At 5:15, i read it as you need to get 200k in total over multiple runs, so 2 runs at 100k will get you the pinnacle, and 4 runs at 50k will etc. instead of requiring 100k in one run. This will mean they add up the score you get over multiple nightfall runs and one you get a cumulative score of 200k, you will get the pinnacle to drop

Or better yet. Make the Age of triumphs armor only available in Master raids, and make such armor artifice. (Artifice armor should not just be a dungeon reward despite raids already having Adept weapons. It should be available for all master content that has specific armor drops.) This could be further exemplified by adding artifice armor in the form of strike specific loot back in to the game. For example, a GM can give you a high level artifice Arm piece that can only be found within that strike. The tradeout for such loot is that maybe Bungie does not make so many weapons this season, and uses old weapons that have been in the game such as the Multimach to refurbish the activity loot pools.

@Brownmangaming we had that before. In fact it's all we had after they deprecated the normal Strike playlist back when Shadowkeep came out because no one played it at all. I don't think the issue is about whether we CAN build for different things, but rather, do people WANT to build for all manner different things. Once you play this game for a bit you get to know what you do and don't like. Destiny has a sandbox with lots of options, it feels like Bungie just gets to arbitrarily remove a bunch of those options so you are no longer playing Destiny how you enjoy to play Destiny, you are at the mercy of whatever Bungie picks for you. That doesn't feel good for many people. Changing things up is a choice a player can do voluntarily whenever they wish, but through these systems, Bungie takes that player agency away. Me personally, I know how I enjoy destiny, I have specific weapons that I have put the time in to acquire because they are my favorite weapons. I don't particularly like it when I am basically, strongly dissuaded from using them or totally forced not to use them.

I agree with your takes on difficulty and surges. Locking power level below target is something I've wanted for a while to standardize the difficulty of an encounter and stop demanding as much mindless artifact farming over the season. One of the few gripes I have about this is that Legend difficulty is going to feel somewhat pointless at just -5 relative to Master content, and should probably be capped a bit lower for accessibility's sake. Surges and overcharges are just completely unnecessary and my main problem with them is that they're completely passive bonuses. Overpowered artifact mods have enforced DPS metas in the past, but they had activation conditions and mod demands that made them feel like you were opting into a bonus. Conversely, just getting 25% damage for free is so consistent and universal that it instead feels like you're getting punished for not conforming. It just feels like it goes against all of the other buildcrafting and QOL stuff they've announced leading up to Lightfall. Hopefully this ends up significantly tuned down or reworked before too long, though Bungie's history suggests otherwise.

I think the massive 50 PL jump between Hero and Legend (1765 to 1815 effective PL) was a mistake. The -15 PL in Legend is fine, that level of difficulty works (though a reward increase to compensate would be nice). But requiring people to hit 5 over Pinnacle cap just to run the most basic level of non-matchmade PvE content is a bit ridiculous. Setting Legend to be at, say 1815, with an effective max PL of 1800 would be much better. The difficulty doesn't change, but it lets people slowly transition into the harder difficulties of the game as they hit the powerful cap, and makes Legend a more accessible difficulty earlier in the season.

Just remember, there’s nothing wrong with making mistakes, if a build doesn’t work out the way you imagine it you can always adjust it later with no loss to yourself. Just remember the most important thing is to have fun!

The D2 community is very unforgiving to players who make mistakes, and it's getting harder to find sherpas to learn end game with. D2 is at its finest when you are playing endgame content with a team that just flows, where everything is on a fine razor edge and even a single death is the difference between succeeding an encounter or wiping. And if you've read this far, consider sherpa-ing a random through a dungeon. Maybe remember back to your days of first raiding, and your Fireteam being cool with you causing a wipe 3 times in a row cos you were learning and made a mistake.

Maybe the keys could be a reward at the end of Legend and up Nightfalls, being that you get a 100% chance drop from a GM. These keys can then be spent at the end of the Nightfall for a chance to get an Artifice armor piece specific to the strike, and another guaranteed adept (in GMs) drop for the weekly Nightfall. You can farm Keys, up until you have 10, and you can cash them all in at the end of the nightfall. Chances of getting the Artifice piece increases the harder the nightfall. Hero and Adept nightfalls dont have a chest or key drop.

