Great film thanks I’ve just been filming kestrels in the nest on my channel

Are you allowed to photograph the barn owl in the nest? I thought that a licence was required for that. Happy to be wrong of course
@MikeLaneFRPS

You need a licence to willfully disturb at the nest while photographing. In a busy farmyard full of people and vechicles and along way outside of the barn this would not be an issue.

I would love to see Owls myself having not spotted one till date. Hear them in the night. This video was very nice. And good to learn about the flicker issue with LED lights.

Interesting reflection - "in the days when I used to be able to make a living out of bird photography" . There still seems to be some professionals able to make money out of it but most have given up. Are you still able to sell the occasional picture and if so who to? I'm sure theres many an amateur that occasionally takes a ripper of a photo and wonder if they to can sell a few of their own images.

I sell more pictures than ever but the average sale rate is too low to make a living. ⁷

Is the flicker setting useful in combatting the flicker?

My knowledge of video is limited and it is the first time I have had this issue, but I think the answer is just a slower shutter speed.

Thanks for the wonderful video. I found it fascinating to see the mobile trailer setup as well as the LED lights. Also, I live in Washington state in the US and it was interesting to see that the kestrels and barn owls look just like those we have here. Often the UK birds are different but these look very nearly the same if not identical.

Hi Mike I agree the C settings are great for different situation . You can also set a button to instantly recall a c setting I have one set for pro capture so i dont have to turn a dial just press for procap and press again to go back to normal settings. Excellent video.

Nice photos. If I have to pick one, it would be the Barn Owl @4:50. I have been using the C1/2/3/4 ever since they were introduced in the E-M1.2 (there were only three by then). One is for static subjects, one is for normal BIF situations, one is for high-paced action (taking advantage of SH2) and one is for Pro Capture and SH2. All use Auto-ISO with a shutter speed threshold that matches the requirements for the kind of subject and situation.

I could not use modern cameras without the C1 to C4 options. Too complicated without.
