I was offered a job to work at a dental school to be a sterile processing tech. I quit doing is once before because working at a hospital can become stressful. I feel like a dental school and the instruments they use would be alot easier than working at a hospital. Is this true?

There are a number of inconsistencies and patient safety concerns in this video. Please refer to the AAMI ST:79 and the IFUs for the products being used when preparing your instruments for sterilization.

In the video there was a skipped step: the HCP DID NOT WASHED HER HANDS AFTER SHE REMOVED HER GLOVES, BEFORE PUTTING ON THE UTILITY GLOVES! ...I wonder how many other steps might be missing when they are NOT FILMED!?🤔😐🦷🦷👀

At minute 3.08 it shows the user putting the pouch into the chamber plastic side down. This is a incorrect placement. The Manufacturers Instructions for use for this particular unit states loose pouches must be placed Paper Side Down. This is a gravity process Sterilizer and as such Paper Side Down allows any moisture to wick out the paper side during the drying phase. Ultimately the best procedure is to place the pouches in a rack, on their side giving the best results to dry.

Check your dry time settings and or how many items are you placing in the autoclave to sterilize. You maybe over crowding

Single layer paper side down. Steam rises to sterilize the instruments as they cool the steam displayed through the paper side of the pouch. Would you dry your eating utensils on plastic or paper?🤷♀️

Hi could you clarify if the tray is being sterilised in the autoclave as the video only shows that it's being wiped? Also to dry the instruments after rinsing post-ultrasonic, is towel dry the recommended way? Just a clean towel? Or sterile towel
@shannontang7793
4 жыл бұрын
After ultra sonic you can use any towel . Once it goes through auto clave everything will be sterile . Just make sure you know post ultrasonic instruments are not sterile and still consider contaminated . Don’t touch the towel with bare hands .

After the ultrasonic you must immerse and brush under water to remove the chemicals and any grosse soil. Ultrasonics only loosen debris they dont remove debris. After brushing with a clean brush , you have to rinse for 3 seconds under distilled water. Air dry is better than cloth if you must use then it has to be a lint free disposable towel. Now you can pack in pouch . Read your standards, better still use EN standards American standards havent caught up with ISO, EN or AS. Be better do better for your patients.

Hi Jessica, thank you for sharing your expertise. As it says in the description, this video is only a tiny sneak peek into one of our full "Dental Assisting - Disinfection, Sterilization and Bloodborne Pathogens" modules. Each of our modules includes a full video, descriptive step-by-step text, simulations and quizzes. There is a LOT to learn about this topic and a 3-minute video simply cannot do that, as you have pointed out!!
@jenshaw8085

I understand that not everything can be added to a short video. Unfortunately standards are not followed and everyone is happy to follow a 3 min video than follow actual compliant processes. Makes my job very difficult and as a consultant i loose a lot of work because of it. At the end of the day ,it is about $$$$$.

This is why the dental industry has such high levels of infections. Instruments did not get cleaned properly before placing in the ultrasonic, packaged using the same gloves you handled the dirty Instruments with and the transport tray just receiving a wipe down. So much is wrong in this scenerio.
@SIMTICS

Hi. Thanks for your feedback. This video is just a tiny part of our full eLearning module (which includes explanatory text, full video, simulation and quiz) - so, as it says in the description, this video clip is only a "sneak peek". I've just added a note to emphasize that it's not a full instructional lesson on its own - something so complex and detailed, and so important for infection control, cannot possibly be covered in a 3-minute video clip!
@jaslblacklopez
3 жыл бұрын
@@SIMTICS all that is well understood but the take away from this tiny part is that the sum of the whole would be a process completed incorrectly. Packaging with the same gloves or even the same looking gloves where dirty instruments was handled could be corrected and edited out of a three min video. And writing on the paper side of a peel pack is wrong in any type of video. For those that don't know you may be catching their attention but for those who know would show this video as a "what not to do."
