I actually liked Herman Caine's 9/9/9 plan for 9% sales, 9% income, 9% business tax with no waivers or loopholes. I'd even go one step further to make it 10/10/10. Literally all of your taxes are moving your gross income's decimal point one space to the left, and that's all the taxes you have to do for that element of your taxes. The 9/9/9 plan, is actually what the default tax rates were for the game Sim City back in the 90s. You can always adjust the rates up and down a bit too if you need more or less cash, but the government, lawyers, bankers, and accountants want the tax code to be Byzantine.

A couple of things you've omitted are: one. Companies often choose their location based on the average wage.two: wages are based most of the time on the average wage other businesses are willing to pay - not on the values of the services provided. When EVERY business pays the same there is a limited option for local workers, especially if for one reason or another they can't relocate. No I don't buy into the "equity" theory but if people really want to talk about these issues realistically, they have to admit it's not all the employees fault. Also employment opportunities for all ty]es of jobs do not exist the same in all areas.

I have a question about not buying the from local business over the foreign business in matters of companies manufacturing. I'm @ 1:07.37, so they might discuss the livable wage point so I'll come back and edit this if they answer it. My primary concern is that foreign goods are cheaper or more expensive depending on the quality or the costs in developing the products (those costs could be divided into the 1: workers' wages, 2: any business expenses from development and distribution, and 3: the company's taxes and charges as were discussed before). I'm still learning about the development of costs in production so my understanding might be incomplete in terms of production in different countries. TL:DR: If two goods are equal in so far as their innate quality differences are negligible, but their prices are different, one foreign but cheaper, one domestic but slightly more expensive but not enough to price it outside of the budget for the product required, and there is no hugely immoral component to either, then I think you should buy the domestic over the foreign. Because depending on the industry we want to develop the competition of our products at least to compete at least domestically if not internationally. long version: Granted you need some diversity of location in who is producing the products. E.G. if America hypothetically didn't have oil at all or enough to where is made appreciable impact, then it would be foolish to waste time trying to start that industry here in order to make jobs or start an industry because it would get dwarfed by already existing industries in other countries. That makes sense to me. However, if a domestic and foreign company were making hammers (as was used in the Walmart example for instance), and all things in quality were equal, then should you buy the USA manufactured one or the foreign? I think he's right to say not necessarily, because you should take other factors into consideration. As he points out whichever one is being immoral clearly shouldn't be supported. Cost: Can I actually afford that or as Nick says, and I agree with this to the extent of 'if you can't buy it at the time then that's it, it's out of the competition for your dollar if time is a factor preventing you from saving the money required'. Now if the quality of both is equal, or close enough that neither are measurably better than the opponent, then the quality $ cost from production isn't a factor because the production cost isn't the issue. If both processes are exactly the same to the micromanaged absolute same, then the cost isn't coming from that. And even if the more expensive hammer's production is only slightly less efficient, then it's still not depreciating the hammer enough to increase the cost overall or enough to price it out. So, the remaining sources of the costs are coming from the wages and the taxes because those are the distinguishing factors (because we'd have to ignore distribution because when considering that it throws the idea of foreign goods being cheaper right out for me). The domestic is somehow paying more in taxes and in wages than the foreign company, if both the production costs are equal enough. I find it difficult to believe that the foreign company is paying less in taxes than the domestic, enough to where our stereotype of domestic businesses paying more for workers' wages than foreign companies on average is still somehow cheaper overall than the domestic company's expenses. Something's not adding up about that but we're going to have to leave it for a minute. Provided that the upcharge for the domestic product isn't exorbitant, beyond what is justifiable for the product, we should freely support our countryman over foreign production because usually that domestic business brings up the quantity of manufacturing companies around it. If not, we'd have to move to where that foreign company is for more work and we'd have to abandon the trades that could have been built near or semi-near domestic company. Additionally, and this is my biggest concern, if people here don't build industries in things that they could compete in even if they lose the larger competition, then we lose the ability to produce those goods to a foreign power. How many trade jobs are we losing to overseas production because we have to charge a bit more for the goods we should just make ourselves anyway? That's ignoring the ideological differences of us vs foreign businesses or even the ethical questions of how much workers should be paid by the companies, and taking those into account gives even stronger reasons to buy domestic made goods. Like a previous episode where Nick and co. brought up the Conservatives just making bad products and slapping 'conservatism' or a 'traditional values' sticker and overcharging is a scam in the same way saying USA made and overcharging for a worse product would be. However, we then brought on that Texan meat company that makes good products (at what I'm assuming is at higher costs than the foreign made meats as was the subject of that episode), and we want to support that because we want the better quality and to have it be locally made still matters for our overall betterment than foreign made but cheaper and would meet the basic NEED requirement. I'm not pointing this out as any sort of got you, because I don't think the intention of the discussion isn't we shouldn't buy local only BECAUSE it's local, and the focus is primarily about the taxes and costs etc. but I'm concerned we missed--or possibly I missed--the point that we need to get our people working, even if we are losing in terms of the domestic upcharge at the supermarket. Even if that's true we need to keep how to make stuff local because we can't afford to lose that on a global scale. We shouldn't excuse mediocrity in our production capabilities, but I don't think it's wise to not purchase domestic products if the only difference is cost. That said I don't want forced purchasing of domestic goods of course, that also kills competition, and would result in our own products becoming worse. I'm going to keep listening maybe the answer will become more apparent to me in the 'living wage' point. Sorry for the long comment, I'm just trying to understand and get my thoughts on paper. Even if I get roasted for my poor thinking, I might learn something.

