All those D&D stories left unfinished as friendships fade and years drag on, all those books never written, stories never told, cancelled games left unreleased and incomplete, songs that an artist never sung, all those dreams and ambitions that never saw their beginnings... or died before they could get off the ground for anyone to see.... Where do they go? Where do they end up? Can they ever be found again? Can they be uncovered? Would life be different today had they lasted? Inspired the right people? Touched the right minds? What was not found today.... from what has been lost in the past?

@Borys The best and most complete song I ever did is on my channel. It may not be exactly dungeon style, but I definitely started with medieval soundscapes. I'm not sure how to classify my song "Remedy", as I named it. Maybe it's more like soundtrack / film score. It was an evolution of my physical ability on the keys. Initially, I was a guitar player in the genre of viking/folk metal - most inspired by Mithotyn. I have full ~5 minute melodic metal songs of just guitar with lots of keyboard, kind of epic and bombastic. But those are not on KZitem. Remedy: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1Yyw06ueiqtlhG0 Edit: I uploaded it 11 years ago, but it was private. When I switched to public, it took that date. Actually did most of my serious playing back in 2006.

Diff'rent mindsets, and she came on one of mine so I'm interested in trying her style. We're planning to hike part of the Carpathians in a coule of years' time. She's got Land's End to John O'Groats on her "bucket list", but I'm not sure if I'd want to do that or not. Regardless, if we're ever in Sweden we'll be sure to try the King's Trail out as it look p nice. Any tips?

There should be fewer mosquitos and fewer fellow travellers. If you start in the north at Abisko, you can choose whether to break off the main trial after a few days, or carry on to Sarek National Park. I chose that route because there are even fewer people about, and that's what I was aiming for. I only did 110km of the route, so I can't speak to the other 330km, but it's lovely. Really great.

2 ай бұрын
@@CJG2006 Wel to start things off, if you haven't, read Tolkiens stuff, so The Hobbit, LotR and Silmarillion, a classic. Also not too much to read in comparsion to others. I read through Wheel of Time, that is a big one and not bad, though imho not great all around. Still nice, people seem to really like it and you won't run out of books that quickly, you just have to put in the time. Also avoid the Amazon series WoT at all costs! Game of Thrones started off great, then got worse and finally stopped at all, so idk about that one. Might still be worth it; if you watched the show and liked it, you'll like that one too. My personal favorite so far would be the original Witcher books (look up in which order to read, it can be confusing but it's important, start with 'The Last Wish'). I played the games before, didn't watch the show, but I know it's better than both. The world, the people, the writing (I read it in german so idk about the english translation), the story, the humor, the detail... I loved it. The first two (or three, depends on the order) books are collections of short stories, which is not only an awesome way to introduce the reader to the world, but also great to get a feel for the overall vibe. TLDR: Tolkien if you haven't already. Other than that: Witcher. You won't regret it.

Sometimes suffering in emotional ways like that can lead people to want to vent their sorrow, depression and thoughts in whatever means they can. Whether that be music, writing, paintings, or even just words. People who have also felt these ways can appreciate these emotional outlets too and often find them full of emotion and beauty, especially the more subtle or neesh topics are, it also helps bring comfort in knowing that you are not alone.

This is what I imagined when searching 'Dungeon Synth'... Distant, wispy atmospheres; long songs; grainy, time-worn artwork. Perfect.

