Jeremiah DERMOT Murphy was a farmer, a character and a folk performer extraordinaire. I first encountered him in the early seventies, when bored with the ubiquitous guitar, he was learning to play the piano accordion and we quickly became good mates. He became a brilliant accordionist, but he was also equally at home with melodeon, concertina, banjo, tin whistle, fiddle and bones. But that was the least of it - he was also a fine SINGER. Dermot's roots were in County Cork, but he was every bit as much a Yorkshire hill farmer, who had dogs, cats, sheep, goats, pigs, geese and a European eagle owl in his barn! He frequently hosted superb folk singing gatherings, especially on Guy Fawkes night. In the end, sadly, he was forced to sell up the farm and moved to Lincolnshire, where I lost touch with him. He died, sadly, at the end of 2021. I searched through my image and music archive, and cobbled up this video to his memory. Farewell buddy, we'll not see your like again!
