I do find it ridiculously shortsighted of the rest of Europe not to simply give significant aid to Ukraine, to end the war swiftly. However, as it stands now, with how it's dragging on, Russia is also putting a lot of their economic capability into the war. If one was to be very cynical, one might suggest taht the European leaders think the losses in Ukraine are a fair price in order to cripple Russia. The longer the war drags on, the better. If you were cynical.
@MilitaryRated

Agreed! The dithering from the old ‘great powers’ is really cynical.
@ashamahee
2 күн бұрын
There are two sides to this, yes we could provide enough to end the war fast, but then history would merely repeat itself and Russia would be knocking again in a decade or less so the policy of crippling Russia although the cost is high for Ukraine, it will most likely lead to ending the Russian threat to Ukraine and Europe for several generations to come which will in turn allow Ukraine to prosper and build up into a position of power and wealth that it has not seen before in its history. The other issue is that EU military hardware purchases were in 2022 78% made from outside the EU, and the vast majority of that came from the USA, Europe simply did not have the infrastructure or manufacturing capabilities to make the weapons and the Americans are constrained because they need to supply both the EU and USA along with other major allies around the globe, so even if some of the Europeans wanted to give as much as they could the reality is that it wasnt really a possibility but that is something that the EU is actively working on improving with the EDIS initiative and we are already seeing massive increase in manufacturing capacity of weapons systems and munitions and it will increase a lot more according to the EU plan which in turn will enable Ukraine to receive far more of everything without the need of the Americans. It is unfortunate but these things take time to build up, the good news for us in the EU is that our leaders are taking the steps necessary and not just speaking cheap words and we will be in a much better position in the future to deal with our own security going forwards.

@@ashamahee Ah, I wasn't aware there was a literal lack of physical shit to send there. if every country donated just half of what Denmark has done in Military Aid. the small incursion into Kursk, would not just be Kursk, but the entire completely open and almost non defended Border regions, Ukraine would likely had been able to take more land in 2 months than Russia did in the entire 2 years of their invasion.. also Russia would have had much larger losses and Ukraine would have fewer, not to mention the amount of Ukrainian territory Russia would have under it's control would be much lesser.. so yeah truly had we given what Ukraine needs, this war would have been over already, as Ukraine would have the upper hand and a shit ton of land to Bargain with, not to mention the Russian people would see Putin as the weakest war leader in Russia's history and know that he was weak in a war of his own making, and if there is something Russian's don't like, it's a weak leader

Sadly a lot of countries don’t do as was Danes do. I’m specially disappointed of Germany and France. I’m also disappointed of how the US frame their aid, because most of their money stay in the US, our aid doesn’t. If the biggest countries did more, Ukraine would have had less losses and doing better. Most of the US aid goes to modernization of their own military, thereafter sending old equipment to Ukraine, that should properly have been scraped anyway. Trump is just full of BS, even more aid lies.

Thus I consider that there is room for Seden to get some more of our hardware to Ukraine without any security risc. ...so there is room for nagging Sweden a bit via comparing us to Denmark's dedication. Didnt russia already cross that red line? War crimes? Directly Executing soldiers that surrendered? targeting civilians on purpose? Children hospital? Like where is our red line???? And my mindset atleast is: after ukraine what then? next exspansion? more n@zist contries? where is the end? Its actually helping countries like the US. Because they dont have to use tax payer money to store old equipment that is anyway about to be scraped because its old and scrapping it is more expensive then sending it to Ukraine, even if you say use it for training, then i should tell you that there isnt enough training days or personal to go thru all the equipment. Missles use jet fuel it gets bad after a few years. The "money" send is just the value of the equipment. Please send more aid to Ukraine. NATO is a defence allience against Russia/Soviet aggression. Considering our GDP alone, we're only doing our minimum regarding NATO recommendations... if you throw in our population to the equation... we're doing quite well... But that doesn't discount the effort of neither Poland or the Baltics which have been amazing. That said... I'm not exactly embarrassed about the effort my country has shown to counter the aggression. And I do realise that there's a limit to how much can be done without a referendum. Anyway the video glorifies it more than necessary.

As of June 2024 Denmark is now spending 2.37% of GDP on defense according to the latest NATO Defence Expenditure of NATO Countries (2014-2024) report. This do not include all what Denmark is spending on non-NATO Ukraine, some do, some do not, like the 0.2% Denmark has spend through the EU, which in itself is almost as much as the 0.3% the USA have been spending on Ukraine in all.
@BenjaminVestergaard
Күн бұрын
@@agffans5725 alright, so we are above the 2% ... but it does somewhat include our military contributions to Ukraine, as we're spending more on our own military because we're "retiring" our own equipment by sending it there. But you're probably right about the efforts that go through EU, don't think that ends up on our defense budget.

As a dane, I'm fine with us helping Ukraine. But it's sad to see our European partners donating so little in comparison. Why should we spend so much more than the big economy's like Germany, Italy, Spain and France? That's what's lame to me. Could have won the war, if they have stepped up like Denmark.

Considering we can give almost 2% of our GDP to Ukraine then we could easily live up to our commitment to NATO which we are failing at the moment.

As the video show Denmark provides most of all in percentage of GDP. Then you want us to do more by copying POOtin´s illegal behaviour! The Kingdom of Denmark consists of Denmark, Faroe Islands, Greenland. Faroe Islands and Greenland have extended self rule and while Denmark have decided to have no Russian import, Faroe islands decide for themselves. I strongly disagree with their decision to allow fishing ships to land there but not our call. Denmark cannot block international shipping to the Baltic Sea since that is accessible through International waters! However should POOtin begin warfare against NATO, it will be a different matter, where Denmark and new NATO member Sweden could ensure this straits blockage. Maybe you should think a bit deeper before writing comments. And maybe use your energy on getting your own nation to contribute more! WE NEED to stop POOtin. Innocent Ukrainians are dying as some despicable do not do their part.

When Zelensky visited the Danish parliament to give thanks for not least the F-16 donations, also making an outdoor speech for a large crowd of Danes outside the parliament building, only 1 protester showed up, waving a Russian flag. I guess she was a Russian immigrant or from the Russian embassy. Every single party from the far left to far right in the Danish parliament, support the military donations to Ukraine.
@agffans5725
Күн бұрын
I will agree that it's much easier for Danish politicians to make these donations, unlike the UK that has a £22 billion budget deficit this year, and the enormous debt of the USA, then "tiny" Denmark has seen an increasing government budget surplus in the range of around £7bn to £14 billion a year since 2021, despite a huge increase in military spending's and the several £ billions worth of military aid for Ukraine.

@@agffans5725 wtf? Did my comment somehow seem pro Russian to you or something? Its not, i dislike all the major powers. I am just saying that like with bank bailouts the Danish people have no choice. If 90% of Danes were against weapons for Ukraine, they would still have gotten the money just like the banks did. Its never a popular vote. Politicians just take your taxes and spent it how they see fit. If you happen to agree with that choice you feel proud and if not you complain, but in the end it makes 0 difference. I am sorry but i find that rather pathetic. Like a child playing an adult you pretend that you matter to the process when you obviously don't.

???? If people wasn't behind this, then our politicians would not have put this into action. And it does have an effect on all of us, almost 2% of GDP is not nothing. For starters the money could have been spend for lots of other things, while our economy is doing well it is not like we could find good use for the money. And also don't forget it is much more than money, it is also humanitarian aid, taking in refugees, training Ukrainians and more. Still I think we should do even more, it is a fight against evil that must be won.

@@1112viggo Of course we have influence, we live in a democracy. However, we pretty much all agree on this topic, so the politicians can make these decisions without fearing the wrath of their voters at the next election. That unity, when it comes to helping Ukraine, makes us proud. Why do you have a problem with that?
