You should see it now. It is ain a proper bonsai pot and I am pushing the backbudding to develop filled pads. It actually starts to look like something!

I'd love to see more videos about this particular tree. I was in local garden centers yesterday, looking for yew. They had lots of Taxus baccata and T. b. media 'Hillii', only some very young Taxus cuspidata 'Lescow'. I was hoping to maaybe find 'regular' Taxus cuspidata or T. c. 'Nana', but it seem the garden centers share the same supplier. May i ask which yew is most promising for Bonsai use? I was looking for small leaves.

@@Chau574 I am not sure there is a lot of difference. I would avoind the more columnar types. T. cuspidata is really nice as the needles prefer to grow in rosettes. But baccata will over time do this too. Needles reduce A LOT under bonsai care, so not per se a real issue. (But smaller is naturally better). ENd of the growing season will have a follow-up of this tree.

Bought a yew last year from the sale section for @ €6. Very pot bound and very small bush like. Managed to wire the branches out and repotted. Now looks more like a tree but has so many branches I'm not sure what to do with it next. But your video has given me better idea of how to proceed. Thanks 👍

Nice styling choices - you were really able to compact the tree considerably. Reduced deadwood looks great too. In case you would like fruit, you will need a male plant in the vicinity. Lovely tree either way!!

Just found your channel and loving it so far. Watched pt 1 and pt 2 of challenge video and very curious about the pelling back of back and peeling the branch. Is that strictly for asthetics? Whats the end goal of the peeled bark branch? Thanks for the content and jeep up the good work 👍

Welcome aboard! The part without bark is a branch I wanted gone, but wounds close slowly so I left a bit standing there as deadwood.

Branches the size you removed will root as cuttings if you just stick them in substrate. May take 2 seasons, though. Tried it once just to see if it would work ...

@@GrowingBonsai kzitem.info/news/bejne/035quqmKipGkn20si=LeiO1rUe4lDx6WC9 just uploaded this short, somehow the quality of video is really bad for the first few hours then it gets better, i pruned back the top shoots even more after digging it out and the tree recovered very well, should i prune back even more to get more backbudding next year? @GrowingBonsai absolutely no worries! In the meantime the yew had crazy bud back, I'm not sure if I shall leave it in the pot until spring 2025, or to already repot and work on it on spring 2024, will be a decent bonsai in the future🤩🙏🏼💚

I.m glad you posted a video on yew. I have the same problem as I bought one from a nursery earlier this year and wired it out in April. Just last week I removed the wire as it was already biting into the wood in just 4 months. Crazy isn't it? They do grow pretty fast. Looking forward to another update on this.