Sorry I'm late to the party...trying to watch all your older videos, at least the ones that are topical rather than being focused on a specific event that is no longer of immediate pertinance. A few points of contention, based on principle, that y'all either overlooked or chose not to discuss regarding taxation. Taxation of income is effectively an economic system of "soft" slavery, in that it taxes my time and productivity, both of which are ever diminishing and thus of increasing scarcity. If I make a contractual agreement to provide my time (which is mine), my labor (which is mine), my intellectual creativity (which is mine), etc, I'm taxed on a transaction which in no way involves the state. It simply profits from my existence, which is the core definition of slavery. Secondly, and you briefly touched on this, but the state requires that all taxpayers file a tax return, which is a direct violation of the 5th Amendment, since it is THE core evidence that I have or have not paid my "fair share" as the state deems appropriate. It's also forced labor, as we are forced to file said return without any form of compensation and said return is 100% compulsory. Again, slavery is illegal UNLESS the state is involved. Third, our collective private labor, intellectual property, etc, is directly responsible for enabling expenditures over which we effectively have little to no control. In other words, I'm forced to economically support, both in spirit and in deed, the abject corruption that is Washington DC. I would never willingly contribute to the gross averice and quid pro quo that's part and parcel with all the millionaires and billionaires who are such because they voted it such, or because they made a deal or a stock trade for their own personal gain thanks to publicly supplied funds. They call themselves "public servants," yet they forcibly attain the first fruits of the labor of the American people, all while those same people have to make hard choices which directly affect the survival of themselves and their families. Regarding your treatment of the Fair Tax, that's only the first step in correcting our course. The complete package entails a repeal of the 16th Amendment, a repeal of the 17th Amendment, an amendment which establishes a Fair Tax and its detailed use and percentage of each transaction, an amendment barring the existence of any federal entity which either directly controls the taxation of the people or requires the people to inform regarding their financial activities, an amendment placing a hard ceiling on how much money the federal government is allowed to spend (preferably only as much as it takes in), and an amendment banning the existence of a private regulatory bank which makes money on every dollar it prints (creates). As Nick eluded to, the income tax system is not primarily a tool for revenue generation. That's a secondary benefit. Its primary role is behavioral modification / control, a tool for direct benefit for certain political actors (aka a fleecing scheme), a gatekeeping system that keeps everyone from acceding success, and a beast which has created a system of corruption in the name of the people. Under a Fair Tax system, the revenue generation is effective and efficient, individual rights to privacy are maintained, and we the people are once again free to choose how we conduct our financial affairs based solely on personal choice, not how this or that "charitable contribution" may benefit us in "reducing" our tax obligation.

