I love how good you are at explaining things in this video!! I’ve run into a bit of a problem though where the baseline measurements you gave don’t seem to work with my measurements I’ve taken. For example you said to divide the bust measurement by 6 and add 1.5 to fine the upper chest, then go that far from the shoulder to get it.. my chest is 46” which gives me 9.16”, and it falls exactly where the bustline was plotted in the beginning of the video. Some of the baseline measurements you give don’t seem to be “one size fits all” so I would love to see another video with how to find exact measurements. But otherwise great video you are one of my favorite channels on KZitem, you’ve taught me so much!!

It's the stsndard. Just take and use your correct measurement. Works for every body size. as long as you are using your correct measurement.
@londonrocksme1

I was wondering the same thing but I think taking front and back measurements separately then diving by two and making the front and back pieces respectively should accommodate for a larger bust. Also, darting could fix the back panels however I think there would be too much extra fabric taken in with darts to create a fitted back if using the front measurements for the back panel.

@granted558

No, they do not need to be divided by 4. They are just standard guidelines/measurements used to obtain the neckline and shoulder width. You are already working on 1/4 of the bodice, so there is no need to divide those two numbers by 4. Just use them the way she is demonstrating.

Measure from your shoulder to bust (in a straight line, so from shoulder to centre of your boob). Then straight line from shoulder to waist, and straight line from shoulder to hip. In a pattern making book I have it says measure from nape of neck, but as someone else above said it would be best from inner shoulder where it meets neck.

You needed to have also taught us how to take the vertical measurements from our shoulder to our bust, from our bust to our waste, from oue waist to hip. Because the distance between those areas is different from Woman to Woman depending on our body proportions. It is only when you mark your horizontal and vertical measurements do you get a pattern that will actually fit you specifically.

Thank you so much. This tutorial is so detailed and east to follow. I’m a new sewer and I was able to draft it and make my first garment. It wasn’t perfect but it was way better than I had imagined. I’ve seen you add facings on other projects so I did so. I now understand the need for interfacing which I didn’t have on hand. I’m so exciting to keep practicing

Try visiting other pattern making sites in KZitem. It is good to compare pattern making methods.

Thank you so much for producing these videos! They are by far the best tutorials on KZitem for explaining things to beginners such as myself. Can you please explain what you do with the darts once you transfer it onto fabric? Thanks
