@Carambabambasamba
6 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with Pegasus Puckett. Peggy's version is haunting and the frenzied aspect of it, with the drums going crazy, stays true to the original spirit of the lyrics. Desi's version is pleasant and simple, but, if you have grown with traditional Spanish music, what you hear here is very run of the mill in its approach. Also, the "explanation" that he gives at the beginning is a made-up story, probably scripted by the TV show's writers, who might have been worried about how the TV audience would have reacted if they knew that this is essentially a spell (not of "Christian" origin).

I did not know he could play spanish guitar (where have I been?). I only knew of his music from the old "I Love Lucy" shows and never thought he sang well at all, in fact, he was flat and sometimes off key. He does this beautifully with feeling. Best I've ever seen of him. He still can't hit high notes. I think on the old show, he was portraying a remnant of what his musical days were before the show. He would play bongos and try to hit high, long notes but they were awful. I enjoy their old movie "The Long, Long Trailer" partly because I grew up in almost the exact same "New Moon" yellow and silver trailer. The one in movie was 40' long but ours was 46' long with extra bedroom in middle. The back br in our trailer did not have the curve to it like does there's. Of course, it had a full and their's has twin beds because of times. He sings a bit and sounds terrible when he tries to go loud and high. I'm embarrassed for him. It's a great movie full of laughs if anyone loves old movies. Of course, it's in color (only way to see Lucy). I have heard it said that Lucy was Technicolor's dream because of her hair, gorgeous blue eyes and makeup coloring. Tis true. I urge young and old, for a good laugh to rent or find this to watch. Hilarious and not campy like their tv show.

Pegasus Puckett yes actually did more research now. I herd this song in comercial and looked it up cause it sounded familiar like simbi loa. It is actually similó. This again is another Haitian Vodou spirit that belongs to the petro/petwo rites. Similó is still of the simbi and boumba family of spirits of the Kongo. So yes this song is referring to Haitian loa similó.
