I like destiny. But after 10 years of playing the same content over and over, it just didn’t have the same appeal that it used to. I wish bungie had the balls to actually change up the gameplay loop from season to season, but instead we get the exact same activities with a new coat of paint. I miss the days where exotics actually felt powerful ( like in forsaken), not to mention the fact we get 1 raid a year, that is laughable for a game calling itself an MMO. The forsaken year added 3 raids, like its not even comparable. Forsaken was the best year of destiny and it’s well and truly behind us.

I love that this turned out to be a review on the entirety of Destiny 2 and not just the Witch Queen. I think we can all agree that the Witch Queen (campaign) rocks, and there aren't any content creators stating otherwise. That being said, the whole package at this point feels held back by some odd choices regarding content vaulting, and the lack of meaningful additions to the core playlists. This review has definitely brought light to a lot of those issues and hopefully we can get the game to the place we all know it deserves to be :) Ralph, you continue to have a unique voice in the game review space on KZitem and every upload of yours is a banger, thanks for such an honest review of a game we all love

Well according to Bungie the reasoning for the creation of the Destiny Content Vault was mostly due to memory space. They stated if the content that was sunsetted in the vault were to be re-added it would cause the storage space to nearly triple the size of it already contains and would take up the entire hardware on an Xbox One or PS4.
@gaiance
2 жыл бұрын
@@e1iteyoshi998 Storage space was definitely one of the reasons, but it wasn't the largest. It was mostly because older content that virtually noone was playing was bogging the rest of the game down. Every time they'd add something they'd have to go back and update /all/ of that old content and maintain it alongside everything else to make sure nothing breaks. Removing a huge chunk of stuff noone was interacting with anymore opened Bungie up to being able to work on giving us a lot more new content per season, which has definitely shown; as well as allowing them to update the engine and give us greater new systems, like crossplay, individual ability timings, and the new subclass systems ala Stasis and Void 3.0. The benefits of the DCV are visible, blatant, and justified; and what we've lost, while unfortunate, pale in comparison to what we've gained.

To address your point about nobody using Stasis, I will simply state that it is not a factor of Stasis being weaker than Void 3.0, it is just a combination of two factors. 1) The Seasonal Artifact heavily incentivizes building into void, as Volatile Flow is EXTREMELY powerful, and even beyond just that one mod, there are other very strong mods like Devouring Depths and Energy Vampirism, both of which are quite strong in their own right. 2) Void 3.0 is the new shininess and people like to play with new things. The Seasonal Artifact has always functioned as a sort of guide-rail to point people into a particular subset of builds. Whether or not that is a good thing is debatable, and I think you can make a strong argument that it is not a good thing, but that is largely a separate discussion. Still, I was using stasis quite a bit while testing out the new Stasis exotics, and I can pretty definitively say that a good Stasis build is arguably as good or better than anything Void 3.0 has to offer once you remove the seasonal mods from the equation. In PvP, I think the best current build is actually Stasis Hunter with Renewal Grasps.

For what it's worth I've been playing a lot of Stasis so far in WQ. I really came around on Behemoth at the end of last season, and that has continued on through WQ. And the new Renewal Grasps hunter gauntlets are a lot of fun and I've been experimenting with them. As for his comment about no weapon really landing with him, I've had several so far (and Funnelweb's not even one of them). Syncopation has become my new bread and butter, especially with a Stasis build. Under Your Skin is a ton of fun, as is Sweet Sorrow. I've also been enjoying Likely Suspect a fair amount, enjoying it, and not feeling the urge to just revert back to Plug One and Cartesian. And I'm only just now starting to explore the raid, so I still have all those guns to look forward to. To each their own. I see his point about abilities becoming very prominent. We'll see how things adjust when the artifact mods aren't so geared to Void 3.0. Also when GMs drop.

