A couple of videos back I asked about my dry under eyes, she mentioned my question in a video :-) I was using "medical grade" products but I still had horrible dryness causing my makeup to make me look older. Thanks to Dr.Dray's advice I am now seeing a huge difference on my skin. I am literally using only the products that's she recommends. Not using a ridiculously expensive eye cream anymore. Instead I am using the Neutrogena moisture boost along with the sunblock from the same brand or the cerave. I was already using Differin, this is how I found this channel- I was researching how to start using this product as I only used Retin A in the past but was to harsh (regardless of strength). I am extremely happy with my skin now. I totally agree with her advise, less is more. After years of dermatologist and advise from med spa's I am now content. I am a makeup addict and I notice that application is much easier especially for my under eyes. Thanks for the advise! I am so happy I found this channel- I am hooked! Brenali

I don't mind my oily skin anymore. I've learned to handle it and embrace it. I'm in my 50s and am wrinkle free except for some fine lines under my eyes because the skin is a bit drier there. I can't stop my oily skin nor do I wish to. It's my natural moisturizer and I actually consider it a blessing. I blot with tissues and use very fine lightweight powder when needed. And I use Frownies to keep in-between my brows and forehead smooth. They have been a blessing for me. Frownies are cheaper than botox👍

Thank you for the video. I'm almost 30 years old and have battled very enlarged pores basically all over my face since I was a teen. I'm so self conscious about it, I've suffered with anxiety because of it. I have a career that involves direct face to face contact with numerous people daily. I always worry if all they notice about me is my skin. The worst is when I've had complete strangers comment about my large pores. I would spend my last penny if there was a sure fire way to get smooth even skin. I would have the self confidence I've always dreamed of! I feel like I've tried everything 😞

I always think that people (cashiers at the store, etc) are always looking at me oddly and I feel like they are definitely wondering what is up with my skin. I have had painful anxiety since these things decided to crop up on my face about 4 years ago, and I don't even like to go places anymore because I don't want people to see me. I used to be social, now I'm just a hermit. :(

The only thing that has worked for me is temporarily camoflaging them with a thick silicone-based primer. For me it works best by gently smoothing a layer over the pores, not rubbing it in. If I rub the primer in it tends to disrupt the smoothing effect silicones can have. It's not perfect but it's the only thing that has worked to a degree. Benefit porefessional is slightly tinted, so for those with light to medium skin tones it might be an option. It is unpleasantly scented unfortunately. Most can be gently patted over foundation, which is important to note because I have found that applying foundation often disrupts the camoflaging effect when the primer is applied as the first step in the makeup routine.

I've noticed that my pores seem smaller and my face less oily after using Retin A Micro and the Finacea as well . I also use Vivant Mandelic Acid 3 in 1 Serum 8% . It makes my blackheads slowly work their way out of my pores . Some mornings , I actually wake up to small blackheads laying on my face where they've worked their way out on their own . Thanks for all the info, Dr. Dray! I used to do k-beauty 7 step skincare. Suffice to say, my skin became more irritated, until I took out one step after the other. Figuring out which one works for me, on which days. I mostly just do daily wash and moisturize, and spf in AM. But also, I chilled out on skincare steps when I saw photos of celebrities my partner works on. He's a photo retoucher. They sure take out a lot of pores and smoothen out everything as suggested by photographers and companies.

I have acne prone skin since 19, gradually, my skin texture gets rough with visible pores. Some of the pore are actually look like a mini hole. After trying so many medication and skin care products, nothing actually help minimized my pore. Now I am 29, 9 years of battling with acne, I finally choose laser to clear my skin. And this time it really works, my dermatologist use Ultra Pulse Laser and Pico laser at the same time to treat my acne scar and fine lines. Now i am still in the recovering phrase, but I can feel my skin becoming smoother and tighter. I think laser is super effective, but it hurts.

Dr.Dray I really appreciate hearing your comments on at home Derma Roller devices. So many were stating they really assist with the collagen production so I am researching the pros and cons. For me my main focus for keeping my skin looking young will be maintaining collagen production. It's seems to me that alcohol should clean the tool very effectively but where someone is prone to infections healing slowly this may not be safe and too much as a risk. For sure, It's a risk if they develop any scar tissue due to an infection caused by the roller. Those hand held light wands seem like a painless option to boost collagen production. This would certainly offer improvements to skin texture and is less invasive but gets into the dermis.

