This song is a personal and musical evolution of Dave Gahan...It's about how lost he was and how he fell in love and came back to himself, emerged from abyss...I also think it is partly dedicated to his wife (it's not coincidence she plays an angel in here), it's about what could have happened if he hadn't met his wife (The moment they drove past drunken and dead Dave). It's about chosing life and love. Beautiful and personal

Agreed. I think the "DM's Bridal Shop" is also a reference to what life would have been like if he hadn't "married" his band. They are trapped behind glass and sad, and he staggers out into the snow without them.

I hear you. I grew up with America, Eagles and such in the 70's/ In my 20's depeche mode came out. I notice after several years no matter what I always had to get a fix of there music in every day. I still like America, Pink Floyd etc. However I long ago realized this is my favorite band. Like a old Paul McCartney song silly love songs. What's wrong with that its boring. You grow up something more edgier is way better. I was glad Clarke and Bell left in the mid 80's we would have been stuck with pop music.

I am revisiting Depeche Mode and grew up as an 80s kid obsessed with alternative music. Their music was polished then and, at least to me, they were old souls, and ironically, ahead of their time. I am enjoying their new music now. Their music is timeless. Thank you.

This is not my favorite DM song but it is the one that hit closest to home. I went through a time after being in immense pain due to an injury where I stopped taking pain medication. When stopping I was so hooked on the legal dope my life was miserable. Felt like I had the worst flu for a good 5 months. I would listen to this song every day after getting out of a hot shower and feeling like I was freezing to death while hot outside getting ready for work. Just knowing what Dave Gahan had went through with withdrawals and kicking his dope habit I knew when he sang to just hang on and suffer well that indeed sometimes it's hard. I am forever grateful for the words of encouragement from someone else who has walked through my shoes and stumbled through my footsteps.

This has to be one of the most moving videos Anton Corbijn has ever produced - to go with one of Depeche Mode's most moving songs. It always chokes me up. Especially seeing Jennifer Sklias-Gahan as the angel. xx

The song was so meaningful...you can see what he went through during his chaotic lifestyle and was literally saved by the angel aka his now wife...just a beautiful transformation!!!

Long time Depeche Mode fan here. I'm talking about since Photograph etc. We used to play pool listening to Catching Up. I love so many of their songs and I love Alan Wilder era but this may be one of their best and most real songs. Really hits deep to the core while still being insanely catchy. If his Wife is the Angel in this video like some have said then it makes it all the more interesting. Really seems to show a sort of condensed version of this life journey we're all here experiencing if you're reading this in "middle earth" God bless..

Dave Gahan has suffered more than anyone can imagine, the miracle is although he is alive and he still has a passion for music, he didnt have any passion for live anyway, I admire very much that the whole band has still any kind of interest in the music biz anyway regarding the sh... thats coming out nowadays

I just got home from seeing DM live in Portland. Fantastic show. I wish they would have played this one and Dream On.
