I had been on Prozac or Wellbutrin for 10 years. In 2019 I weighed 246lbs and was depressed as heck. I fired my doctor (pill pushing stooge) early 2020. Went on a Ketogenic diet, lost 80lbs and quit all my meds except Levothyroxin. I feel WORLDS better. I get outside every day. Grew a garden last year and plan to enlarge it this year. I got chicks last year and I'm now egg RICH and able to supply my neighbors. I enjoy interacting with them daily also. Stop eating sugar, high fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin, wheat, and seed oils. My arthritis is SO much better. My asthma is GONE. I was able to stop using my CPAP after losing the weight. My life has become happier, simpler and less painful. Keto takes about 3 weeks before the cravings disappear. There is such freedom in no longer being a slave to food.

Keto improved my mental health symptoms but carnivore reverses them entirely. I was diagnosed bipolar II in 2002, and a few years later I was diagnosed with mild psychosis. For the last several years I've been unmedicated (because I was low income and my local MHMR was horrible and I stopped going), and treating myself with supplements and coping mechanics, some healthy, some not, and for the last several years my symptoms have mostly been near-constant anxiety and depression, with occasional mild mania and paranoia. That's all gone now, and stays gone as long as I stay carnivore. If I eat off plan I get a mild return of symptoms, which I'm sure would become full-blown symptoms if I continued eating off plan.

I still had quite a bit of anxiety, that at times froze me in a state of fear. 15 years ago I went through all the medications. They turned me into a zombie, which was VERY depressing. One day I just quit, got a gym membership, and left the gym feeling better than I felt in a long time.... Still, depression lingered but working out helped a lot. I began micro-dosing testosterone, and that kicked things up a notch... but that ran out.... and I was back to square one. I was still consuming a lot of carbos at the time. Recently, I began taking Vitamin B1. In one dose... one lousy 100mg cap, my anxiety disappeared. I've been taking supplements for decades, amd never had anything affect me so profoundly. Now I'm taking sublingual, 100mg, and my depression has been cut by half, and more. Keto has improved my health, but I've still sleep and virtigo issues...

I thought I had horrible disease and after few months I was IP in the hospital. They diagnosed me with idiopathic peripheral neuropathy and anxiety. They didn't offer much help or info on neuropathy but they gave me depression med that I've taken for years. One reason I took it is because if I didn't take it for couple days I get brain zaps. Last year I has relapse with neuropathy which led me to Dr Berry channel. All the tests show no major issue except pre-diabetes. I went low carb last year and it helped a ton and then I lost 40lbs. Interestingly, I've weaned myself off the Lexapro and am not getting brain zaps. I think the high carb diet was the cause of many of my health issues. I feel much better now.

I must agree with this video. When I went on keto for 2-3 years (roughly 4 years ago) my mental health was much better. Getting back on it. The physical and mental improvement while being on keto is "worth it" for me when others want to criticize how unsustainable it is. To that, I say, "Hey. You do you, boo." 😉

I started Keto/Carnivore (+ intermittent fasting) for weight loss. I stayed for the other benefits, most notable of which was managing my depression. It works better than any prescription I ever used. I was quite literally on disability for depression for many years. Now gainfully employed and loving it. I consider my diet to be my prescription strength antidepressant. I can't say it will work for someone else, but it has worked wonders for me.

I was diagnosed bipolar over 20 years ago, with periodic depression issues. I was able to stop my bipolar meds by very carefully ensuring adequate sleep, but still had some issues, and would call off work a few times a year to reat when I felt myself spiraling down. This worked ok for about 10-15years. Then I did keto, low carb, avoiding vegetable/seed oil, and Linoleic acid avoidance. This cured my sleep apnea. I still obstruct but can breathe through my nose. My sleep quality improved significantly. For 7 years now I've had zero bipolar, and zero depression, all without meds, or any concerns at all. This also nearly eliminated my allergies. After 2 knee surgeries, bone on bone, it cured my arthritis. It cured my chronic pain for which I'd started opiates just to take the edge off. And about 4 or 5 years into it, it cured my *Asthma* which I had for my entire life. Now I do eat more carbs, I call my diet "lowish carb". I noticed in could increase consumption with my improved metabolic function, but I still avoid vegetable and seed oils and linoleic acid.

Thanks! Dr. Berry, I'm 68 and I've dieted most of my life. Years ago I had some success with the Adkins diet, but also had the weird cravings that accompany it. I found your channel last month and began the carnivore diet(I was already on a very low carb regimen but cheating). I suffered from GERD, IBS, insulin resistance and high blood pressure. Needless to say I have already noticed a marked improvement in my symptoms, although I'll find out about my blood sugar A1C in a few weeks in a scheduled a bi-annual checkup. I've also lost 10 pounds so far. I devour your videos here on KZitem and I'm seriously looking forward to my new healthy life!

