The most beautiful Hymn ever written in my opinion Glorious Things of thee are Spoken. Then Germany adopted it as their National Anthem and changed the words. Just brilliant for a wonderful Nation of dedicated and hard working people of such a beautiful Country. They helped found the European Union and United all of Europe into a Great Democracy and land of Freedom from oppression.

L'organo Serassi. Complimenti ancora Luca e grazie per avermi ancora oggi fatto provare quest'emozione indescrivibile.

I'm completely blown away!!! The organ is great and the player is a real master. As for the German anthem question: only the third stanza of the Deutschlandlied (The Song of Germany) is the official anthem of Germany since 1990. But it's absolutely ok to name this vid after the name of the original Deutschlandlied because it's for the beautiful Haydn tune.... Thx a lot from north to south!

What a performance! Just a precision "Deutschland über alles" is no longer in use in Germany because it reminds people the nazi period (superity of the "German race" and everything...) it is now called das Deutschlandlied (the song of Germany) or das Lied der Deutschen (the song of the Germans). Greetings from a neighbor accross the Alps!
@ROFLFISH

Pandemoniumusic Ok, I'll try. The song's name was always "Lied der Deutschen" which means, song of the germans. The song was created way before the Nazi Party or movement was founded. The song is about the dream of the patriots of these days. They dreamed about a united german state, which at this time did not exist.
@Pandemoniumusic

Yes ich weiB das ^^ but "deutschland über alles" is ONE of the titles that were given to this song (a nickname if you want, like the "inno di Mameli / Fratteli d'Italia" in Italy) and Hitler used it in his propaganda because it matched his ideas. If I remerber well, the first chorus of the song starts with "deutschland uber alles".
@tserkoslavjanskij

Pandemoniumusic Hitler very much enjoyed Wagner's music, which led to the Israelis' not wanting Wagner played there. It has now been performed in Israel. It is also true that Wagner was a virulent anti-Semite. Nevertheless, neither "Deutschland über alles" nor Wagner's operas were composed with Nazi ideology in mind. Too bad some cannot enjoy music for its own sake when it was not composed to glorify a repugnant philosophy or regime. That said, this is not among my preferred interpretations of "Deutschland über alles." It's cold and pro forma; it lacks the spark and oomph I think the work requires. I don't claim to have the final word here; for there's no accounting for taste.

Deutschland, Deutschland über alles is the old title of the old song, with other text and that was first the anthem but after ww2 they call it Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit with new text, they changed because they sing in uber alles: from the maas to the memel today is is from the netherlands to lithuania, but before ww2 it was german (the maas not ,but in the old German Confederation the dutch limburg was member of it) and that was too "hitler ideas" but the song already (next message)

What you try to tell us is not 100% true! 1922 - before the nazi-regime - it was chosen as our hymn which was written originally by Joseph Hayden 1797 as the austrian hymn "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser". The nazis used only the 1st stanza in combination with the "Horst-Wessel-Lied". The "Deutschlandlied" with his 3 verses is our hymn (Decision of the Federal Constitutional Court 03/1990) but for official occasions by the state only the 3rd is sung to keep a little distance. Greetings, Tobi

I'd like to make one comment to this video: The name of our german anthem is "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" (That means: Unity and Justice and Liberty) - it is the third verse of the old anthem, which was played in the nazi-regime. You take the name of the first verse, which isn't allowed to sing in Germany. Maybe you could change the title.

I still don't get why the govt. couldn't commission new verses to replace the banned ones instead of just deleting them and ending with such a shortened anthem. They ended up eliminating 2/3 of the whole lyrics. It's like they're telling everyone the postwar Federal German Republic is just a smaller, lesser version of the previous imperial Germany rather than a new thing.

Weit verbreiteter Irrglaube.
