@rashelreyes1880
3 жыл бұрын
@Alessandra keith Miguel Oh yeah definitely I don’t think you ruined your voice it’s possible that when you were a child you had a higher voice so high notes were much easier than lower notes but as you get older your voice tends to become deeper . Especially, if you are a male it’s known that when you are a tenor( highest voice for a male ) as a child you usually become a baritone ( the voice in the middle for the male ) or a Bass ( the lowest voice for a male ) and if you are a bass or baritone as a child you usually become a tenor as your voice matures so , really it’s nothing worry about it’s just how your voice is just make sure to not force your voice too much

Hey Doc, I'm 17 and I've had a mildly "croaky" voice from the time I was 13 and began to experience pitch drop from puberty. I can hit very low notes now, but it isn't my preferred octave and I've essentially exhausted my voice into speaking and singing higher to accommodate those who couldn't hear me as easily or weren't impressed with my low notes. I'm interested in pursuing a singing career but I'm not sure whether I've had nodes for a long time without realizing it or whether this "croakiness" can simply be described as a unique quality of my voice. Lots of vibrato, if I sing a low note loudly people can feel the vibrations, but I'm unsure of whether I'm just singing incorrectly because I don't know about how I'm supposed to be singing for my voice. My question to you is, do you think my voice could be like this without nodes? If I'm singing incorrectly, is there any way to achieve higher notes or octaves without damaging my voice? Thanks, Doc.

It is. But let me put it this way: If you are aiming for a contemporary career AND you are a beginner: Spend your first THREE YEARS with classical training, classical singing is very good at showing what needs to be developed after 3 years or 4(if you practice regularly) you learn to know your voice and could go on with different paths and techniques because you have a solid base.

Choosing the right vocal coach is huge. I've had three. Two were practically useless, and one was a genius. If you aren't noticeably better after four lessons or one month (at least, as a beginner, which is what I was with all three teachers), you should immediately find another teacher. Just my two cents. In case anyone is curious, one of the things that distinguished the genius is that she was acutely aware of the effect of the ENTIRE BODY on the voice, not just the throat, mouth cavity, lungs, etc., like many teachers seem to be.

I have no vocal issues for the moment, but I'm worried my routines might have an impact in the future. See, I do vocal exercises at least 5 days in a week, and after like 30 minutes my vocal folds tend to swell up (making a "gurgly" sound). Of course singing at that point will hurt my voice, so I take a break doing some cord thinning exercises and eventually my voice sounds fine again. Now my concern is: will continuing singing at this point (although my voice do sound godd at the moment) hurt my voice anyway? Should I just stop singing for the rest of the day?

Like you, I felt I was doing okay.....but in the studio, listening to the playback, I sounded like I had no energy! Yes, a good mic is important, and of course a good engineer.....but studio recording requires really pulling your voice out, being in 'the flow' and as Dr. Dan suggests, taking care of your voice. Milk will cause mucus, peppermint tea is not good, not good to drink alcohol. There is another vocal coach on KZitem that I think is really good, Eric Arcenaux. I feel like your mentioning of the wrong training applies to me. I think choir kinda messed up my voice a bit. I sing in order to blend now and my solos aren't as strong

You can develop both skills - singing for ensemble and for solo. You'll need to be intentional with both skills.

Hey Dr. Dan, I have a friend who LOVES to sing, but she also smokes cigarettes. I've been trying to help her quit because she told me that if she couldn't sing anymore that she would probably need therapy. She loves it that much. Even though I want to help her, I know she is incredibly bullheaded, and my problem is, is there anything I could point to that would be super convincing to get her to quit? I would just hate for her to lose the ability to sing because of something totally preventable, and I'm fairly close with her. Is there a video of yours I can point to and share with her? Thanks in advance for your help. :)

+Dr Dan's Voice Essentials Thank you so much! I guess I'll share this video with her then, since you mention it here. That's what made me think of the question. :) And I love to sing as well. :) It's something I definitely want to keep for a lifetime.

Is vaporizing E-liquid worse then smoking ciggarettes when it comes to the voice box? Or are they indifferent? I'm trying to quit smoking with a temporary vaporizer, but I'm not sure about how healthy that is.

I just really want to find singers in my vocal range for example... Issue is, I'm a bass, and not a fan of classical. It seems to be either Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, or southern gospel. Cohen and Cash aren't even really that good singers. If anyone has recommendations in the bass/baritone range, I would really appreciate it

I love how you completely put emphasis on how rock should not be learned from classical techniques. I know heaps of people who keep denying this and actually went off for classical lessons, spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars and not being able to directly apply it to their genre. Sadly, they got issues with their throat and terrible tension in their larynx because of it. People think that contemporary voice lessons won't give them the desired range, power and endurance with their voice and sadly, that is not the truth.

Do Not "Don't clear your throat" actually means Clearing your throat is a good thing. But the video clearly says clearing the throat is a bad idea. THE TITLE needs to change. Remove the "Dont" and just say "Clear your throat". It's the double negative problem. Thanks for laying them out tho. It's great to know what not to do. Thanks Dr Dan.

As a vocal coach and singer for 35+ yrs I DISAGREE exercising out of genre will damage the voice. As long as you're not singing OUT OF RANGE. Most athletes are now given dance routines which improve their flow in performance.

Hi Dan! Thanks for all your work and the sharing :-) I have a question: how does bad or not enough sleep affect our vioce? I am curious because the last two weeks i have bad sleep. I feel that my throat is straining even when i sing in a comfortable range.

MY LOWEST NOTE IS G2 but it can down to A2 is sounds breathy and unsupported my highest note is A3 up to G4.. i attempt to reach G6 but i strained. i love to sing songs by the female singers. most of their range is D3 - G#5 / D3 - C6 my troath easily pains when i'm singin. I also sound breathy and very nasal from head/chest voice i also sound breathy. that's why i'd change my technique these past few weeks. i only reach A4. to avoid tension.

There are those who smoke, drink beer and sing good during Karaoke. I am sensitive to harsh noises, smoke, etc.. and had to stop singing there. Only one time I was at a Sport Cafe here in the Netherlands next to Gold's Gym. It's all about smoking, drinking and shouting for some folks. Since last year summer I am a steady singer in a Jam Session Band and there is no smoking inside.

At the moment I have faringitis caused by a viral infection, but unfortunately I had to sing for a really important audition at my local music university which I couldn't cancel. Does that mean I damaged my voice or that I could be potentially doing so?

I'm a 25 y/o female but through the past 2 years my voice is getting lower and lower. I didn't quite lose the high notes but I started sounding richer and darker in the lower registers and gained a few lower notes. Is this a normal thing or have I been damaging my voice without noticing?

I remember in December last year, me and the band had our first support slot concert, we'd always been an opening act but that night we were making the leap from opener to support and as fuck's law would have it, I had a chest infection, cause why not, right? LOL anyway, the band name was on the poster, it was a week before the concert and there were only three bands in total playing that night, including us, so cancelling wasn't so much out of the question but I certainly didn't wanna let people down, so I sang from low to mid range and, somehow (and I don't know how), managed to perform that night and put on a pretty good show, considering. As far as ever doing that again, though, no, I wouldn't, I had nearly 4 months afterward where I couldn't sing and it was a long recovery process, so if that ever happens again, I'll be resting, not singing