I’ve been carnivore for 6 weeks and have felt horrible these past few days. Previously I had only minor improvements prior which have mostly stopped. My depression is as bad as ever, my energy non existent and an upset stomach. I’ve done high fat, supplemental mineral/electrolytes. I read about all these people feeling better and am so tired of trying to get well my entire life. This was so hopeful (my only hope)😢 It’s scary never getting relief. I’m 59 and can honestly say I’ve never found relief /healing. I’ve wanted to die for 9 years and other times in my youth. After not being taken seriously and constant misdiagnosis throughout my life , I finally found hope with carnivore. But find myself losing hope… I will continue because there’s nothing else as promising. I’m tired of living solely on will power. I know I have metabolic syndrome, hypothyroidism etc… could my thyroid problems which I self treat with raw dessicated thyroid delaying and positive changes? I feel cursed😕Anyone relate or have advice? I am cutting out the cream in my diet to see if that helps-essentially I’ll be doing the lion diet. Thanks for reading.

So sorry to hear all that, and to some extent I can identify. I'm not terribly sick, but on the other hand I don't get the amazing quick results that many people get. Just to keep my comment short, because otherwise I'll run on and on, can I recommend that you look up Dr Pompa? I have watched some of his videos over the years and he agrees with all the good stuff we already know, but also delves into various root causes and things like heavy metals, dental issues, and so on. I've learned a lot about these and I have worked on my own with some degree of success, but I think what holds me back is the amount of toxicity my body is still dealing with after having mercury in my mouth for 25 years. Also, some of us have unique genetics that make it very hard to detoxify. What takes someone else a few months or years might take us much longer, so we don't get the quick results. Please don't give up! Keep doing the right things and keep learning. Keep watching Dr. Berry but add some Dr Pompa. I think you'll find a few keys. There are other doctors who go into the genetic stuff and some of them are great, but it can be overwhelming. Definitely be careful about the B vitamins you take, and some people have problems with sulfur, which pops up in surprising places. It's generally healthy but some with a particular genetic variation can't handle it at all! Dr. Ben Lynch is quite good on all those topics. I pray you will keep finding the way forward! Stay positive and hopeful. 🙂

@@carnation_cat Wow! I am SO thankful for coming across your comment! I'm leaning towards the Mercury toxicity as the main culprit of my health issues (including not being able to lose any weight even after a month of cutting out ALL of the trigger foods). All of my blood work is very good for my age (60) but my Mercury levels showed dangerously high...from a mouth full of amalgam fillings for about 50 years. My Dr. strongly recommended that I have them removed ASAP, which I did a few months ago. Haven't been back for bloodwork yet to see where my levels are but I still feel like crap in so many ways. I am going to look into Dr. Pomps's information TODAY to see if I can find any of those keys...or a suggestion for an aggressive heavy metal detox!!! Thank you again for posting the information!!! Blessings for your Wellbeing! :D

That is heartbreaking to here. I admire your willpower, that is impressive stuff. I would say, if I can give my oppinion, that you need to compliment your diet with plenty of work that makes you motivated. My father started this diet with very similar symptoms to yours and wasn't getting better at first bar some weight loss from water weight. But he started working more in the fox pen and started having the energy to hunt again and now he has weened himself off lots of his medicine and continued to improve. If you are currently taking any medicine I would smresearch what you think you can drop. My Dad would stop taking a medicine for several weeks unless he felt off. After the doctor gave him the YOU LOOK GOOD he would then tell him what he stopped taking. And the doctor couldn't lie about the results so he is taking less than half the mess now.

I find it kind of irresponsible of you to advise people they shouldn’t be taking their meds. Often meds don’t work because people aren’t actually taking them at the dosage and at the time prescribed, and they don’t stay on them long enough for them to work.

You can never just stop an antidepressant, that’s what Cymbalta is, you have to tapper off SLOWLY, please do not just stop cold turkey. Go to your doctor to get off any antidepressant and hope he knows how to tapper you off, but make sure you don’t have depression anymore, if your still depressed don’t go off your medication. Talk to your doctor about this. All antidepressants are hard to get off of. I’m in the same position, I’m haveing awful side effects on mine, constipation, and feels like dose is to high also, and terrified to try and get off , my ant anxiety med after I’ve been told it’s hard to get off of, and told it’s addicting I’ve been taking it for years at a low dose, and told I shouldn’t of been taking it this long, now I’m really scared, about the discontinues withdrawals. My doctor who now is retired put me on this crap and never told me all this. I am very upset about this.

The brain zaps is withdrawl. Or the better way to discribe it is discontinuation syndrome, Ive been researching online about antidepressant discontinuation syndrome, but a lot of people call it withdrawl, I’m really nervous about tappering to a lower dose of my medication, tried once before and I was so emotional it scared me, I went to the old dose, and live with the side effects which are difficult.

