so, thing with responsibility is quite difficult there. not saying the doctors are the only ones to blame, but seriously, the way you can get medication easily is, in my opinion, a medical malpractice. with other mental disorders youd have to see a doc multiple times (though you still can get meds that haven't been prescribed or get them prescribed too easily, however, it is not considered normal.) and on top of that - gender dysphoria overall is quite understudied, just like the consequences of trans medication, so it gets even worse at this point. as a cisgender person who used to have trauma and depression induced gender dysphoria (undiagnosed, though, but im pretty sure it was gender dysphoria) at a pretty young age, im actually afraid to think where id end up if i started taking meds. i turned out to be slightly gay and overall i like being feminine, but i am totally fine with being a guy. and i think it can be a pretty common case with gender dysphoria being caused by other mental struggles or traumatic events, and when youre young, you cant really tell, unfortunately. youre right, though, you shouldnt entirely shift all the responsibility onto someone else. nowadays we have to be as sceptical as possible. your responsibility is to find a good doctor, doctors responsibility is to evaluate your state properly :) another thing about meds is that its a good source of income and there are certain amounts of disgusting scumbags who take advantage of that. so not all doctors really want to help, sadly :( sometimes its better for them to hold a patient for longer so the patient brings them for money, and they might not care what happens to that person, they see tons of such everyday and get used to that.

In my experience, the opposite has been the case. Getting prescribed stimulants and SSRIs was not a convoluted process. In both cases talked to my doctor about issues/struggles I was having, we discussed, I ended up with a prescription within a few appointments. In follow up appointments, dosage was adjusted by the doctor informed largely by my reports of the effects, the side effects, and my needs. That is normal. That is how it should be. (For context, I was transitioning as a minor in the US.) For getting estradiol and blockers, that whole process took over a year. First was a lot of waiting. I had to wait for months for the waiting list to open up, I had to wait on that waiting list for months to get an initial appointment with a specialized doctor. Clinics for gender affirming care can be very hard to get appointments with these days because of increased demand combined with reduced supply due to controversy and legislative restrictions. After the first appointment there were a number of follow-ups months apart, and would be pushed a few months back if a specific specialist couldn't be present that day. I had to get a letter from a therapist I was seeing regularly, which I did not have prior to seeking trans healthcare. I can't remember it all. It took so long that honestly at the time, even though I knew they were just helping me and following standard procedures and research-based guidelines, I felt almost angry at my health providers for making me wait so long and jump through so many hoops to get the care I knew I needed. That was normal. The doctors did exactly what they should. This is the type of experience that every other young trans person I've met or heard has had, and prescribing hrt to a minor without these kinds of procedures would be medical malpractice. (Not that adults don't often end up going through a similar process.) There are some clinics that use an informed consent model where adults might end up with a prescription after one or two appointments after checking initial blood hormone levels and confirming that the patient understands and wants the changes to their body that will occur with HRT. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with this model of care for adults, though clinicians have the responsibility of ensuring the patient has the capacity to understand fully and give informed consent(and there are definitely cases where they fail to do this). Also, in the US it is illegal for doctors to profit from prescribing drugs like that, and in the UK only physicians in rural areas far from any pharmacy are legally allowed to both prescribe and dispense(sell) medications. This does cause conflict of interest and ~35% more prescriptions per patient from what I've read, but again this is nonexistent in the US and somewhat rare in the UK. Also, again, clinics providing trans healthcare are in somewhat high demand, and due to restrictive legislation on top of a general lack of good trans healthcare, it would be absurd for them to try to keep the patients that shouldn't be there. This is just one example, but my care provider was literally handing out a list of _other clinics_ in neighboring states in case legislation restricting trans healthcare passed. (sorry for the wall of text, and _thank you_ for reading it !! I hope I didn't come off too argumentative. I care about this a lot because I have to.)

@@luna010 Luna, I am so happy for you that you are able to start transition as a minor when you were so sure of it. My video do not aim to tell people not to transition as a minor, I made it to let some kids know who are not too sure of whether they should start on blockers/hormones or not, that they can still pass if they do start it as an adult, so that they don't have to rush into making a decision because of clock ticking.

speaking as a gender queer person I see this stance as possibly a little bias and apathetic. there are some parts I agree with but just not towards the start. It’s good to hear that you had a successful transition but not everyone is so lucky, not every medical professional gets these procedures right and it needs to be called out so that improvements can be made, as the field is advancing. The fact that enough people are reporting problems is enough evidence that there are things to be fixed, we cant deny. The main problem has to do with how the American healthcare is as a whole. as a massive amount of these detransitioners are Americans if not all. (and we should all know by now their system is completely broken.) If the problems were nonexistent then you wouldn’t be hearing from detransitioners in the first place. It is not just a case of blaming medical professionals, there’s seriously more to it then that. We should be listening to detransitioners stories equally, not to put problems onto regular trans people but simply to ask for change in the American healthcare system; having a better safer and more advanced transgender healthcare system will make transgender treatments better for all of us who need it. Because transgender treatments are very complicated and everyone can have very differing results, so there is more issues to think about.

agreed, later transitions usually have much different results including in places like the UK. Alot of the people who have major regrets of their transition are younger, more impressionable and jump too early, and seem to always be under the US healthcare. I’ve never seen a detransitioner who is over the age of 25