I’m also the type of player that doesn’t want to always rely on other people to make builds for me. The problem I have with the difficulty increase personally is that it's more ostracizing to newer players. Destiny already has difficult content, that being Legends, Masters, GMs, Raids, Dungeons, etc. With the single exception of maybe the Vanguard Playlist, a lack of difficulty has never really been an issue for Destiny because if you wanted harder content, it was already there waiting for you. Increasing the difficulty from the bottom up like this however is only going to push people away, especially if there's no added incentive to playing the harder content. This is why the "your job has been paying you more for years and is only now asking you to do more work" analogy doesn't work because sure, while you might think that logically makes sense, that's not what most people are going to see it as. Most people see it as your boss asking you to do more work without extra pay. Beyond that actually very massive issue, I actually like the idea of an increase in difficult, personally. While Destiny is already effectively a full-time job in it's own right due to how grindy many of the challenges can be, I would like it if the difficulty in Strikes was bumped up a good amount (even if it kills my Arc Hunter Melee build). I'm not sure whether I agree or disagree with your opinion on loot balance changes to Vanguard Playlist, but I did find it lacking either way. Yes, the Vanguard Playlist is too simple to be the primary source of high-end loot, but at the same time I think a lot of the frustration comes from the fact that there's several dozen different challenges that task you with playing Strikes over and over and over again with very little reward. I think a lot of the opinions in this video stem from the mindset that the grind is simply about getting loot and god rolls, but ignores the fact that a lot of people are just trying to complete the actual challenges and achievements that Bungie has laid out for us, but we don't want it to feel like a pointless venture. I personally don't play Destiny to collect god rolls on every weapon, I just want to complete as many challenges as I can and hopefully one day earn one of those title things. I don't think playing the game that way should be any more or less valid than playing the game to be the best ever. A side-note to this is that I find it kind of funny that he thinks Lost Sectors and Dares should have better loot, but not the Vanguard Playlist. Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, but whatever.

I think also, some people (such as myself), sort of just have to accept that Bungie, and Destiny players, want the game to go in a direction that isn't for you. I like Destiny for exploring all the pretty maps, seeing all the cool areas in places like missions, strikes and raids, and playing through the story/learning the lore of the game. I can't really sit down and grind, I have a disability that prevents me from sitting at my computer for too long, so I usually try to take it slow. I understand that a lot of Destiny players aren't like that, and aren't interested as much in the same things I am. They want to grind and improve and play as efficiently as possible. It makes sense that Bungie also wants to cater to that type of player, because they're the ones who put in the most hours on the game. It does make me nervous that it'll be harder for me, or players like me, to be able to enjoy the things about Destiny that don't include buildcrafting, or optimization. But maybe that's just how it is, and maybe I spend more time watching story recaps on KZitem or other people doing the raid, and less time in game. They can't develop the game with everyone in mind, and maybe it's just up to me to understand that, just because I love Destiny's world and it's design, doesn't mean I'm entitled to being able to experience it myself. Developers can't always be thinking of everyone when they make changes that cater to specific playstyles like this, some players are bound to get left behind, and if that's what has to happen for the most present Destiny players to be happy, then so be it.

I hear what you're saying, but my rebuttal on the Vanguard Ops playlist and Gambit would be: • Bungie knows how boring non-Nightfall Strikes are, hence why the Vanguard Ops playlist is getting any changes at all. Ultimately it may still be the easiest content in the game, but Bungie is at least making an attempt to make that content less steamroll-y. So to your point about loot, I mean, this IS a LOOTer game, and I'm sorry but I want loot in my LOOTer game. Not feeling rewarding enough has been an issue with Destiny since its inception. • If Bungie is giving up on Gambit due to not wanting to waste anymore resources, then why in the hell are Quests, and the general game STILL telling players to play Gambit? We just want to hear Bungie at least say they give up. But instead they continue to stay silent all the while the game STILL pushes players to play Gambit.

Look, I totally understand and have no problem with adding more difficult content to the players who want it, but I really don't see a point in *taking away* easier/more accessible difficulty options for people who aren't top tier players. I've been playing OG Destiny since day 1. I follow the build guides, I understand the mechanics, but my reflexes, and my vision just simply wont ever allow me to get to a place where I'm going to be doing GM nightfalls or Solo Flawless *anything.* And that has been just fine for me. But these difficulty changes do make me VERY nervous. I've given several hundreds of my dollars and hours of my life to bungie and I'm worried that more content that I HAVE PAID FOR will be locked behind ridiculous skill walls that I will never physically be able to achieve. Datto. Dude. Bungie did NOT do a complete gambit overhaul last year. They tweaked it. Like they have on some level the past few years. An overhaul requires the addition of new maps. Mechanics. Perhaps even new enemy skins (we’ve got several varieties of each race: why not rotate them). People don’t touch it because Bungie isn’t touched it in the ways people have been screaming about. Look: I know PVP is a much bigger draw and it took half a decade for Bungie to even tinker with that on a semi-legit level. So my expectations for gambit aren’t huge. But let’s not pretend what they did last year was anything other than the band aid on a corpse you referenced earlier (love that analogy BTW). Bungie CANNOT say “we tried everything with gambit.” It’s stale. And it’s stale because people are sick of the same 4 maps. We have fewer than when we started. People scream about the stale maps in crucible and there’s what? 20 of them?

