Beautiful! Most Midwest states have some of the most gorgeous neighborhoods in the nation. Tall trees, brick homes and lots of greenery.

Back in the days of when these homes were constructed, it was the immigrants that brought their European craftsmanship from Poland, Germany, Italy, England, Ireland. Framing, and stone masons, and bricklayers, and wood carvers, and marble cutters from Italy. And done with pride. That stands the test of time. Nowadays when you walk into a large custom newbuild, it's no more quality than a new starter home of 1,400 sq ft. Not an ounce of pride goes into the construction, and cheap materials abound.

RB does making these blanket negative statements about the WHOLE of this city make you feel better than those of us that choose to remain here in Detroit ? If that where the case I’m sure all these people would have left this area as well , Had people with YOUR RACIST mentality had not decided to abandoned this city taking there tax base wealth ( business and political clout with them to the suburbs that the government helped by giving low interest mortgages to only your race and building expressways and sewerage lines to help with divesting from this inner city instead investing resources to help build a climate that would keep people from moving out there would be no reason for YOU to be attacking us from the comforts of wherever you are making these remarks

We used to ride our bikes through here (Palmer Woods) when I was young. I had friends who lived here. Actually had both my 5th grade graduation party and my high school graduation party here. Many physicians and attorneys. The Crown Jewel neighborhood of the City. Don't be fooled into thinking that Detroit is totally decrepit. It had some bad breaks just like a lot of Midwestern cities. I would probably say the lack of consistent investment and reinvestment in schools, common areas, arts and infrastructure had long term consequences. There are many nice neighborhoods where people take pride in what they have, and the lives they live.

Some of those homes were acquired by foreclosure, and the current owners can't afford, or choose not to spend money on those properties. Drive there in 10 years, and it will look like any other Detroit neighborhood with rotten boards on the windows, and gutters falling off, and shingles missing, and driveways cracked, and property taxes unpaid. Their incomes can perhaps afford the mortgage payments but there's little else left for repairs and upkeep. This term is not to be taken lightly. 'Repairs and upkeep" is an important component of home ownership. It doesn't exist in many of those households.

Even the best neighborhood the houses need work on them. WTF? Every other house needs a new roof. Stop electing the GD democrats info local office. They are robbing that city.

Kacey Hey Kacey, I couldn't agree more. I have been reading up on the city for a year now and everything started going down hill quickly after their last Republican mayor Louis Miriani left office in 1962.

What does politics have to do with homeowners getting new roofs? It's not the government's job, it's the people that own the houses' job.