About rebalancing and difficulty: It feels very evident that Void 3.0 and Legendary difficulty are just the beginning of how they're going to address PvE balancing, and they left all the legacy stuff in the game that doesn't really work because of how stripped out the game would be if they vaulted it. Just like at other points in this game's history, there is stuff that really works, and stuff that really doesn't, and we're hoping they take the right advice from the community to untap this game's potential.
@Lephys
2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it seems to now be a large chunk of your daily gameplay experience that's made up of stuff that doesn't really work. :( I feel like the focus of Destiny 2's development has been too heavy on *new* stuff at the cost of the ever-piling-up "Oh yeah, that's older content, but it's okay because one day we'll rework that" broken stuff. Reminds me of my college campus, which kept building new buildings and eliminating parking lots, then repurposing student parking as faculty parking until student parking became an absolute nightmare... all because "We'll add some parking later! :D". Sure, the campus is great, but you *literally* could not park within 3 blocks of the campus at times. That's what Destiny 2 feels like. I cannot comprehend why, even as a first-pass, they constantly implement systems that *go against everything else in the game in so many ways* from the get-go (such as weapon-crafting pretty much negating most drops, or Void 3.0 rendering most of the gameplay choices/options/challenges moot).

Regarding Bungie changing difficulty and modes like Gambit from the ground up, Bungie seems to be extremely busy as Lightfall and The Final Shape, arguably their most ambitious expansions, are coming soon. As a result, I don’t think we’ll be seeing a complete rework of difficulty and games modes until after the dark and light saga has concluded. When the devs have much less to work on. Things may not be as cluttered, giving them more time to redefine these old game modes. Online games just don’t have the luxury of having the time to go back and tweak old aspects of the game. They need to make new, fresh content to keep people playing.

While I am absolutely in love with the power fantasy that void 3.0 gives me, I have zero argument against the idea that it's too powerful. I have to imagine once all the 3.0 subclasses are out and we've played with them for a bit, they'll get nerfed hard in time for the next expansion. Which, considering the expansion is called Lightfall, actually makes narrative sense as well as game play sense

@Mike322161
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I didn’t agree exactly with what was said in the video. Void 3.0 is supposed to be the new big fun thing people paid to use. It’s definitely an overpowered fantasy that needs a nerf eventually though. The part about no one playing other subclasses feels wrong but also makes sense. It’s wrong because there are definitely people on stasis titans rocking the crap out of things in pve faster than someone on a void subclass holding the trigger on a funnel web going “brrrrr.” People who have a build established on stasis don’t need the new void subclass rework. Then there’s the artifact contributing to most of the reasons why things are op. Volatile rounds is basically free when you use one of the many ways to make wells. It makes sense no one wants to play the other classes because they’re not as cool atm, or got a nerf to make room for void. An example being duskfield grenades no longer pulling things so that void vortex grenades could do it instead. Everything that comes out will be op, and nerfed hard like you said. I think volatile rounds will get a shortened timer to work with, and the more popular grenades will get a nerf to their cooldown rate because of the kill potential. I’m running 50 discipline and I get my grenade back very quickly because of orb mods and wells filling it back up all the time. When volatile rounds can no longer be used through wells, people will have to spec into discipline.
@clarkwilson9520
2 жыл бұрын
@@Mike322161 about the volitile rounds timer change you mentioned, the volitile flow mod is like 17 seconds and the fragment is like 8 so it'll get halfed when the season ends. But even then there are build in ways at least on void titan/warlock to have nearly constant grenades anyway Stasis and void are about equal rights now, which was Bungies aim. They said they want Stasis/Void to feel much more powerful than Arc/Solar and they very much accomplished that
@XDarkEcho
2 жыл бұрын
Why must everything get nerfed, instead of just upping the power of enemies/content? That's the problem with a lot of games that do these "balances", instead of putting in the time to adjust other stuff to be on par with what's fairly strong or "broken" in some cases, they just nerf the thing into the ground, thus ruining it for many other players who may have been using whatever was considered too strong at that time. I really think nerfing stuff is just not the best solution, in the long run at least, it'll cause more problems than fix them, as we've seen plenty of times in Destiny lifespan. As Skill Up mentioned, just make the enemies a tad more tougher so they don't die in a second, but not to make them bullet sponges. The great thing about Destiny, is that power fantasy; take that away to keep things "balanced" will just anger the playerbase.

I had a co-worker ask me how good the witch queen was and the description I landed on, was that it is one of the best, worst things to happen to destiny in a very long time. The borderline master stroke that is the legendary campaign paints the flaws inherent in the rest of the game in such sharp contrast that they can no longer be ignored or glossed over. The story on offer is by far my favourite that bungie has told, meaningful set pieces, pulse pounding encounters, all of it is easily the best work that bungie has done yet and they should be roundly celebrated for what they have built. After the high however comes the crash, the genuine gut punch of disappointment when you finish the legendary campaign (let your heart rate come back down) and take a crack at one of the new lost sectors on legendary. Only to find the holy trinity of uninspired difficulty scaling... match game, locked load out, champions. I know it is unreasonable to expect bungie to overhaul the whole game AND build this expansion, but it is my sincere hope that they will see the unrelenting praise being heaped upon the legendary campaign and going forward use that model as they tweak old content, and build new mountains for guardians to climb.

