Well done. As someone born & raised off Crenshaw in the 60s, I really enjoyed this AND learned some new things too. Thank you.

GREAT doc!!!! I was living in L.A. during the Rodney King riots, it was so devastating to see Crenshaw and surrounding areas destroyed. The history of the area will always be prominent!!!

I grew up in the Crenshaw and Slauson area, I remember a lot of Japanese families lived near Dorsey High School in the Crenshaw and Exposition area…. Leimert residents in the 1940s was Jewish and Italian families. When “white flight” took place in the early 1950s, the Jews and Italians moved to West L.A…. Growing up I lived off of Slauson and 2nd Ave, as an adult I lived on Angeles Vista & Mullen and Overhill & 64th! There’s nothing like “The Shaw”!!🗣❤️🤗

1:25 Our Mural by the R.T.N Crew of south Central " Our mighty contribution" 2001-2 I painted the Dancing Locker Character!! Some of the Original Campbellockers went to Crenshaw high.Leo "Flukey Luke" went there!! The dance style was cultivated there on Crenshaw as well as other popular clubs. One of those clubs was Mavericks Flat. half block from stocker on Crenshaw! The dance was created in 1970 by Don "Campbellock" Campbell. As I said I painted the locker, "Aus" painted the break dancer and African dancer, "Enkone" painted the black panthers

I visited recently with a friend who grew up there. Visited Leimert Park, other notable sights then lo and behold stopped to watch the police arrest a bloodied and handcuffed young man right off Central! Black of course. Onlookers were mostly non English speaking Mexicans. The hysterical mother insisted her son be taken to the hospital. Same thing, new day. Nothing will change until African Americans organize politically and economically, educate and elevate as a Black United Front. Stop assimilating. That’s not advancing us . Sure, live where you want, marry who you want but think strategically as a force to be reckoned with. Unity and privilege is how others advance. We’ve done well enough without the privilege. Unity is the key. Until then , more documentaries about the rise and fall of our communities. Aren’t you sick and tired of being sick and tired yet⁉️
