Destiny 2’s free-to-play experience is really more of a demo in my experience. There’s a lot of fun content for new players, and playing through it is a good way to see if you actually want to invest in the game. If you enjoyed the free-to-play content, here’s my suggestion on what expansions to get in what order. 1.) *Lightfall:* It’s D2’s newest annual dlc. It comes with a new campaign, a new destination, a new subclass, a raid, new strikes, lots of new gear and more. 2. *Witchqueen:* This expansion is a lot like Lightfall in terms of the amount of content you get. There’s a great campaign, a new patrol space, strikes, a raid, and cool gear. 3. *Beyond Light:* This one is solid and adds the same types of content. The campaign for this dlc is pretty good. The biggest buying point for this expansion is *Stasis,* a new ice themed subclass. 4. *Shadowkeep:* This dlc is mediocre if I’m being honest. It’s much older than the others, Bungie hadn’t yet settled into their current style. It’s campaign feels like a prolonged list of chores, rather than a collection of cool story missions. There are other dlc’s too that include different pieces of content. The *30th Anniversary Bundle* grants you access to a pirate themed dungeon and a host of reprised Destiny 1 weapons (including a powerful exotic rocket launcher). The *Forsaken Pack* unlocks a bunch of exotic weapons, includes a dungeon and really cool raid. The *Season Pass/Annual Pass* allows you to play through seasonal content. Each season there’s a new story with unique missions, quests, activities, and loot. Annnd the *Dungeon Key.* Buying this grants you access to 2 new dungeons that Bungie releases each year going forward. In March, there’ll probably be another one. Hope this comment was helpful.

And now it's probably one of the greatest gaming experiences we've had of all time. There's nothing like going thru dungeons and raids with buddies in this game. Also, no other game developer makes Handcannons feel good like this game can. The sights and sounds are an experience, guns shoot gud which makes up for all its problems. But you're absolutely right, the fun in this game is directly proportional to how many friends you have. Playing this game solo is just not the way and you will hate it if you do.

Another thing to mention, there is a soft power and hard power cap every season, before i quit, every new guardian started at 1100, and it takes a little bit of grind to get to 1270 (the soft cap), after getting to the soft cap, every gear drop will no longer drop at 20 something levels above your current power, something that commonly occurs on the way from 1100 to power. After getting to the soft cap, you will have to start looking for specific daily or weekly objectives that will grant powerful or pinnacle gear, this will all be listed on the mission select screen with all the different planets and locations. Once you start getting to the hard cap, i think it was around 1320 power at the time, only pinnacles will grant you higher power. Each power cap will greatly slow down the rate of which you gain higher light levels, thus creating a very tedious "grind" for all players to go through once they pass a certain power level. Every new season raises the base power, soft cap, and hard cap by a certain amount, Currently i think the starting power is 1600, soft cap is 1750, and hard cap is 1810? I'm not quite sure. Also a helpful thing to note that Macro left out, grinding up new classes to be on par with classes you have already leveled up is not as tedious as it seems, yes the vault exists, but that can only be used to share weapons, as each class has their own unique sets of armor pieces. However, there is a way Bungie makes the process a lot easier. For example, is your Warlock was at 1790 power level, and you create a Titan, every gear drop you receive until you get to 1790 will be far higher than your current light level, basically the same as grinding from base power to the soft cap, except since you have one character leveled beyond the soft cap, the process goes much faster, your other character's power level basically becomes the new soft cap for the new class. Yet ANOTHER thing to mention, weapon and gear rolls. In the destiny 2 community, you'll hear the term "roll" a lot. This is referring to the magical dice of RNG every weapon drops with. Basically, a roll is a set of perks that the weapon can receive, most legendary weapons get 4 perks, and each perk corresponds to a different part of the weapon. For example, an Auto Rifle can drop with perks for Stocks, Barrels, Magazines, and other stuff, a really good combination of perks generally favoured by most of the community is called a god roll, you can check a lot of different videos and websites to find out what a godroll is, and generally which perks are better than others. Yes, this also means that the same exact weapon can drop with different perks, meaning if you get a "good" weapon based on its stats, the roll might not be favorable, causing a lot of frustration for many. The same applies for armor, with rolls not granting perks but rather stat rolls. The stats in destiny 2 are Mobility, Resilience, Intelligence, Recovery, Discipline, and Strength. Some are self explanatory, some are not. Mobility is how fast you run and how far and high you jump, resilience is basically how much health you have, recovery is how fast you regain health, intelligence is how fast your super ability charges, discipline is how fast your grenade recharges, and strength is how fast your melee ability recharges. Each class also has its own "Class ability, hunters get a roll that has utility, warlocks get a circle on the ground that can heal you or increase your damage, and titans get a shield they place on the ground, the speed of which these class abilities recharge is also based on stats, hunters get faster roll recharge with a higher mobility stat, warlocks with a higher recovery stat, and titans with a higher resilience stat. You can tweak these stats to match what kind of playstyle you have, and good armor rolls are rolls that give stat points to the category you want them to be in. You can also artificially add these points with armor mods and other things. These points contribute to a scale of 1-10, if I have 10 mobility points, my mobility level is 1, if i have 20, its 2, if I have 30, its 3, and so on until 100 points, making 10. Nothing will actually change to your guardian if the stat points do not achieve a higher number on the scale, for example if I have 76 mobility points, the actual power of that number on the scale will still be 7, same with 89, it'll be 8, the number only affects your character if it breaks the 10 points required to raise it to a higher number on the scale. This all sounds stupidly confusing, and that is simply because it is. Without the help of experienced players and friends, Destiny 2 is basically a mess of words that you don't understand and stats you don't care about. I think that is the reason a lot of players get turned away and alienated from the game. Anyways, I hope this verbal vomit of information helps, good luck guardian.

