Desert Botanical Garden - a Phoenix Point of Pride - is a 140-acre urban garden founded by the Arizona Cactus and Native Flora Society in 1937 which houses more than 50,000 plants, one-third of which are native to Arizona, including 379 endangered species. The Desert Botanical Garden is home to more than 4,000 rare agave plants and 14,000 cacti. The collection focuses on a wide breadth of taxa adapted to desert conditions from Arizona, Australia, Baja California, and South America. Many unique ecosystems are represented, like mesquite bosque, semidesert grassland, and upland chaparral. Desert Botanical Garden offers specialized tours, workshops and lectures on desert landscaping and horticulture, nature art and photography, health and wellness. Since 1978, the gardens hosted Spring and Fall open-air acoustic concert series, art exhibitions, and Las Noches de las Luminarias. The Luminarias Festival is a Phoenix holiday tradition featuring live music by the flickering lights of more than 8000 luminaria. Desert Botanical Garden is an incredible place truly unlike any other - it's absolutely worth a visit!