I miss heroic strikes as well, and just removing champs from 1550 NFs and making them rotate through every strike would add so much longevity to playing. @@yaboijebus1418 I think you're more correct than you know... the feel is definitely moving towards Japanese gaming staples where power is indicated by a ton of flashy effects on the screen and 100 hit combos. Thing is, though, Western values are mostly the opposite...we equate power with 1-shot or quick kills. So it's like they split the difference with 1 shot/explosive effects but adding so many enemies we get distracted by all the pretty lights and become convinced we're badasses. But throwing a Void grenade at a spawning group and watching then all explode doesn't make us badasses.

Personally, as someone whose always been shouting my praises for the worldbuilding and narrative of Destiny, the past year of content and this expansion are genuinely some of my favourite pieces of media. Those 7 years of, essentially, villain of the week storytelling without real cohesion, while having its high points, never really hit those beats you really need hit from a Bungie game (beyond a few lines from Cayde and Uldren and that ONE line from Speaker). The seasonal stuff since Shadowkeep properly building us up for the Pyramids, only to be knocked down by Beyond Light, following into Osiris's replacement by Savathun, closing off some lingering story threads and then the events of WQ itself, never mind the amount of lore and set-up we've gotten now for the Witness and their Disciples... we've finally an idea of how this story might end. I do agree to an extent with the insane power of Void 3.0 and the core playlists are 2 years overdue an overhaul (though adding the Battlegrounds to the Strike playlist is a good idea imo), but with how we're finally on the road to the grand conclusion to this space opera, to me, the rest is confetti.

The story for this expansion is just...poor. It's like a junior high writing project. It's nonsensical. It's unbelievable. It's outlandish. I cringed through each and every cutscene, especially the "twist" that was given to Savathun through the other memory collected. I got up and turned my Series X off and chuckled at how awful I felt about the story, and then wept bitterly at how well this farce was received.

I agree that Shadowkeep's story was finished by Worthy and Arrivals. I actually think Shadowkeep needs Arrivals and Worthy to complete the story. Those are my two favorite seasons (with Splicer being the third). I thought Beyond Light's seasons were coherent with each other, but not coherent with Beyond Light. So, my hope for Destiny going forward is to be more like Shadowkeep's continuing narrative. I personally dislike seasons, but I think Shadowkeep showed the story-value of seasons. I'm not sure Beyond Light did, but Witch Queen may be another chance at that.

Just a quick comment on power level: I'm still not convinced the game needs it. You can have easy enemies, like in strikes or patrol zones. And you can have harder hitting enemies in Gambit, and even harder hitting enemies in the old dungeons. Want to know what all these activities have in common? They have the "same" power level, and one can easily note that in Gambit or the dungeons the enemies will punish your mistakes regardless of your level. But this is where my point comes from: there is a way to tune difficulty without power level and it's already in the game. You don't need to just increase the power level of enemies when you can make them hit harder and live longer or adopt more aggressive tactics. I really think Destiny 2 would be better if there were "difficulty levels" that basically reflect the challenge independent of your power level. Stats will still matter, like on your armor and weapons, but really the power level is irrelevant. The tiers are already basically: Patrols, campaign and strikes are "easy". Gambit is "normal". Dungeons and legendary campaign is "hard". Raids are "very hard" or "expert". Ditto nightfall strikes. Anyway, it's unlikely to change, but there is an argument for getting rid of power level and focusing on stats and difficulty.