Thanks for this video. This is one of my main skin concerns (the other is aging). In the past I worked rigorously to remove the gunk from my pores, primarily on my nose, using physical means. In other words, squeezing with fingers and tools (yes, I used one of those scary extractors). It did nothing to end the problem - the body reacted to the removal by producing even more. And what's worse is that the pores got even larger due to the physical abuse. I am still bothered by the gunk (?sebum) that collects in my pores but now only use chemical means to handle it - benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. As well as a retinoid. And this seems to have cut down on the production of the gunk more than anything else. Have a great weekend, Dr. Dray!

I know I've said it before but Paula's Choice 10% Niacinamide booster has made a tremendous difference in the size of my pores. They're still there but so much smaller. It's also helped lighten discoloration. I mix in a few drops with my Neutrogena Hydro Boost. It is a little pricey but I buy it when they have sales and it lasts me five months. It is too strong for some people and some say it didn't help. They offer a generous 60 day money back guarantee and it only took me a week to notice a big difference. I've been using it since August of last year and it continues to impress me. Sorry so long but I thought the information might help someone else:-). Great information Dr Dray!!!

I have had to give spironolactone and birth control a rest for the time being due to developing chronic telogen effluvium (my dermatologist thinks I have an unusual sensitivity to them). I have it all - oily, acne prone skin in the past, and now sun damaged, aging skin. Paula's Choice 2% BHA seems to help. I haven't noticed the tretinoin making a difference, and I've used .05% for about a year now. What works best for me is a matte powder, which temporarily makes them look smaller. But a friend complemented my skin, and I said but look at my pores! I had to get close to her so she could see what I was talking about. So, I don't think people notice them unless they get right in my face, and I don't stand that close to anyone, lol. Thanks for all the helpful info!

Thanks for sharing this Ms Sherry! Is it the PC 2% salicylic acid (the one you mention here) the one you found to be fragrance free? I see she has a pore refining liquid version, a "skin perfecting" liquid formula, as well as a gel formula. Great that there is no fragrance! I think it is odd, however, how some of the products are labeled 2% BHA and some labeled 2% salicylic acid (BHA is salicylic acid)??
@sherryg1838
7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's all salicylic acid. I thought they were all labeled BHA, but I haven't checked. Yes, all of their products are fragrance free. Okay, I see what they have done. Their Clear line is marketed for acne, and those three products are labeled salicylic acid. I think the other BHA's (salicylic acids) are considered exfoliation. They market AHA's for dry skin and BHA's for oily skin. I've used the 2% Gel and the 2% Liquid BHA's. I bought the Clear 2% Salicylic Acid for my daughter, which has more anti-irritants in it. The Resist Line is their anti-aging line. I've tried a sample of the Resist Pore Refining BHA, and I liked it. Although, I couldn't tell it made my pores any smaller than the regular BHA. The nice thing is that you can get samples for $1-$2 with free shipping. Now that I'm using Retin A, I don't really need the BHA for breakouts. But I like to use it a couple of times a week, as it seems to make my skin a little smoother, and my pores a little smaller. OTH, since I'm only using the BHA once or twice a week, perhaps the Retin A also helps minimize my pores. They just aren't any smaller than they were previously while using the BHA.

Wondering for Q+A this week (unless I've missed the answers to these): I don't wear makeup but I do wear that Aveeno moisturizer with SPF. 2 questions I guess: first, do I need to wash my face twice a day? (Normally I wash it in the shower before I put on moisturizer or sunscreen, and occasionally I'll use a wipe at night.) Am I leaving anything icky on my skin if I don't wash the sunscreen off? And second, what's a good sunscreen to layer over the Aveeno? I kind of want to try a mineral sunscreen but I don't want to look like a ghost.

Thank you so much!! No they are not the same thing. Micro dermabrasion involves removing some of the very top layers of the skin in a controlled manner, wherase microneedling involves putting tiny puncture wounds into the skin, which serve as spaces to allow new healthy skin to regenerate

PC is pretty good...fairly affordable. I am confused as to why some of the product are labeled "BHA" whereas other are labeled "salicylic acid." This is a bit misleading, in my opinion in that BHA is salicylic acid.

I am 62 and have bad acne scarring and had really congested skin. I started using Paula's Choice about three years ago and I am so happy with it. My pores now clean look so much smaller. @@saturn6912 hi Games. I have used the products and had an enormous improvement in my skin. My scars are still there. The red marks are gone and my pores are smaller and my skin looks smooth now. I had the coarsened texture. I have all the other acne scars though they don't look as bad. I need a really good procedural dermatologist for those. They are hard to find. If you look at Dr David Lim on KZitem and Insta he is very good and may know of someone like him where you live. I am in Ireland.

