16 days till St. Patrick's Day!
I learned this tune for the Online Academy of Irish Music (OAIM) and recorded it while on a dream trip to Ireland! I recorded this video while adventuring around Ireland. The Athgreany stone circle (aka Piper's Stones) in County Wicklow is the subject of an ancient legend warning that anyone caught dancing at this sacred spot on a Sunday would turn to stone. The stones are arranged in a circle with a lone stone on the outside, representing a jolly piper and dancers who, long, long ago, did not heed the warnings about frolicking on the Sabbath day and were duly immortalized as giant granite boulders.
So, I was taking a bit of a risk when I cracked out my fiddle there to film this on Sunday, 11/12/2023. Thankfully, I survived!
Surrounded by rolling hills and showcasing an old hawthorn (fairy!) tree, it was a magical place to play a tune, and yet another wonderful memory from my first visit to Ireland. 💚
I'm adding a new tune each day until 3/17/2024. Check out the full playlist here:
