The Ultem scales on my AD20.5 cracked when I tightened them down too much…it wasn’t even really that hard. I got some of the thick aluminum Original GOAT scales to put on it and it made the knife infinitely better. You get that metal “tink” sound when it closes now and it just melts into your hand. I’m so excited to get this seeing it comes with and aluminum option and am also toying with the thought of buying one in Titanium for $50 more. I will be selling my Microtech Stitch to get this. The stitch is a great knife but as Nick Shabazz would say…it’s too big and “murdery” looking for my style 😂. Thanks for the good review. The 20.5 has become my favorite knife over the last year and I have a lot of knives.

I've got one of the Ultem AD 20.5s en route from BladeHQ since they just slashed prices on all of em. I figure worst comes to worse I can go that same route. If you ask me, definitely worth getting the aluminum one, just feels a little more solid and makes the whole knife more satisfying as a result. Glad you enjoyed the review!

Watched this video multiple times. Very well done. I picked up the slicer blade shape aluminum body cub and immediately shelved my bugout. This thing is crazy good. The lock is exceptional in terms blade deployment and retractment. Just a joy to use after the 24 - 48 hour break in period. I cant imagine something coming out better suited for everyday EDC.

Thank you! I think a lot of people who pick up the Shark Cub after owning the Bugout will have a similar experience. Feels like it fits a very similar role, and for a lot of people it's going to serve that role better. I dig the Bugout, but this one is nearly as light, just as slicey, and feels a little more capable and enjoyable to handle and use. Thanks for the comment!

This was a fantastic review, covered all the bases and completely convinced me to buy a shark cub in the future haha! Very well done. A few comments, Cold Steel had a great reputation with the American Lawman and similar knives, which all use the Triad lock, so it was less about the Demko models on offer and more about how the lock really pushed the brand to new heights. Next, the lock that snecx uses is called the superlock, similar actuation but the actual design of the lock is quite distinct from the shark lock in terms of the internal functioning. In addition to this, sandrin has The Recoil lock, which is actually a partial but not complete copy of the superlock, which is funny because the intention of putting the superlock out there according to the designer was to have anyone and everyone use it in their designs exactly as it is, which sandrin actually fail to do with their models. Finally, there were some wording mix-ups when you were talking about the ultem versus g10, I think you might have said G10 several times where you meant to say ultem. Honestly, I have no idea why I'm nitpicking like this, I think it's because you come off as someone who can achieve a very high standard of reviewing and I can't help but feel compelled to make comments to help you improve in whatever estimation I perceive. Apologies for any typos or grammar errors, I use voice dictation, and double apologies for the wall of text. Have a great one

Not at all! I love constructive criticism! I am still learning how KZitem's comments back-end works. I usually batch-process comments when I have time, and some comments just don't show up properly! I do my best to respond to everybody who takes the time to comment, but my time is a lot more limited these days than it was a couple months ago. Thanks for pointing out that I missed this one!

The nitpicking is great, the details matter! Since I published this review, I've started working more off a written script (bullets) so I get little details like this right, because they are important! (Go back to my Atom review...I made some big mix-ups there!) I'm hoping these days I'm getting a few more of those details correct. :) And yes, you are totally right on the superlock...I'm a BIG fan of Snecx's work, and I only referred to them as similar to try to be helpful to the audience who may be familiar with one or the other. I've finally got a superlock in my hands with Tactile's Chupacabra, and I'm SUPER impressed! (Pun intended) I'll have a review of that one coming up, but from the first impression I've gotten with that knife, there are a couple things I like better about the Shark Lock, but the Superlock has a few things going for it as well. I've had a Torino on my list for a while. I doubt I'll get my hands on one anytime soon - I've got too much of a backlog to work through - but I'd love to give it a shot at some point. I really appreciate the support. I AM trying to reach a high standard, and I love nothing more than people that will set that bar high for me and hold me to it. I crank these reviews out in batches, read comments and feedback, and try to make the next batch better than the last one. Thank you for taking the time!

What I want to know is, is the cub clip point slicier than the actual cub sized slicer blade? cause they’re all the same stock thickness - and at least on shark cub versions - it looks like the clip point has a higher grind than the actual slicer blade shape, allowing it to theoretically come to a thinner edge. I only have the Ti Slicer cub at the moment, so I’m hoping to get the clip point in either ultem or Ti

I want that shark cub but I really don’t care for m390/20CV.. Wish they offered different steel options. $200 is $200

I'm sure we'll get some down the road. It's still a relatively new model, and the AD20.5 originally only came out in AUS8 (or some steel like that, I don't quite remember). It seems like it sold well enough they'll keep making more. We're surely going to get Magnacut at some point, and I think this could work really well in M4, too.

Think the best comparison to the Cub would be the Para3
@CTKKnives
Ай бұрын
It's a whole lot thinner and slicer, and easier to carry! Not as tough, but if you ask me, it's probably tough enough and you don't need a 3" knife to be THAT tough.

I had a couple G10 shark cubs and found they had issues with the action being gritty even after cleaning, lubing and the addition of skiff bearings. Did you notice an issue with your G10 version vs the aluminum one ?
@CTKKnives
8 ай бұрын
No, unfortunately (well, fortunately for me), I haven't had that same experience. The action on all mine has been solid from the start, though the aluminum one was definitely a little smoother out of the box, and remains a (almost imperceptible) bit smoother today. I wouldn't be surprised if something is just not quite flat on yours, which is always a risk with production knives. And is a bummer, because if that's the case it'll be hard to fix. Not sure how good the Demko warranty is, but could be worth a shot?

Hi, great review. How would rate this to the maxamet native 5 ? considering this or the native 5 for a small edc. Thanks a.

I couldn’t decide either so I bought them both along with some others last week. I can say with confidence you will most likely like the demkos better.

The Maxamet Native 5 is my favorite 3" EDC knife at anywhere near $200. It's a VERY different-feeling knife...thicker, chunkier, more deliberate action...but it absolutely can't be beat for utility. The Shark Cub is great, but the Maxamet Native 5 is as good as it gets. So my recommendation is to go with that, but they're both excellent options.