@@saturn6912 I should have said as you asked I used the basic Resist range for oily/combination skin. Huge improvement. I then purchased the 4% BHA and I still use it. I then added the retinol booster. I use sunscreen all the time now, a physical one. I found it difficult to get used to but worth it. It's like a blanket on your skin in winter.

Wow, this was so informative. Seriously, I've concluded that SPF and antioxidants are the solution to so many skin concerns. Also question! I started Differin a couple weeks ago and because I've done a lot of things to my face (namely TCA, glycolic, salicylic, and Jessner peals and using a retinol) I felt comfortable doing the Differin every night. Well I only have a teeny tinyyyy bit of irritation, will this slight irritation make my skin worse? Or will it subside and I'll get used to it? So far my results have been amazing.... Haven't had as many breakouts, my cystic ones go away within days, but I still have slight irritation. I don't know if I should scale back or kept going...

Hi Dr Drey! I am going on a cruise in early April and I use Tretinoin 0.5%. Although I do wear SPF 50 correctly every single day, it will be very hot and sunny in the Bahamas, so I will be sweating and getting lots of sun. I have a wide brimmed hat, glasses, etc. My question is: should I STOP using the Tretinoin before the cruise? And, what's a good sweat and water-resistant sunscreen for the face that you could recommend? I have worked very hard to get my melasma under control, and I don't want it to come back! P.S. LOVE your channel! Xoxo

Thank you for sharing such helpful information on skincare. I wish I lived near you- I would love to have you as my dermatologist! I have seen a lot of people talking about the Vital Peptides (collagen), and many say it helps elasticity and plumping of the skin from within, and they feel their skin is more radiant. Do you have any thoughts on taking collagen supplements? Thanks so much.
@DrDrayzday
7 жыл бұрын
Collagen supplements and peptide serums are all hand waving with no data to demonstrate efficacy and/or utility. The consistent factor with all of the serums is that they tend to contain ingredients that are common to basic moisturizers..so people are moisturizing consistently (because they just plunked down a big chunk of change on something and are using it)..but whether or not any of the supposed ingredients are worthwhile or active is suspect. Ingesting collagen makes no sense, period, and again...not much data to support this claim

@DrDrayzday

there are actually some small studies on niacinamide for pores, however they were largely inconclusive as this is a very difficult objective measurement; there are possible risks associated with isotretinoin (accutane), as with any systemic medication, which your physician can review with you. This is a good source of information as well: www.dermnetnz.org/topics/isotretinoin

clindamycin can be combined with adapalene but is antibiotic...so there is a risk of antibacterial resistance. To lower this risk, it is usually advised to use in combination with benzoyl peroxide; it is used for inflammatory acne lesions...not hyperpigmentation
@adrianw.8700

Thanks for your reply. I read Ziana is a combo of Tretinoin and Clindamycin and is FDA approved and demonstrated to be more effective than either ingredient alone. That's why I thought of using them together since I have clindamycin at hand.
@DrDrayzday
7 жыл бұрын
Derrick Wang yes, for inflammatory lesions of acne, if you add clindamycin to tretinoin the resolutions of inflammatory (red) acne lesions will be faster because of the anti inflammatory properties of clinda. BeNzoyl peroxide would be ideal...but unlike adapalene inactivates tretinoin, however does not inactivate adapalene...hence epiduo

Most of my acnes are inflammatory ones. That's why I thought about using topical antibiotics. In fact, clindamyclin is what a Chinese dermatologist prescribed for me during my trip back home knowing that adapalene had controlled my breakouts. Apparently she thought it was a good addition. TBH, I didn't quite care for her opinion as much as I do for yours. Unfortunately, we don't have doctors as kind and professional as you around the world, otherwise, many more patients will be much happier :) Thanks for the clarification and everything you did for us out of your kindness. Hello dr dray.. I recently started watching your videos and must say they are very informative. However, I have been really confused of which cleanser/ moisturiser to use. I currently use the cetaphil cleanser ( do know taht it contains parabens ₹and a Mac charged water moisturiser topped with the cerave sunscreen ( follow the same at night minus the sunscreen). I really wanted to follow a simple but proper skin care regime for my combination skin.( have acne scars as I suffered from lot of acne during my teens) and quite sensitive skin( gets easily irritated and break out on forehead and jaw areas) . Will the cerave hydrating cleanser > neutrogena hydro boost> cerave facial moisturising lotion ( am/pm) > cerave sunscreen be a suitable one ? Minus the sunscreen at night be soemthing suitable to follow. Apologies for such a long question 😊