My granddaughter has a sensitivity to corn and corn products. She gets depressed. But we may have found another food item she is having issues with. Wheat. She says she hears voices in her head and her mother and I didn't know what to make of this. She was sent to a doctor who did tests on her and didn't find anything to show there was a problem. Then one week of drinking coffee with creamer which has corn syrup in it she was becoming quiet and then burst out crying and yelling for nothing. Scared us to see her act this way. We still didn't connect the dots yet. Then a night of eating a bowl of spaghetti she ran away from home with the family truck (she doesn't have a licence to drive) and drove all around the city until about 36 hours later the police caught up with her. I was trying the carnivore diet and asked her if she wanted to do it with me. She said yes, then after only a week or so she told her mom she no longer hears the voices. If this isn't proof that diet is important to many health issues we have today I don't know what is.

She's sharing my food and gets the grease. She eats half of the garbage dogfood they sell. Never seen her calmer and she acts like a pup!! Thank you so much Dr. Berry and God!!!

Whole food keto. Whole food plant based. Both have shown improvement in mental health issues. Find an eating strategy that works for you as long as it is whole food. Go outside. Walk. I'm not well but I have been better following that. The VA loves giving pills so I'm doing that still. But the side effects of doing the pills is sometimes way worse than just taking them. Pick your battles as long as it is for you and win.

Twelve days into the carnivore diet, I felt literal, genuine, joy, energy, excitement, and hopefulness. I actually WANTED to leave the house and FELT like doing something fun-a feeling I had not felt in over ten years! If you are struggling mentally, emotionally, with fatigue, depression, extreme pms mood lows, lack of energy/motivation, compulsive binge eating, anxiety/inability to focus/make progress in life, weight gain, or bloating, PLEASE try the carnivore diet. 🙏💖

@@hasinapatel1233 I eat a mixture of grocery store meat and meat we order in large quantities from local farms. We keep a separate deep freezer in our garage to store the orders. I also eat a lot of eggs and sometimes cheese. I wish you the best in your efforts toward health!

Reducing masturbation also helps with your energy levels and raises you mood. Both of those effects fight off depression.

We can point out that depression and anxiety rose with the introduction of ultra processed foods in the standard diet, and with these Keto depression studies it proves that this is the case as the removal of those foods reduced the use of SRIs by 64%.

Sugar/carbs definitely kept me in a cycle of mood swings. Much more stable with a meat heavy diet. And what’s really surprising for me is how “happy” I feel when I add a lot of fat….

As a retired MH therapist, I worked with many who were depressed. Only about 10 percent are 'clinically depressed' (depressed for no good reason); about 90 percent suffered from 'situational depression', usually fueled by problematic relationships, including relationship with self. SSRIs/SNRIs alleviate, to an extent, both types of depression, and usually enable the sufferer to engage in more meaningful talk therapy. To believe that all depression is clinical is to overlook the importance of relationships in our lives. Then too, if situational depression persists long enough, it can also become, at least partially, clinical.

Depression in America stems from Feminism. It has ruined our culture and society. We have to prop up unqualified broads to the same amount of pay as someone who works 50% more than them. we have ruined the cost of living so whamen can feel like men. And before you say some stupid BS to me WOMEN, look around the world. You are trying to reinvent the wheel, bozos. REALITY CHECK: you are a home care taker SORRY!

You are sidestepping the logical hypothesis which is that on a correct diet, life situations can be handled without the worst symptoms of severe depression.

When you research these medications on pubmed they contribute to nutritional deficiencies and hormone imbalances that exacerbate depression and anxiety. Prozac affects the thyroid by blocking iodine absorption. Many others contribute to B vitamin deficiencies. Just look it up.

Short term situational depression has happened with almost everyone. Its inevitable. In the past we had big families and friends to help get us out of the blues but fast paced modern city life has isolated humans

that's exactly what i'd expect a retired MH therapist to say, imagine that those "situations" that caused depression in some people didn't in others, why do you think that is? maybe a perfectly physically healthy person isn't effected by "situations" the same as an unhealthy person, i understand it's hard to except that something you've known all your life might be wrong and that a simple dietary change could make your profession borderline obsolete, that your whole life's work may have been in vain, reality isn't always convenient, but you must always be open to it

My brain has changed in ways that shock me . . . I didn't realize that the way I was feeling and functioning could be improved so much. I didn't see a problem then, now I see that I was in some major fog and disfunction.

I believe you are correct. I have been following Victoria's Keto Kitchen for Keto recipes. She was suffering more than over 200 seizures and has reduced it to less than 30 (so far) by staying on Ketogenic diet. Her brain is becoming healed by being on that diet. When she went off and ate poorly she suffered a grand mal seizure. At times I wonder if carnivore diet would help more, but I just haven't been able to commit myself to doing it. Thank you for all the information you give. Bless you Dr. Berry.