To have to do a massive soft cap push (campaign?) and then a 50 point powerful grind when they just increased the amount of time required to complete the same old content to get back to the fun stuff is obnoxious. We play this for fun. It's not our jobs (most of us). All they did was make it more of a grind to get back to status quo for many veteran players. And then they wonder why we bounty hoard.... it's because a lot of that old shit is boring at this stage. But at least it's now going to take more time. Grind on guardians.

I took a break from D2 for the past 2 seasons becasue it has just been tiring to play this game with how much we just roll over everything. I felt many of these opinons that Datto shared in this video, especially with the overexaggeration from certain parts from the community about the game being harder. After reading about the changes, I'm very intersted in finally getting back into D2 to see how these changes play out.

Here's my thought. I run a GM, because I know what I'm getting into, and there's a meaningful reward to match at the end. But now I won't run a Master, because the weapon won't be adept, and it's a lot harder for just exotics and a lower chance at shards. At just another -5 power handicap and some mildly inconvenient modifiers, I can run the same build in a GM and be rewarded far better. The reward structure will need to change to match as these are my considerations under the current rewards structure.

My only issue with Gambit is they put in a lot of work to make changes, but nearly all of those changes were aimed at making it friendlier to a wider audience. The problem with that is the people who enjoyed and played gambit suddenly lost a lot of the depth and competitiveness from the mode they enjoyed, and the players who didn't enjoy or play gambit are going to stay that way regardless of what changes are made. The only thing that i think could save gambit at this point is a complete reversion to it's pre Beyond Light state (Gambit, Prime, Reckoning, 6 Maps) and then continuous expansions on that system (Mods for roles, more maps, different gamemodes, trials/gm alternative, primeval specific mechanics, etc). It needs something for the new and casual players to enjoy. It needs something to provide a more difficult and engaging gameplay loop for veteran players. It needs something to provide endgame challenge and gear. It all boils down to bringing on par with Vanguard and Crucible, not stripping it down and making it less similar lie what happened in beyond light.

so, i agree with you on most points. What i dont understand is why couldnt they just leave the base difficulty mode? reduce the loot for it or something. 1 reason for this would be for grinding out bounties not sure about anyone else but i already dont like having to do bounties in harder content just because most of them are forcing you to run "more" specific things in order to be optimal and that may not line up with modifiers already active so you would have to pick and choose. Which for you may be fine and thats fair just a reason i think it would be a good idea to keep a base level difficulty in the game that doesnt modify the power. I could also see these changes being brought in because they are clearly moving towards a "power level-less" destiny 2 which is also fine. there has not really been much of an incentive to grind out that power other than grandmasters but for most people and a little luck, you can get that by the time grandmasters launch with little to no effort anyways. You say the vanguard playlist is boring but personally I feel like spamming the exact same nightfall strike 10 times in a row is more boring. But i also think it should give drops a bit more consistently from the end chest, you get more consistent loot from gambit/crucible per completion. I get a blowout from nearly every crucible match, but it takes me like 3 or 4 strikes to even get one prolonged engagement. I don't think strikes should be spewing high tier loot all over the place but I do think the rates of gear drops should be brought up to match the other ritual playlists, that way the time investment to reward ratio matches the others.

My biggest worry with Elemental Surges and Weapon Overcharging is that it's gonna be another new thing LFG servers are going to get toxic and picky over when it comes to getting groups together for GM's. It's bad enough when people get kicked for not throwing down Wells every possible second regardless of weather or not they're needed in those moments; now just add on the getting angry over not running the one weapon that get's Overcharged that week because the Champion stunning methods you're comfortable with don't match up or don't have a good enough roll on a Heavy Weapon that fits that specific bill for the week.

