No problem. If you are not thrilled by what you are learning, you are smart to change careers now. I know many dentists (and teachers, accountants, lawyers etc.) who hate what they do but keep doing it because they invested so much time and money to become what they are. Hope you find something you love doing!

I am a 4th year dental student and I delivered complete denture over partial denture yesterday; however, patient does not have retention on maxillary denture so we will first do soft reline with COE SOFT and then do hard lab reline. This is very helpful! Thank you team!!

@@mrk4510 Most people here who are watching this video will be students like me, and a lot of us here are practicing for the first time on patients (we will be supervised) and this video is a way to observe how an experience dentist will do their own soft reline. A professional dentist will most likely be very confident in their ability to do this 😂

The reline "works" by compensating for shrinkage that happens after tooth extractions, or just from wearing dentures. Soft relines are temporary and usually used to fit a denture after tooth extractions. Hard relines are used for the smaller changes that happen during normal denture wear.

Excellent video. I am a special makeup effects artist. I've a lot of experience making acrylic fangs and dentures for creature performers. I've recently been asked if I can make generic monster teeth that can be post-fitted to anyone as certain performers have not been cast yet for an upcoming project. I've been thinking about creature teeth with a hollowed gum area and using the soft relign flexacryl material to fit them to whatever performer end up being cast. There's no issue with the soft flexacryl bonding to teeth?

My husband is also a professional Special FX make up artist and he's known for making perft teeth. Many people ask him to do real professional teeth, it's too bad its against the law because he could save a lot of peeps in pain. How long have you done FX? Where did you go to school?

I'm not sure what ED is, but I assume it means you just got some teeth extracted and an immediate denture delivered. The first few weeks are the hardest - the dentures fit the worst, the gums swell, then shrink - things are changing everywhere. Best thing is to call your dentist and explain your concerns. These are common initial impressions that all dentists handle.

Soft relines always leave such a taste in my mouth for up to a week or more. nothing seems to get out the taste. I've had to resort in using Comfort lining its a thermoplastic denture adhesive there isn't a taste but it only last up to a week.

Hello doc, thank you for making this video, very helpfull for me to study about relining 🙏. I have question, So when we do direct relining it will only last for a 4 to 6 weeks if we use soft liner, but if we use hard liner it can last for years ? I've search that soft reline has 3 categories (tissue conditioners (short term) plasticized acrylics and silicon elastomer (long term)) but i still don't understand about the differences with hard reline ? Thank you doc 🙏

I saw your previous comment but wasn't sure if you really were a dental student or just a troll. Lets assume this is an honest question. Being a dentist is as good or bad profession as anything else. if you have the mental and dexterity skills to do it well, find it interesting, and enjoy the feeling of helping people with some really serious problems, then yes it is a great career. I've been deeply committed to it for over 30 years, and still feel there are new things all the time.

Doc what methods else are there to attain retention in case of mandibular denture, if denture made by you is rocking in patient's mouth? And it's one of bite case .
@josephvalenzi7791

A rebase involves taking the entire pink acrylic base off and replacing it. It's a much more involved procedure. Usually one to two days in the lab. And more expensive as a result. Only needed if there are major problems with the bite or the base is severely damaged.

If it is turning black, it will need to be replaced. These soft relines are really only meant to last at most a few months. Then they can get bacterial or fungal growths, as well as lose their elasticity.

amykins812 - to answer your questions: 1) the reline shouldn't interfere with the healing of the extractions sockets as long as the material has been trimmed properly. It shouldnt protrude into the holes. 2) the white material is extra soft and is preferred by many dentists. None are meant to last a long time so the unsightliness won't last 3) Yeah.....it tastes horrible, but it does go away eventually. Sorry about that!
@legaleagle46

"Tastes horrible" is an understatement. It is the foulest, worst-smelling and tasting material I have EVER encountered -- and it really does burn like hell for several minutes afterwards. Still, it's part of the process, so I'l l soldier on through it. Also: tell your patients NOT to use adhesives before getting their first reline. My dentist scolded me for using adhesives before the first reline, because he said it made it hard to tell whether the dentures had ever been sitting properly on my gums to begin with and it also obscured them to the point that he couldn't really tell where the sore spots in my mouth are.

My dentist did this for me today, I am 11 post extractions.. 1) will this interfere with the wholes closing up? 2) the stuff she used is white.. Wish it was pink because it made the gum part of my denture an unnatural color. and 3) it taste horrible.. It has been 10 hours since she put it in and it still tastes horrid. Like there is an aspirin on my tongue..

I paid $450.00!!! I have insurance that covered most of it. It’s ridiculous because you can do your own with DentureFit for about $70.00!! This lasts for about a few months. I didn’t think I was going to be charged for the reline as I’m a private pay patient and usually pay in cash!

What is the difference between a soft reline material that is colored 'pink' vs. 'fiber pink'?
@WhiteWolfDentalGroupPortOrange
10 жыл бұрын
"Fiber Pink" usually just means that the manufacturer added colored fibers to the material to make it look more natural. Real gums are not a uniform color, but show blood vessels and color variation. The fibers help with this look. They are not added for strength or any other properties

Well, no one has ever complimented me on the taste of the material, but soap is not a flavor I've ever heard mentioned. I had one patient said it tasted like licking old Firestone tires, (although I don't know how he knew that). Soft reliners have "plasticizers" which keep them soft. These leech out over time and the liner gets harder. You could be tasting these plasticizers.

@WhiteWolfDentalGroupPortOrange

T Bass Yes the patient is able to swallow as we do not "overfill" the denture to the point where it may go down the throat. In the video you will notice a small amount of excess, but this sticks to the denture and does not flow away from it. The procedure is easy and comfortable. To illustrate the ease of the procedure, patients that require sedation for their dental surgeries do not do sedation for soft relines. I hope this lowers your fear over the procedure.
