The coating that protects dip nibs from rusting in transit is simply oil. You can just wash it off with soap and water. No need to suck on it or waste a potato. You can also swab it (just the nib!) with rubbing alcohol.

I bought this pen a couple years ago and it’s simply wonderful. Bear in mind that the nib may be adjusted up or down on the feed to control the ink flow and thus avoid railroading. It does need to be cleaned often to avoid nib corrosion, and it’s easy to do. The name is an homage to the wallet carried by Samuel L Jackson’s character in Pulp Fiction. Pierre is a master craftsman and I would’ve happily paid doubly for this pen. When using a nib in good condition (one may also opt for the titanium version of the G nibs that greatly prolong nib life), using a light touch for the hairlines -except when flexing of course the pen is just wonderful. I enjoy using dip nibs, too, but this allows continuous use without fiddling with an ink pot. If you’re so prudish as to be put off by the name then get thee to a nunnery and write with a quill from a bad motherfucking bird. To BAMF or not to BAMF, that is the question...

A very interesting and well-designed pen. Kudos to Pierre for manufacturing so much in house. And I had wondered if it were possible to create a feed that would work for dip nibs. Excellent!

I like to fucks around with pens & experiment with different combinations. I have a Ahab set up with a Zebra-G - which was immediately functional (ie. it worked just by swapping the nib), but with a bit of tinkering & adjusting, I’m gradually getting it to perform better & better.

I agree entirely that Pierre's workmanship is great and the thought put into his pen designs special. I got myself one of his Soubriquet Cocobolo pens. The wood fascinated me and it was not a disappointment. His work with the wood is astonishingly good and I've grown to really love this pen. I've fitted it with a gold nib with a fine/stub grind and am very happy with it. The price on the BAMF is great and I'd certainly get one if it was available. Thanks for the review and your appreciation of Pierre's work was palpable. As to the nibs performance, I do recall your not too recent review of a MontBlanc with a flex nib and that nibs performance was seriously impressive. Yes, it does not offer the sort of line variation as the BAMF can but my goodness, it was fabulous. But the big difference between the two is of course, cost with the MB costing far more

1. That's a beautiful and useful pen. Thanks for showing it to us. The only thiing I dislike about it is the sophomoric name. Oh, and the price, as I personally don't place any value in the manufactory. 2. I purchased and briefly used a competitor's cheapo Zebra G fountain pen. I found the dip nib far too unpleasant and finicky to be bothered with. Luckily it was cheap enough I could just toss it. I would recommend to anyone without experience with dip nibs, before investing in this pen, maybe buy a Zebra G nib and dip nib holder for $5 and give it a try first. Quite different from a fountain pen nib, both in use and results.

Another way to clean a dip nib is a cheap toothpaste and a soft toothbrush. The potato also works but you must be careful not to bend the tines when you stab the potato.

Thank you so much for the review of Pierre’s pen. I think 2021 will be the year I will order a Desiderata Pen. I too met Pierre in 2017 at the Chicago Pelikan Hub. For a good part of the Hub at the Chicago Fire Clubhouse, my wife and I sat across the table from Pierre and had a wonderful time talking and ouuiing and ahhing over the pens we each brought to the Hub. YEs, keep the conversation videos with Pierre coming, as you both have the time. And since you have confessed (and demonstrated) fancy writing is not your thing, I suggest you send the BAMF eastward to Toronto, where there is a Lady who does fantastic satisfying videos with flex pens -jus saying.

After a month of using the newest release of the Desiderata BAMF with a Zebra-G nib, I can say that it is the most inspiring to my creative ideas of any pen I've ever used. The new version has a screw piston knob. The Zebra-G is available in a pro model that has a gold color and resists corrosion better than the regular Zebra-G. Take the product instructions you find on Desiderata's site seriously.

I got the italic style nib on mine, and it seems to not have any skipping issues, and I get quite a lot of line variation on it. I didn't do the potato trick, I just used water and paper towels to wipe off the residue (not sure if there was any, I just was told that it may so I went and did it anyways), and it wrote beautifully straight away. I absolutely love this pen, my only small quibble is that it feels a bit light to me, but other than that I am extremely happy with my purchase!

Thank you for this review. I am charmed by the aesthetics of the pen. The flashes of red are inspired. I think that you are right to compare it to the Lamy. It shares a certain Bauhaus/deStijl charm. The price is very fair and competitive with Edison and others. I’m tempted.

Oh yeahhhh. Looks like a great art pen. In the wild, dangerous animals use red to let everyone know they're a BAMF. I tried fitting an X450 with a Zebra G, but it didn't work great, mostly because of the feed.

There are not many companies and pens that appeal to me. I am over my 'testing/experience phase' and I am a very practical person. A pen has to write, at least for me. The only two pens that still have me interested are the Pelikan M805 Stresemann and the BAMF. And right now, I am much more likely to purchase the BAMF than the M805.

You could also use saliva on the nib to prep it. I was thinking of getting this pen a while ago and still consider getting one. I was only worried about the corrosion of the nib on the feed housing. I was not sure if spares of the feed and housing could be ordered, in case the corrosion damages that part. 🤔 I have used Jinhao x450 and x750 with the Zebra G nib, with issues. It does work, just not great and if the nib corroded into the section then the entire pen would be replaced. This isn't too bad since those pens are generally under $10.

can you use shimmer inks with this pen? Since you have to change out the nibs every few weeks this would seem to be a good option so you don't have to worry about your gold nibbed pens getting clogged?

Wonder if he would consider doing the red section in black... Love the depth of black this pen has (its like staring into a pen shaped nothingness) and the classic shape. Only draw back to me is the red section, for some reason it throws off that nothingness feel... Would love to play w the zebra g nib too and it being in a fountain pen makes that very attractive... Will have to keep a look out on this pen and hope...

Cool pen although I certainly haven’t the skill to use it with a dip nib. Someone stated they’d have preferred it all black, but I personally love the plum red color. Gives it an elegant look. Pierre seems like a great guy. He must also be brave to imprint a name like that on its side. Just sayin’.

I wish that they would make gold plated versions of the nib with a tiny amount of tipping specifically for fountain pens. I also wish they made gold or titanium plated brause rose nib with tipping. Such a cool idea. I wish I knew someone who had the equipment to weld tipping onto nibs. Everytime I’ve seen someone do it, it looks very easy and simple to do. And a brause rose gold plated with a hard alloy tip would be an amazing flex pen.

Beautiful pen with a beautiful price to match. I'm torn between the name because while I find it funny, I'm not sure if that's what's intended or if they genuinely find this pen a bamf. Slapping a dip nib on a fountain pen isn't revolutionary but I like the vintage look of the rest of the pen.