I close my eyes. I'm trudging through knee deep snow along the edge of a dark forest. I am lightly armored, with no more than a cloak and a small fire I manage to channel with my limited arcane knowledge keeping me warm. Not a sound to be heard save the crunch of snow beneath each foot fall. I stop. Taking a moment to catch my breath after endless hours of travel. Just in time, I hear a faint creaking of wood. I turn back just in time to see a goblin's arrow loose towards me. I raise my shield up just in time. Peering over my shield, I now notice the horde coming out from the trees behind the goblin archer. With little time to think, I hurl a small bolt of fire toward the archer, hoping for the best. Without waiting to see if the fire struck, I turn and flee away from the forest. In the distance, I notice a small structure. A cottage. Abandoned? No smoke from the chimney, must be. I hear the snarls and crunch of snow behind me. Another arrow flies just past me. Did I miss the archer or are there others. I didn't notice before. I make it to the cottage, run around to the opposite side. The door, knocked off its hinges, lies on the floor, a large hole smashed into it. I hold the door where it should go and cast a simple mending spell on it. It seems to hold well enough. I begin stacking the ruined furniture in front. Conjuring a small flame, I begin looking for anything that might help fend off the goblins. A hunting bow and quiver with a few arrows leans against a nearby wall. Old, dry paper and wood scattered everywhere. I pick it up and begin lining the walls with it and scattering the rest throughout. I can hear the horde gathering around the hut. They don't seem to be attempting to enter. Probably toying with their meat. There are more bodies out there than I have arrows and while I may be good enough with both blade and spell to get by, there's no doubt that this horde will be my end. If today I die, let it not be said I didn't fight til my last breath. I knock an arrow, crack open a window. I see them, just barely as the sun goes down. Little more than silhouettes. Some have torches now. They're all snarling, some banging weapon on shield. Without doubt, trying to instill a little fear into their meat. I'm not so proud as to deny that it's working. Having extinguished my flame, hoping they don't see me, I take aim at one with a torch, who I can see more clearly than the others. No reaction. They can't see me. No point in delaying the inevitable. I loose the arrow. It strikes right in the neck. With a gurgle, the goblin torch bearer falls. The goblins let out a synchronized scream. In grief? Not likely. Anger, hate. They run toward the cottage and begin banging hammers and axes against the windows and walls. It doesn't take much with this old place. They begin getting through. As fast as I can, I knock and loose arrow after arrow until the few I had are spent. They begin climbing through the first breach. I cut them down as they enter, but more are breaking through. Goblins begin to pour in around me, I make my peace with whichever God will care to hear and begin hurling little fire orbs about the place. Quickly catching the old paper and wood on fire. Spreading even quicker. The goblins let out a squeal. Only that briefest victory before an arrow plunges into my chest. Barely having time to react to the pain from that, a dagger catches my gut, then an axe in my shoulder. I collapse. The world around me darkening despite the fire growing wilder. The last thing I hear are screams of the few goblins I hope to have slain by the fire as the darkness takes me entirely. No proper burial for me. The remaining goblins will drag my corpse off to feast upon. The rest of the world will go on as though nothing happened. My death, just as my life, meaning little, if anything at all.

At dawn, you find yourself at the farthest edge of the castle ruins, where centuries-old stone lay in a crumbled pile of what used to be the north tower. As the sun's rays penetrate the treeline in the distance, through that old pineforest you'd had to trek through for two weeks in order to get here, all alone on your journey, where it was said that no man had trespassed for more than eight hundred years, you hear footsteps. You turn to face your master, the great troll himself, the only such being to humor the presence of humans -- and even then, only a select, lucky few at that. You shiver against the crisp autumn air, but he does not, seemingly unaffected by the elements. What the troll carries in his hands, then promptly sets down onto the old, weathered stone of the tower's remnants, is not the tome from yesterday -- no, this time, it's a synthesizer. You look up from the electronic device at your master, puzzled. He utters only two words in response to your expression: "Let's begin."

I don't know about goofy internet categories like "dungeon synth" but in the late 90s local record stores (you all will just have to imagine what those were, not even an embedded Starbucks in them) were FULL of this kind of stuff, homemade synth experiments of every kind. One didn't buy them much because it was like where do I even start. I had a CD called SLAP, don't know where it went. And then of course you go home and your brother plays you just the same kind of thing that he just made... Myspace was a place to try to preserve that diversity for a while too

First sorry for the bad english, i'm from spain so it's not my native lenguage. So i'm fealing really bad lately, lonely, sad and pretty depressed. I've been failing university and i'm practically alone because all my college friend graduate before me. The only thing that keeps me "happy" is prepearing a DnD campaing. It's pretty much inspire by classic dungeon crawlers and of course this will be the soundtrack to it. Hopefully this will make me keep in touch with my old Friends!

I don't think I can put into word the kind of emotions I felt listening to Forest of Eternity for the first time. People talk all the time about movies and games they wish they could forget and experience for the first time again but I rarely hear that said about music. Well I sure as hell wish I could feel what I felt back then again.

Perfect for writing depressive dark fantasy. "North Harbor was black. It might have looked like this from a distance, just the shadow of buildings and towers in a cloud of gray smoke. But all the buildings and towers that remained of the city had black burnt bricks and black burnt skeletons. Every stone, roof, wall, and paving slab of what had once been a street, everything was black and shrunken and dead. There was not a single man; Hald spotted no one. Descending from the mountains, they came across a row of fallen mast-trees, cracked by the heat, blood-red resin congealed on the split, lying trunks. The furrowed ground moved as Hald and Dren walked over it, towards the dead city".