After launch, and as a player from ttk era, I can say that this is pretty rough for a casual player entering the game for the first time. It feels like they want it to be sweaty if you're not modded up perfectly, and then doable with moderate effort if you are. Then on top of that, your power level becomes effectively meaningless once you reach the cap, which I think is master that caps you at 1820, but really any activity caps you. So what's really the incentive? The opportunity to do even harder activities without actually getting any more powerful?? Yeah, that feels pretty unrewarding, especially when there's still no powerful or pinnacle protection or guarantees. Doing 3 capped activities for an hour of my free time for a pinnacle that doesn't actually make me more powerful and then getting an item that doesn't even improve the slot anyway. Who thinks this is fun?? How on earth did anyone at Bungie see the universally positive feedback from season 9, where we could actually choose from the sundial, and go "....naaahhh" and never have anything like it again???

@@NobleVI_343 i do know how skeleton keys work, i actually played through all of D1 as well. The problem is that the reward system from skeleton keys would have to work very differently considering all the reward sources we have now in D2. People would not love that yes, even though you get strike specific loot, you'll have people whining about red border drops, bad rolls on weapons and bas stat rolls on armor, and also when they get the specific gear they want, then they will again say 'there is nothing else to do now'. Making a playlist more engaging jn its gameplay instead of 'heres more loot' i feel is more important long term wise. I do agree in strike scoring tho, that would be fun especially with a leaderboard system.

I actually agree with most of these takes, except for the Gambit comment. I would call what they did with the revamp “barely trying.” Yeah they tried, but barely. And quickly abandoned it too before even trying any interesting experiments. An overhaul to the core rules for the 4th-5th time while not adding anything new or even any new incentives to play, to bring back players who left it for these reasons, is not “new content.” They’ve literally only taken things away: modes, maps, bosses, weapons, armor, etc. The body has been slowly hacked away at, so that only the bones are even left at this point. If it continues to look like Bungie abandoned it then they can’t really be surprised when no one comes back try out the new version. To the average player some rules changes don’t matter, it looks like the same mode they already made their minds up about. Heck a lot of people only play Trials because there’s some of the best loot there, if there was some incentive to go for or some long term goal the playlist would be much more populated than it currently is, of that I am sure.

I think the reason people want the ops drop rates to go up is cause if your not running vanguard prosperity on your ghost it's can be a 50/50 drop rate sometimes like for me I'll do my pinnacle then do like 10 15 more ops sometimes just messing with builds n that and won't see another drop or I might see a drop ever 5-7 strikes and thats with slaying everything as I've just always been that sorta player ops definitely needs it's loot touched up a little bit even if its only to raise the chance of some of the older loot drops that I never see drop anymore unless its from a zavala engram but with everything else going in in strikes and difficulty it should make the game more fun (I personally can't speak on gms or raids never have enough players) but from being scared to do master lost sectors to making 1 void build and suddenly I'm thinking ahh this is easy and 2 maning and basically soloing legend nfs and was gonna try a master nf but didn't have enough people on to confidently try it but generally the games to easy vanguard ops getting harder will help most newlights get comfortable going into other content pushing to endgame content another thing to note I don't believe the base difficulty is going uo of dungeons or raids just the master difficulty

The problem being that there is only 1 'role' in gambit, invader, everyone needs to do everything else. Only invaders would need to, potentially, have weapons and gear best equipped for invading. Everyone else, needs everything you'd need to play optimally. Hell even invaders really should have a boss killing aeapon or super equipped. The only 'role' there ever was was invader. Everyone needed to be involved in killing invaders, blockers, chaff adds and then the boss. Everyone needed to be able to do all the PvE stuff that is most of a Gambit game, only Invaders had any sort of role. Reaper, Sentry, Collector from Prime were all made up because everyone was doing those things. Its been the case since Gambit released in Forsaken. You can, and always could, determine a gambit game by the first invasion. The team that gets the first effective Invasion of just is that much ahead than the others, and the catchup mote pinatas don't really do much of anything to help when you haven't invaded yet, but the other team is getting close to their second.

My ONLY concern is with the Surge system. If all high-end content is balanced around players having a 25% damage boost, then that boost becomes mandatory in many scenarios. And with Subclass Surges lasting an entire Season, I'm worried certain builds won't be viable for months at a time just due to the rotating Subclass selector. Weapon Surges are also concerning for a smaller version of that problem: Destiny already has too many "gotta do this activity on this day/week" moments. I don't want to load up a GM and then no one wants to run it because a more optimal Weapon Surge combo shows up on Wednesday, and since today is Scout Rifle day the Strike is for no reason 25% harder.
