I've suffered in silence with severe anxiety and mild depression for years and the times that I brought it up to my mom, she would always scare me with being taken to a psych ward. I was just now prescribed some meds. I'm nervous but I'm hoping it works. 🖤🖤🖤

How are the meds working? Which one were you given?

Hey Queen. Check your magnesium and potassium levels. Don’t trust the blood magnesium test. Magnesium would help you a lot

It’s refreshing to hear another black Queen talk depression medication. I recently decided to go back on anti depressants. I’ve have been on and off them since a teen but would stop after feeling better or after hearing the our community day that it kills your spirit and your dependent on pharmaceuticals. I tend to judge myself for not doing r Pugh to keep me out of depression. It’s still early on but I’m excited to be better. -Thank you for sharing, much appreciated ❤️

Thank you for this! I have struggled with depression for years as well and found no progress with therapy. I eat fairly well but I don't have a social life or support, which I think contributes to my depression.

really helpful video, there is indeed a huge stigma with depression and mental health in general

Thank you so much for sharing! I know that my depression is better when I assume the best in people instead of hearing only the worst intent someone could have. I will say the there is still a lot of debate around the serotonin imbalance idea and I think we should all be focusing on the macro contributors to depression. it is not a coincidence that our generation is extremely depressed or that there is a loneliness epidemic.

Yeah it is definitely peculiar. Honestly I think that depression and anxiety are often SYMPTOMS of a larger problem and then doctors choose to treat the symptom and not the real issue. For example, I know a few people who suffered from ADHD their whole lives but also depression and or anxiety, but when they found out in adulthood (on their own), they alerted their doctors to start treating the ADHD not the symptoms.

@@SavonnePearson exactly! I think a lot of natural reactions have been pathologized. It's normal to be depressed in a depressing situation. We have so much going on at large that naturally it will impact the individual. Love your videos!

thank you for making this video and being so open! i had an ex who had been taking anti depressants when we first met and she had said that it was doing wonders for her. her psychiatrist doubled her dosage one day and i noticed a huge change in behaviour. her symptoms worsened and she was acting differently. i have heard that these changes in dosage can have a significant impact on someone because they're already used to a certain amount. do you think it's possible to reverse these changes made by the adjustment in dosage or does the person just get used to this new adjustment?
@SavonnePearson

Yeah so dosage definitely plays a big role. From my understanding in that case I think it could be either or, the medication could be TOO much for her body to handle and she needs to lower the dose (most likely) or she would need to wait it out to see if she adjusts. It’s all trial and error essentially.

Maybe you should try eating more, a negative energy balance is not very good for your brain either.

I am also prescribed AD but I am too scared to start taking them. They have long horrifying list of side effects, as usual, but what scares me even more is commitment. I know it has to be long term and monitored by md neurologist, but at this point I have no idea if I will have job in few months and I know from personal experience how withdrawal can be horrific when you don't do it properly.
