Notes: I focus on the story behind Fubuki rather than the ship's design. I mention the design where it is necessary for the story. I do not show all of the designs Hiraga produced throughout the early 1920s, just a few examples. Additional characteristics: -6 12cm guns in 3 dual turrets (first 10 ships only). -4 oil burning boilers and 2 geared turbines producing 50,000shp/ 38 knots max/ 5,000 operational range at 14 knots. -Introduction of a tripod foremast.

What is really impressive is that the Fubuki out performed many light cruisers in the IJN and other navies.

In some ways, the Fubuki-clsss was considered by many to be destoryer leaders.

8:11 Minor correction, the 10th ship, Uranami, was actually of a slightly different design. Uranami had the updated air intakes of the Type IIs, but kept the bridge and Model A guns of the Type Is, making her a hybrid of the two.

Great stuff! WWII is a little later than my main areas of interest, but Japan built some really fascinating, innovative, and good-looking ships in the lead up to war.

The first destroyers to have considerable firepower in both guns and torpedoes. Though while also kicking off the Japanese tendency to underbuild and overarm their ships.
