You started this video one block east of my street, Winthrop. I lived between Grand River and Eaton... I went through several emotions watching this; remembering how incredible the area was to grow up in was awesome... seeing how it is now... sobering... I lived near Cooley High School, but most of my friends that graduated from Vetal Middle school were going to Henry Ford High School, so I chose to go there instead. I remember a group of guys stopped my friends and I at a corner on Chalfonte and Prest, pulled out a sawed off shot gun, pointed it at as and told us to never come across Greenfield again... we were leaving Cooley's gym after playing basketball... This was long before the movie Boys in the Hood came out with a similar scene in it... needless to say, going to Cooley was not something we did often after that... Every time I think about those days.. I have fond memories despite that event... but I doubt I will ever live there again... The city I remember... well... it only lives in my thoughts and past... I lost two Brothers, my Mother and Father, and others... But I still love Detroit...

Ahh...the mammoth place. Remember it to house a good shopping center for clothes and goods. Sad the place has fallen apart.

I spent most of my childhood and teenage years (1974-1988) over on Sussex St off Lyndon. I remember going shopping every Saturday with my siblings, aunt and cousin at all the shops off Grand River after watching cartoons. Brings back a lot of memories both happy and sad.

You can tell how much the community died after all the jobs left that area from the auto industry but for the most part that part of the city still strived and surviving

CharlieBo313 totally agree, love the interactions. Requests from me - I'd like to know from people in the mix, in the hood, do they feel they have a way out? What prevents them from taking it? Do they really want to live like this? What, if anything, do you find good about it (IE community feel, family, etc). I have my own thoughts on these answers but would love to hear unfiltered from these people themselves. Ps - keep up the good vids man we appreciate it!

One thing that stands out in all of your videos: the condition of the houses does not match the condition of the vehicles on the street. There are no abandoned vehicles. Most of them are in decent condition. I think that speaks to the fact that this is still the Motor City. In a small way, that gives me hope. Incidentally, thank you for making all of your videos. I have learned a lot from them.

My family use to have a house off of that intersection! I keep watching to see if you drive by it. 💔 I saw an image on Google Maps and was so saddened by the state of it. It was so nice in the 70s. It’s sad to see it now. But it will always be home in my heart.
