Trying to get sober being a non-celebrity is hard enough. As an ex-addict the title of this video caught my eye. I thought I'd be dead by my own hand before I turned 30, but the survivor in me had other plans. I've been sober 19 years (consecutive😏 )& next month I'll be 61 years old.

Recovered addict here - in my opinion, addicts are different from regular people because they use drugs to mask deeper issues. I've been clean and sober for 4 years and the idea of altering my mind with any substance seems like the worst possible thing I could do. Once you get you mind, body, and spirit into a balanced state, you sober experience of reality is a thousand times better than anything you get from drugs. I'm grateful that my addiction forced me to do the inner-work that made me realize this.

Been “California sober” for 12 years and swear by it for me personally. Never relapsed on harder stuff again. More people need to understand the value of harm reduction but as Joe said people want to think of it in absolutes. Recovery is not black and white.
@muncher1753
3 жыл бұрын
No doubt. Everyone wants absolutes nowadays, whether it be with politics, drugs, diet, all of this shit. Why should any addiction be solved by going cold turkey or completely cutting it over time. Look at people that crash diet, or go on major diets, the fail rate isn’t even astonishing anymore. I firmly believe that moderation is the answer to most if not all of these problems. California sober is the essence of being happy. I’m Talking as a highly functional alcoholic. Although I do go on extended amounts of time of cold turkey but only because my moderation has gotten me used to Not drinking, as soon as I drink though I fight the need to consume by keeping my consumption moderated, instead of a bottle a night, I drink a bottle in 3-5 days But only if the bottle is opened. A way I keep myself cold turkey is by keeping the ‘Cork’ as a barrier

Yes maybe you two can get away with it, but that is very very rare when you are an ADDICT 95% of addicts can not just go enjoy a “couple” casual drinks with their friends that is very rare! Most addicts it has to be all or nothing it is very dangerous for most of us to even try to casually have a couple drinks because more times than not it will cause a full blown relapse why even risk it….good for you if you can do that but for the majority of us it does not work unless it’s all or nothing….so I completely agree….

looool.... In all seriousness though, Alcohol is a INSANELY powerful drug. 50$ worth of booze can easily kill you (and put you in worse state then crack, opiates/opiods, etc) . The substance is prettty addictive. What makes things worse society really makes it so easy to drink long enough to become addicted (sports events,dancing, family events etc). I once was getting the shakes after december to january. i had so many family,bar,hockey,new years events and got wasted at every one . The physical withdrawl is one of the few that can truly kill you by itself. I had methadone doctors tell me serious alcohol withdrawl is more dangerous then opiate withdrawl. Normally it takes a co morbidity for morphine withdrawl to kill you. This isn't the case with alcohol.... To me its pretty crazy you buy such a insanely powerful stubstance but not another... Im for more liberty but for far more harsher drunk driving penalties. Like 10 years license revoke at least for driving SERIOUSLY drunk (not just 2 beers )

It's just vernacular. When libs say that and they aren't being aggressive, it just means "my understanding is X" We don't know very many things 100%. Not that there isn't a such thing as objectivity but when it comes to why people do things and how things affect other people, it's just educated guesswork and our ego plays a big role in our perspective.
@Velereonics
3 жыл бұрын
@Benghali In Platforms And what is that result? Did you read what I wrote? They use it when they're talking about their perception of reality. Again, objectivity is definitely a real thing in certain contexts but in others it's not. If you pick unnecessary fights you're going to end up strung out. Some things radlibs are doing are extremely problematic but the existence of the term "my truth" is not one of them.
@Velereonics
3 жыл бұрын
@Benghali In Platforms No, actually. Your issue is that you're lumping them all together. I'm right wing, but I'm not right wing in the way Ben Shapiro is, as an example. There are marxists on the left. They are concerned with class, eg Ant*fa (not sure if that's a censored word). There are cultural marxists, these are trans activists, third wave feminists, race essentialists. Power+privilege people, basically. The term "cultural marxist" is a lot more vague than "marxist." I've seen it used to describe a ton of groups on the left and right. She falls more into that second category. In LA though, people like her are intensely nonconfrontational. Listen to where she uses the term. She's saying "even when I say what I believe to be true, I have to be careful because I'm a celebrity and I only work if my reputation is intact." I think like with Marxism you're conflating all uses of the term with the most aggressive use of the term. She's not attacking truth. She's saying she's sincere when she speaks. That's a good thing, I would think.

Replacing the drug of choice doesnt make it any less of an addiction. Idk why we stopped considering weed a drug. It's legal in a lot of places...cool but her controlling the fact she can have alcohol and weed just to prove she won't die from meth or heroine is not recovery. Imo. It's the same damn thing we just simply look the other way.

I have a friend thats a former alcoholic, he lost his job, his family, his kids, everything. Went to rehab, come out, was good for a bit but was totally unhappy. He started drinking again, but before he got too addicted he started smoking weed. He doesn't drink any alcohol, he has a good job back, visition with his kids, and he smokes in the evenings and is in a good place and this has been going on for years.

@@jdbsoccer100 he can do it but only if he wants to. No ones too far gone, but they have to want it - that’s the hard part. He’s so young! It wasn’t until I was 30 when I wanted to do/be better. I’ve been California sober for several years now and I believe weed has helped keep me sober. My emotions just go crazy sometimes and it’s uncontrollable... having a joint ready for me in the evening gives me something to look forward to when I’m struggling. And that truly makes all the difference.

I hope she stays clean. I really like her. My younger sister is her biggest fan and Demi and I have a similar history with drugs (except i’m not famous). It’s really hard being an addict. I’ve been sober for 8 months and the world is just a freakin trigger for us. I admire everyone who can pull up a fight with their own demons. It’s not easy but is not impossible, i’m struggling but i’m staying sober day by day. It’s crazy how we change when we are sober and realize what the fuck was going on with us.. the judgement and pressure make everything more heavy but I’ve found a higher power that helps me with that. Good luck to everyone who are also in this battle and please stay sober!

My daughter suffers from depression and anxiety. There’s no conversation or amount of love that makes it go away. You just learn to cope and keep moving as I see it. It’s very sad and there were no warning signs I could identify. I couldn’t help thinking , I hope my daughter doesn’t find herself in this place in her life where hard drugs become the answer or worse. I’m a tough dude and can take a lot, but watching my beautiful, intelligent, loving and driven daughter go through this...man words can’t explain. I wish the best in the future for Demi, my daughter and any others who suffer from these things as well. 🙏

I was addicted to a lot of things and I smoked weed my whole life too. But when I got off everything else I depended HEAVILY on weed then that became another addiction for me. When I didn’t have it I’d have full blown panic attacks, shakes, racing thoughts, paranoia, insomnia, couldn’t eat and overall just be veryyyy mean to people over nothing. So I had to stop smoking and completely find myself before I could try it again. I tried it again bc it was never the problem until I stopped the hard stuff, and I realized I was using it as a numbing bandaid