However, the new player experience is so utterly confusing, both in terms of lore and missing content that its hard to recommend to people who don’t have any experience with the franchise before, even for those who may have missed a year or so. My how destiny has changed. I played d1 when it was in beta and up till forsaken. Like, played religiously. I have missed a few expansions. Got into D2, missed a few expansions and recently coming back to the Witch Queen. I bought it for my 7 year old son. Who plays on my old xbox. Which has all the expansions I had previously purchased. I bought it for myself, now I’m pc. It’s the only expansion I can play. I would have to rebuy all the expansions, which seems odd to me. I have partially played through quests I can’t finish and exotic weapons only obtainable having owned earlier expansions. So whatever, I dropped $80 total for witch queen for my son and myself to play. This will be great, and it has. We beat the story and had some laughs. Mind you he’s 7. He has a good grasp on light level and how the game works, traversing the UI. Now I was like that was great, we played the story and did some strikes… but as I recall many times during our play through and it saddens me as a old destiny dad… the struggles and sense of reward of beating the old content was some of the greatest gaming moments I’ve had with a franchise, only to hear my son yelling repeatedly “This is so easy!!! Omg Everything sooo easy !!!” Haha, he loves destiny. It’s fun too play. Maybe it was too hard he wouldn’t of played and that $80 would of been a waste. Maybe this is what bungie is going for. This heightened power level. Help draw in a new audience, the younger kids these days don’t want a game that will beat them into the ground, especially a game like destiny with multiple systems to learn. But, I agree with a lot of your talking points. Most of the content does feel mindless. I’m not going into a vanguard strike thinking “man I hope I can beat this”. I’m going into the mindset of how fast can I burn through this and the next 2 so I can earn my power gear drop. the game has changed. I hope bungie can curve the difficulty up more for more skilled guardians. But right now, my 7 year old son feels like a god and slays everything in his way

I think the reason void feels so insane right now in normal content to the point where it’s “too easy” it it ends up kind of playing itself compared to the other classes. As a warlock, playing other non void classes I still have to adhere to basic fps rules. I need to take cover when weak, aim for headshots, use my special ammo and heavy ammo on tougher targets, etc. With void it feels like i breathe in an enemies direction and they die and everything around them dies or takes a bunch of damage and i’m getting full health back with every kill. It was fun for a while, but ultimately i got bored with it pretty fast, and when switching off to something else it feels like I can’t keep up with my friends who are killing entire groups of mobs in a blink of an eye and there’s nothing else for me to even shoot at to get my own build rolling.

Speaking as a veteran myself, this is especially my concern really, far more than the overuse of champions lately or the PvP (though I am never really fond of the latter in the first place). Getting people to get behind the Destiny universe has been a huge problem as far back as launch day of Destiny 1 since our own story is all over the place and hardly explained anything (never forget the Grimoire). Even after The Taken King, we still had to look into an external online archive just to understand the bigger picture. Nowadays, we are entering a similar problem, except it is because the in-game stories are now vaulted - with no guarantee of re-entering the game. Pardon the lore dumps, but how can a player emphasis with the impact of Cayde's death if they never seen it themselves, let alone why he was a fan-favourite to begin with? How can they realise the larger story of our alliances with the Fallen and the Cabal if they never followed the stories of Seasons of the Splicer and Chosen (and soon Risen) respectively? How can a new player realise how long and deep Savathun had played the Guardians if they had not directly followed the seasonal stories last year? In fact, I would argue that the seasons of Beyond Light are necessary to understand anything in The Witch Queen, as they serve as a prologue to this tale. And these are now vaulted too. I cannot describe how much I appreciate the works of My Name is Byf, the Ishtar Collective and other archives in explaining and preserving the stories by words alone. But new players like you will certainly benefit more if you actually played it yourselves.

I do not want everything to feel like legend or master, because I don't have the time for it and this is coming from someone who loves the game.

I agree with almost everything in this review, I thought I was the only one who didn't like the power creep and how some of the strikes are too easy, I don't understand why people ranked those strikes the highest on their tierlists when all they do is speedrun to the end and instantly kill the boss. I just want to shoot things and have fun which battlegrounds does nicely since there is more enemies for everyone to shoot and kill. They need to either make enemies more numerable in those missions or make them buffer since it isn't playable like you said

Destiny 2 has always kind of been the one that got away for me. Played it on launch, then took a break until Forsaken pulled me back in. After Forsaken I moved on to other games at the time, right about when the switch was made to the whole seasonal model. Ever since then I've occasionally looked at possibly jumping back in, only to find out there was such a mountain of power creep and progression that I hadn't been a part of, with no real catch-up mechanics to help get you up to speed with not only the power progression but also the story that has been going on. The lore was always one of the most exciting parts of playing Destiny for me, and seeing so much of it just disappear from the game is just so disheartening to see. Don't think I'll ever actually jump back in, since both my friends who I played with at the time and myself as well have mostly moved on to other, equally time consuming games, but I'll always feel that little tug at my heartstrings every time I see stuff like this video come around.