My dad told me a story from when he was in the navy back in the mid 1970s. They were preparing to deploy to southeast Asia, and his division chief told him to go out and buy supplies before they shipped out. Dad told him that they didn't really need anything except for an expensive piece of equipment that would let their radar work both on the port and starboard sides of the ship - they needed two but only had one functioning at the time and had had to switch one that worked from one station to the other - on opposite sides of the ship - during their wargame exercise earlier that month, which meant that the ship was blind on once side or the other at all times. The chief asked how much the piece would cost, laughed when dad told him it was about 20k, and said "Well, you're not getting that!". He then gave my dad about $1000 and told him to go out and spend it. When dad told him that they didn't need anything, he told him "Sailor, you're not hearing me. You have to spend this money or we won't get it next time." So, dad went out and bought a thousand dollars on office stationary (paper, staples, etc.) that they no room to store on ship and dumped overboard once they put to sea. Taxes are just legalized extortion. Change my mind.

Part of the problem is by submitting a budget that is lower than the previous years they loose that money with no chance of getting it back. So budgets for office furniture, equipment replacement etc are all kept in the requested budgets whether it is needed or not. THis is the norm, because if a department determines they do not need to replace furniture that year and remove it from the budget request for the year, they will never get that money back so when equipment needs to be replaced it can't be/won't be.

The answer is your welfare just drops off and goes away. So you're incentivized to stay below that threshold Unless somehow you can make a giant leap of like 20-30 thousand dollars all at once

So what should happen if the government fails to protect just the even the most basic rights? For example we used to have a really great railroad system which it was way way more efficient than trucks, but governments dismantled it

During the last Australian federal election the green party announced their policies which were costed. The greens said they would pay for their policy by taxing billionaires. There are about 40 billionaires in Australia their total net worth would pay for the green policies for 17 weeks

Everything is relative. A poor person doesn't pay hardly anything in income tax. A rich person pays a lot in taxes. But a poor person can barely survive. A rich person can afford it. Doesn't mean it's fair.

If there is any kind of public assistance whatsoever, it would exist even with a universal sales tax or fair tax. Unfortunately. I'm all for helping those in need, temporarily. The Welfare Class that have been trained into existence are their own worst enemy.

Roughly the lower 28% of our population doesn't pay a single bit income tax. Yes, they pay like 3 to 5k throughout the year. However, they typically get 5k to 10k in returns at the end of the year. Then, even individuals in the 33% will pay roughly 6 to 8k and will typically get 3k to 4k in returns. We are subsidizing roughly a third of the population.

Having been a long haul trucker for 30 years... little more than 4 million logged miles. I know taxes well. Highway use tax and others. Also I would like to say having responded to many disasters, general public doesn't think much about how do you finance those response efforts. Anyway... taxes are needed to build our world and support it. If that makes sense.

Christian right about quality of life. I live in rural TN and 70k is living the good life. 35k is all that's needed to survive for 1-2 people depending on how far you can stretch it. Hell, a family of 4 can survive on 50k

Buy this reasoning this point should be made. The same people who make the claim not paying their fair share are the same people who would argue that we stole the land from the indigenous people that said they are the same people who are now trying to take from people who are using resources effectively in the same way that the left took the land from the people who only took what they needed and used. So the correlation could be made that progressives are the same people who took the land from the indigenous people today and also the same people doing it today. They are the ones who want what others have worked to build and seize what others already saved so that shows that the progress they seek is progress in seizing your stuff for their use. That is the same as what happened back then. Democrats are the ones who took the land then and the goods and services now. Food for 🤔
