Boeing planes generally the newer ones like the NGX, B744, B757 and so on and newer types of planes they produce, the thrust levers move with the change of thrust when A/T is engaged from TOGA to CLIMB and yet the pilots still have control if they want to with a couple simple clicks of the disengage button on the thrust levers. Same as Airbus in certain ways. Really love that feature. I love flying both Boeing and Airbus. Such joy to fly them.

Based on weight and balance calculation the right seat pilot will manually rotate the trim wheel to set the TO trim after enfine start flow, this is done visually and looking at the trim band on the wheel it self is precise enough, no need to go to the Flight Controls page to have a "milimetric" setting....

You can always move the levers, no matter the auto throttle state. What he did was cutting the power to idle when about to touch down. Bringing the levers to idle also turns off the A/THR... :) On the other hand, if you don't have all the conditions required to land, in the Airbus, you'll move the levers from the CLIMB detent to TOGA, also with the A/THR active.

The FLEX/MCT detent is used for a Reduced Power takeoff and if an engine fails in flight the levers should be set from CLIMB to MCT, Max Cont. Thrust. This makes more power available to the autothrust system if needed, since max CLIMB Thrust is lower than MCT. The DN0.5 is where the pitch trim wheel should be set priot to takeoff, it's related to CG (center of gravity) position and not exactly the surface angle. It's calculated on ground based on aircraft's loading.

There is no mechanical link between the A/THR and the levers it self, the A/THR computers will act straight on the engines to set power... so you are always free to move them... if forward the A/THR will be disengaged and you get TOGA at anytime. If you bring the levers towards to idle they will limit the A/THR authority up to the lever position (only an abnormal high engine temperature would require that to avoid the A/THR to exceed any engine parameter).

@baixadoetravado

i assume there is no way to manually control the thrust levers like for example in a 737 where you can spool up or down the engine power ... you have to use Auto thrust all the time ? wondered cause in every airbus video i saw the pilots are resting their hands on the levers until touchdown
@detaildr

You can fly an entire plane manually, but they use auto thrust to conserve fuel, and autopilot to keep the plane level during flight, and make slow even turns for passenger comfort. The only time they fly manually is during takeoff and landing and VFR patterns for landing.

No. If you're at TOGA for takeoff, you take it back 2 detents to CLB, if you're at FLEX for takeoff you take it back 1 detent to CLB. You don't move up unless you suddenly need the extra performance - remember, even with the ATHR engaged, if you advance the levers to TOGA the aircraft will give you TOGA power.