As a new player, the thing that stands out in this video for me is the lack of ability to queue for higher level dungeon playlist via vanguard. Once I outgrew the standard vanguard strike playlist it was like "Okay......now what?". And so far it seems the answer to that questions is: trawl discord chats to group with people. It took me one weekend of play before the game no longer had in-game matchmaking for the content I was doing.

The end of this video hits very hard for me. I started playing in season 15, and everything you said is right on the money. I had to speedrun Forsaken because I was so busy grinding all season long that I gave myself only a week to play it before it was removed. Mod buying and build crafting for new players is ridiculously hard, not to mention the literal heartbreaking reality of never being able to play any of the formative content in terms of raids or strikes that has been vaulted. I LOVE Destiny, I've put in 800 hours since August, and I will continue to play the game, but I think the camel's back is going to break at some point. If they ever get to the point where they start sunsetting Beyond Light, my very first campaign, I think that's when I decide to dip out on Destiny. If they cannot figure out a solution to this in the next few years, they've entirely failed to serve both new players and their most hardcore audience at the same time.

I'd love to try more guns, but Champions lock me into a specific number of guns and one of them is glaives, which right now only has 3 options across each character. If we want to bump the difficulty, the champs need to be relinquished a bit. Legendary campaign was great, but as soon as champs are included, guess I'm back to focusing on one of a handful of guns. It was fine for a year or two, but I've grown tired of it. Make things a bit meatier and lessen the champs, especially since they love to be placed in places where people can skip them. That and can hamper rewards in activities such as the weekly mission and PsiOps where you can accidentally miss theme entirely. That and no matter how rare I find people love gambit, it's also an activity that tends to be on the lower end of engagement. While people try to defend it, the name never matches what the gamemode is. There's no gambit for invading, since 3 people tend to be enough to kill ads and deposit motes, hell sometimes you're fighting over motes. That and bosses in gambit having their health restore an immunity phase due to an invader prolongues the gamemode. At this point, I'd rather gambit be based on the tie breaker phase from way back where it's two teams trying to gun down the boss with ads acting as defense and being key to killing the boss. Gunplay, abilities, and if they want to keep the invader: make the invader take over as the envoy while present, so that people have to engage with them. Crucible needs new modes and maps, which hopefully starts coming down the pipeline. Strikes and general pve go back to the champs, because until champs are reduced in high-end, then rather unlikely to see a change in health (which for a long time was funny considering people complained about gun damage, but we're now too overturned on abilities). Regarding Void 3.0: I like it, but let me stress this by bring up that Titans already had this type of system with Solar builds and especially warminds. We're seeing the warmind builds, but baked into Void subclasses, though doesn't help that every class can proc volatile rounds with a void well (which you can blame on reaping well mods on how dead easy it is for every class to do, even while not on a void subclass). Now, why mention solar titans? Ticuu's basically does this on a sunspot titan for a long time and warminds only further this. The reason why it's so prevalent now is that Void 3.0 dropped much like Stasis had, but everyone has access to it. This will continue to pop up every season with artifact mods encitivising you to use the preferred subclass. Solar has one mod on the slate, but at the same time: it's for melees while void gets a grenade one, which both titans and warlocks are designed to do at base and hunters can do if with a lil' more work. Why I'd want Arc next, since solar subclasses still see play (warlocks have a great pvp solar class and well, while titans and hunters have ability builds). Arc suffers greatly, since titans only have one good super and the other one is a niche melee build, while hunters have 3 subclasses with the same super that does slightly different things. Warlocks at least can pass, but would still greatly benefit more than a solar rework. All in all, not exactly agreeing 100%, but definitely feel where you're coming from and applaud the honesty. Legendary campaign will eventually be sunset, but 3 years by now is also when we'd be seeing D2's last campaign if I'm recalling correctly. Possibly by then, it may be about then we start to hear where D3 is going to be as well.

Champions made me stop playing honestly. Legend campaign was great, and it didn't even have champions... So going back to the normal game, I thought it would be okay. I was going to level up my power level, and then tackle those champions so I can farm lost sectors for the new exotics and play with the weapons I want. But like... once I thought about it, I realized I can't have this. Once I get to 1550, I can do legend lost sectors. But to do those missions, I have use weapons I don't want to use. And then after I get what I want, I can play higher level 1550 content... But the ones that give you decent rewards have champion's... So I still can't use weapons that I want to use. I mostly run with the Forerunner and a shotgun just because I like how it feels, but because of the artifact mods and champions... I can't play the way I like anymore. After that thinking, I realized I didn't want to play anymore.

