This is really cool, i love seeing the move and love coming back to Linux. Really and truly, I miss using MonoDevelop, especially on Linux (AKA: Xamarin Studio, VS for Mac). DotDevelop is trying to pick up the slack, slowly but surely. Great video as usual Gerald!

Never disappoint when it comes to MAUI tools. Thanks Gerald, ran well on first run. Realised simulator and emulator auto launch aren't automatic and you need to start your simulator/emulator manually. But great content after all!

Oh I think it should also definitely launch the emulator if it isn’t there. Maybe check the repo for issues. Thanks!

Can you please do the video about linux or point me in the right direction, I first learned python and used it for many years then learned C++ and now C# and Net MAUI seems to be the most current tech to develop C# GUI cross platform I guess uno platform is also similar but they lack some "develop from linux" support as well. I do everything in linux it just feels more comfortable.

Question is, if someone can do this in his free time, and it's quite beneficial for MS, why it isn't default ?
@jfversluis
Жыл бұрын
Difference of priorities and vision I guess 🤷♂️ of course it’s not a matter of it being impossible, obviously. Matter of choices where the product is going to go
@kalixthuska8846
Жыл бұрын
@@jfversluis It is out of my reach to know what MS want to do with MAUI, why and who made choices they did until now, but from my point of view they should really focus to make MAUI accessible to as many developers as they can. This is one of the things that make it possible. More developers may find more bugs, some of them might be able to make contributions. I am very thankful for VS for Mac and progress it made for the last months, but if you ask me if I would change it for VS code which also support's linux I would go 100% with VS Code. Anyway you are the right guy on the right spot, I like your videos and I hope you aren't going anywhere.
@DanFlakes

No idea why but VS for mac became absurdly slow after the recent updates, its taking 3-4 minutes for every restart so right now VS code is the only way to get things done......sigh

Sorry to hear that! Make sure to report it through the Help menu then Provide Feedback and Report a Problem. That will make it show up for the right team. Hope it will get resolved soon!

"integrated with all dotnet command line tooling"... I haven't found its 100% compatible. for instance, .net user secrets doesn't seem to work / do the secrets substitution for .NET maui. hopefully that's coming soon.
@jfversluis
Жыл бұрын
Yeah kind of depends on how you interpret it I guess. I think that adds the secrets and all the things, just .NET MAUI projects don't know how to work with that yet. The end result is the same, but there is some nuance there. Hope indeed it will come soon!
