The Circus and THE WORLD REVOLVING are all themes related to the secret boss jester called Jevil. You were pretty on point when you said evil clowns haha

By the way, there is actually a fast-paced battle theme version of 'Rouxls Kaard'. There was supposed to be a segment in the game in which Rouxls Kaard rides on top of a K. Round and fights you, but it was cut. The music that was going to play is 'Epic Rouxls Battle', I suggest checking it out! 👍

Since everyone else is suggesting various indie games soundtracks, might I suggest the music of LISA: The Painful? They're not really bangers, but they are...interesting. Though if you want bangers, I would also suggest the soundtracks of its fangames, particularly LISA: The Hopeful, LISA: The Timeless, and LISA The Pointless: Scholar of the Wilbur Sin

Hey do you plan to do a letsplay? I know you are a music coach channel, but if you have some time you could do a series on undertale and deltarune, you could make a gaming channel if you want. Thats of course if you have time and you wanna play it. If you aren't gonna make a series, i suggest playing on your own atleast, cause these games are magical experiences, you can probably tell from the OST

Loving your reactions man! I hope this boosts your subs. Toby fox took inspiration from many artists to make his own music style, one who I must emphazise is ZUN, creator and composer of the whole Touhou series. I wont say to react to all his music because Touhou has around 20 games jajaja, bit I hope you can someday listen to them, even if just bit by bit, one game at a time (they are not very long), he's know to use weird time signatures and out of the box thinking in his compositions, Im sure you'll find them really interesting. Thank you for everything man! Others have made also really good suggestions in the comments too.

I just finished my first semester back in music school after taking a 4 year break, and I have to say that I've been obsessed with Chaos King. I took a look at the music for the 3 measure instance where the song drops to two voices. I was hooked on it initially because because the lower voice sounded like the lead with a delay and changed rhythm, but it's so much more than that! Somehow, Toby Fox managed to break every single basic rule of counterpoint WITHOUT actually breaking ANY lf the rules, and it's utterly mind numbing to think about.
