@@lzrd8460I mean, Drew has earned his success and I love seeing him restore and furnish his home in a way that respects its history. A tour of IKEA is always fun and they have a lot of great designs. The drawback for me is that their case goods are MDF with just a thin wood veneer. They look nice to begin with but do not always age well because the MDF can warp and it adds a lot of weight to the piece. . To be honest, I much prefer your vintage pieces that are all natural wood and that have a patina that only time can impart. I love furniture and view each piece as an investment, so I always go for quality and would only fall back on IKEA pieces if I couldn't find the right piece in better quality. Probably the only exception to that is something like you did with making your IKEA bookshelves look like expensive built-ins. That would have been so much more expensive in high-end custom units so it made perfect sense to go the route you did.

You are battle-tested and proven to be able to handle anything :)

Don't you Americans feel that furniture from IKEA is tiny? I'm European but sometimes it makes me laugh, at least some of the pieces. I feel like I'm in a doolhouse when in IKEA. Our rooms are usually 2,65m high (8,7ft) and their bookcases etc "high" furniture is most often 2,2m. Built-ins that are from top to bottom really elevate the space, especially in kitchens. Upper cabinets that don't reach the ceiling is a no-go.

Challenge for every englisch speaker: Pronouce IKEA the original way: First the "I" from the name "Ian". The "K" is okay, the "E" from "electricity" and the "A" can stay. Maybe a little silent "H" at the end to give the "A" a swedisch touch.

It is so weird, that fast fashion like Shein is a no go, but fast furnitures aren't (in Europe more). Ikea is not ethical at all: The founder was a Nazi, there were many scandals regarding child labour. Ikea illegally clearing primeval forest in Siberia and very often did not follow Animal protection laws (e.g. down duvets). And there is no equality between men and women in leadership positions. It is sad to see influencers shipping Ikea so much. In Germany it is the opposite of "cool " to have Ikea furniture and that is the reason why. Ikea is like Shein.

If you live in a basement or ,apt, condo and maybe townhome than ikea is great but now in a house . You need something that will last through out your life meaning don't buy pressed particle wood . You need real wood and splurge on fabric. You don't want people coming over for dinner and have the same things that you have.

Just a little FYI: I visited an IKEA store in Dubai three years ago and the prices for the same items there were a fraction of what they are in the US and the store was absolutely fabulous. They can get away with charging so much more in the US because all the prices here are insane, so they have no reasonably priced competition. .

FYI design tips: 1. Include the 3 -B's, Books, Brass & Black.......2. Arrange in groups odd numbers, i.e., 1-3-5-7 etc.......3. Arrange items in a zig zag pattern, i.e., using books as an example, which ever side you place the first grouping, place on the opposite side on next shelf, continue pattern......4. Hanging drapes/curtains close to ceiling & 6 -12 inches from side of windows [where possible].......6. And last, plants. alive or artificial makes the dwelling feel lived in. Always enjoy your videos.