Suggestion to those wonder to purchase the silver to join Seasons or not: Some of the season campaigns and activities provides decent story line (like the Season 19 the Seraph right now), but some are just lame and full of grinding stuff. Unless you really want to catch up and stay with the story line that Bungie offers, there's no need to join every season. On the other hand, you can just browse those seasonal weapons and gears to see if they are attractive to you (in cosmetic) and make your decision. Every season has a major cosmetic style and you might want to have a collection.

The biggest thing new players need to know: the game isn't free to play, it's free to try (as of pre-Lightfall release). The base game has a very limited selection of game modes (crucible, strikes, gambit, dares, and two raids), and you'll need to spend $40 usd just to buy the most recent expansion. That's not even mentioning the $100 price tag on this year's upcoming expansion, or the other four that unlock many important features. For players just getting into the game that can't decide whether or not to buy expansions, I'd first recommend doing one of three things to find out how much you actually enjoy playing: farm as much gear as you can and try to reach a predetermined power level (something like 1540 is probably a reasonable goal), do one of the two raids (King's Fall has a very high power level requirement, so I'd recommend Vault of Glass), or get some decent weapons and try out PvP (KZitem can help you find good loadouts). Pick whichever route sounds the most fun for you, and decide afterwards if you enjoy the game enough to want to invest into it. Side note: A great youtuber named CammyCakes just recently uploaded a video that breaks down the most efficient way to grind as a new free to play player. Definitely would watch his video if you're serious about getting into Destiny but don't want to buy DLCs just yet.

I joined when the campaign wasn't a complete mess, so I don't really know how the New Light experience is, but I hear it is complicated and confusing. But the endgame is extremely fun, just as long as you have a deep wallet.

It's less confusing more. Heres how to shoot. Here's how bounties work, Here's how a strkes works. Here's the rest of the game, bye.

you already know all the dedicated D2 players started malding when he said shadowkeep was well made and forsaken was "ok", lol. New player perspectives are hilarious but also super informative to us veterans out there who need to see the game through a newbies eyes. I will be watching more of Macro's destiny content for sure

He hasn’t played through Forsaken, and will never be able to. I think he was referring to the Forsaken pack, which is objectively worse than the Shadowkeep expansion

This was a great video! A destiny noob making a destiny 2 for noobs video helped to break down this mammoth of a game into smaller chunks that's easy to digest, without getting caught in subconscious bias that us who have played for a long time would make

New Lights: “this world is incredible, but what’s the story? Where do I start in the lore”? Byf transmats out of nowhere: “Sit, little light, and let me tell you a story. It all began a long time ago, before time had meaning..” *opens large tome*

You basically have to go to Byf for the lore. You can't really get much of it in the game itself.

As someone who has been playing since d1 it's nice to see a newcomers perspective. As a destiny "vet" it's easy for us to get caught up in everything that bugs us in the game. We don't realize it but these are things that only vets of the franchise really notice and they won't really be problems for new lights until they get really invested. It just goes to show that while it may have many problems we fell in love with the game because at the root of it, it is an addicting game. One that despite all the problems will have us all crawling back every new season/ expansion. This video also shows how dedicated to the game we have been. Things we see as simple mechanics of the game are things that are difficult for new people to learn. Such as how materials work, armor stats and weapon rolls and a whole bunch of other things. I think the reason the destiny community is nice is because this game is hard to really understand if you just play it casually. In order to really understand you need to use reddit, watch KZitem videos or have someone reach you. We know the struggle of having to learn everything. Whether by ourselves or with other peoples help. Knowing the struggle and wanting others not to leave the game because it's confusing is what drives us to teach others. we want others to play and enjoy the game because it's amazing. One last thing. With other games you see the higher ups in the company slowly kill the game for money or to cater to a specific group of players in the game (apex legends). While the Bungie team is not perfect and there are problems in the game ( might have to do with the executives more than the game developers) the team is generally left alone to care for the game. Which they do. In summary. Destiny is a game we all got hooked on. This video provided a fresh perspective about how we fell in love with it and want others to experience that even though it is a difficult game to understand.

back when this was a paid game, i got it during a free promotion, but haven't really played it since then. and i don't like to play sequels before playing the original, but Destiny 1 isn't on Steam :c had to buy a console version, so now ima suffer (i have no clue how people play shooters on console, the controls just feel wrong to me)..... as soon as they fix the authentication servers so i can actually play.