That's the problem though. Bungie in an interview said that they made the dlc targeting the audience who has been invested in the story of Destiny ever since the first game or picking up D2 back in 2017. There's so much backstory and lore that is needed to be explained to a new player just to hep them understand why we're trying to take down the Witch Queen in the first place it's too much to explain. Most of the reviews I've seen praising this DLC saying it's been on par with the likes of the Taken King and Forsaken are from people who have been playing this game since the beginning.

One of the things I REALLY wanted to see since the pre D1 release, was an actual reason to explore these areas/planets/etc. Give us side quests, or hidden rituals that can only be found by exploring, flesh out these patrol areas. Now while the Throne world is beautiful and unique, probably my favorite area to explore out of all D2 (Dreadnought still remains top of my list because of the side quests and activities...although I do not miss the steps require for Touch of Malice). But the area just gets so boring. I do like the idea of enemies being weak in patrols since its just that, patrols. But a larger group of them would be nice . Full squads or random high ranking enemies found by exploring and dropping exclusive loot would flesh these areas out completely. Or even a Legendary Patrol with immense danger that if you complete objects, unlocks new fast travels or areas. Coming from Elden Ring and a major From soft fan, the world of Elden ring was done perfectly to make me want to continue exploring every inch or area, landmarks throughout enticing me to explore. Landmarks in Destiny are solely locked behind missions. There's no reason to explore them or nothing to gain, and I'm also one of those people who HATE fetch quests or side quests counting as "collect these hidden items". Its fun to find these throughout, and I think the moths are rather fun to find especially when locked behind puzzles...But that's the only relatively open world side quest in Destiny. The weapon crafting has both been good, and bad for me. Its fun building new weapons and testing them out to get their blueprints, but I hate the grind to acquire the material just to alter the crafted weapon. Especially when unlocking all the possible attachments for it. I dislike the rarity of the new Alloy and the required number to alter weapons and exotics especially, I had to hoard it all to craft the Striga catalyst, but what I dislike the most, is relying on RNG to drop a weapon I need for a specific quest, and the drop isn't even guaranteed to drop the deepsight to possibly unlock the pattern (I think its about 2-3 weapons). This is a grind I dislike, and although it might not be as bad at the Stasis aspects or Fragments from Beyond Light, it definitely doesn't motivate me to try and farm the same gamemode for hours on end. Still plenty of opportunity for Destiny to grow and I definitely enjoyed my time with Witch Queen so far, still have to try the raid for myself but so far, its improved on a lot of areas that might overtake Taken King as the premiere expansion...Plus Osteo Striga is my new found best friend until they (maybe) bring back Necrochasm and Touch of Malice (please?).

By putting Forsaken in the DCV, bungie has removed, symbolically and narratively, Destiny 2’s most important moments. I think your review is actually the consensus. MarcoStyle's review is quite similar - great campaign, story and lore, and the legendary campaign is amazing. Weapon crafting show promise (although like everything else it's introduced as way too grindy and will no doubt be reworked). However, it still has the same old problems with Gambit, Crucible and Strikes. Bungie is still content vaulting stuff. And there is still a general problem with the power level grind, which I have argued many times doesn't even need to be in the game. Enemies are either no threat at all or its a boss - there is no middle level enemies. I sat this expansion out because after 1300 hours of Destiny 2 (and 350 in Destiny 1), I just didn't have it in me to do the same grind multi-seasonal grind all over again. I won't pay just for a campaign, and the underlying issues keep me away from the game.

@@John_II beyond light was a rough campaign, it really was. I would go so far as saying I preferred Shadowkeep over it. But witch queen is a totally different animal. Like shillup said, there's no filler here. I will say, if you're an experienced D2 player and you have decent kit, start with legendary (and maybe start solo). It scales difficulty on fireteam size, and with three it can be quite difficult. Solo is a good challenge, one you'll want to come back to for all three classes. It's not halo legendary hard, more like a long series of solo legend lost sectors (without match game and champions).

I agree the lack of matchmaking is the main gripe. Having to use community discords to get groups is ridiculous. Everything but MAYBE the 6 man raids should have matchmaking, hands down. As a returning player the lack of a mods vendor is annoyin the s*it outta me. I can't use any of the meta builds, and there's absolutely nothing I can do to influence this. If I'm unlucky I could end up NEVER getting these. I dont really get the whining about Gambit. I enjoy it just fine, even though I preferred the old Gambit Prime.

I feel like I just sat through a graduate level thesis on Destiny 2. Heck of a video, the hard work that you and Austin put into it is evident.

Witch Queen is definitely one of the best expansion of destiny. Sure as always, Destiny has its issues. Champians need fixing, 3-6 seasonal activities feel a bit stale, Crucible needs attention, Strikes need to be revamped (pls just give point systems, skeleton keys and strike exclusive loot in normal Playlist again bungie) and many more. However, Destiny 2 is definitely good. Wouldn't know if I would reccomend it to anyone cuz of the DLC's but I really love destiny right now and if ur a destiny player, ur experiencing one of the best ages of destiny

I once kept thinking about a pvp mode that would have more mainstream mechanics, like a preset of weapons to buy, like we have in CS:GO and Valorant, as you play round you get economy and buy weapons all the way to a preset of exotics, maps would have different weapons... I would love to see a revamp on crucible.

Bro. You by far, are the best reviewer I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. You are honest, open-minded, respectful, thoughtful and have a wealth of experience in and out of D2 to draw from. I think you are a huge asset to our gaming community and every time you make a thoughtful comment about Destiny in particular, there is nothing I disagree with. I can tell you love this game, are super passionate about it's success and potential, and you just understand where it can go but without fail, Bungie always seems to veer off what it could be. I think expectations to Destiny have become so high over time, that it will never live up to expectation, but sucks when it always feels like they miss the mark in so many obvious ways and you wonder how a studio with all this experience and skill can keep missing the mark. I believe you probably feel the same, but still love the core gameplay and will always support it like the rest of us. Keep up the great work man, I really value you in our community. Thanks for taking your time to create these video's, thanks for your passion. I appreciate all your hard work and love for the genre. James.

Only 5 mins into the review and I have the exact same thoughts. I loved the campaign and I wanted to play more but as soon as it’s done it’s back to the same old activities that I’m burnout at doing. The game is undoubtedly getting ‘better’ but imo the last year has been a QoL improvement year and I think the game is now in desperate need of some innovation especially when it comes the core playlists front. The seasonal model also needs to evolve. The story is fantastic but I’m bored of a similar seasonal activity every season. I think this activity needs to evolve and I also think every other season should be a core playlist focused season. Core playlists should be the most replayable activities in the game but I dread having to do any of them at this point.

I think this take is actually spot on. I LOVED the legendary campaign, and the way it made me feel like I could rely on both my abilities and my weapons, but I couldn't just yeet around or I would die. I actually got super bored and haven't been playing much after finishing the campaign because it was so good I just can't bring myself to play a strike.

I think gambit desperately needs a gambit labs similar to crucible labs where they can test outlandish changes like just straight up removing heavy ammo and seeing the response. A full season of that plus a likely very controversial second gambit focused season could legit save it make it a true third core activity

History will look very kindly on your Destiny reviews Skill Up and team; I think you've hit it out of the park with just about everything said here. Ironically enough, I think we could realistically see a scaling backtrack by Bungie to having selectable daybreak/normal/nightfall difficulty in orbit for just about everything, with our current strike tuning being the "daybreak" example from d1, the legend difficulty campaign or a bit below it set as the standard for normal content going forward, and nightfall sticking to that GM formula that seems to have everything under control. I pray that Witch Queen's campaign was as easy as a power slider, because if that's the case this is actually a VERY doable request on top of fixing/revamping the core systems. Although I doubt Bungie would do this because it wouldn't make money, I can also foresee a Siege-esque season of the Health, making all of these changes and giving the team the necessary time to just MAKE MAPS and play catch-up with game balance in Crucible and Gambit. As per usual with Destiny, we're always so close to making it all work out and I just wanna see it come together before the final shape, not after it.

Destiny has changed a lot over the years and I think that in a lot of ways it is at its best right now. For the first time ever starting last year, I can actually craft a build and when I play content with random players, I see lots of people doing different things with their subclasses, mods, and exotics. Destiny also has an actual story now that is presented in game with cutscenes and VO. The seasonal content has also been delivering such that every few months there's something significant to look forward to, in terms of new weapons and exotics, cut scenes, and interesting activities (ex. Presage and Prophecy). I do agree that the legendary campaign difficulty should become the new base, and champions should be redesigned. But I like the power, customization, story, and wealth of new content.
