Developmental Venous Anomaly - formerly called "venous angioma" - are large brain veins that drain an unusually large territory of brain parenchyma, connecting to a dural venous sinus. They have a characteristic "palm tree" appearance, where multiple small veins "fronds" converge on a large transcortical venous "trunk". They may be associated with cerebral cavernous malformation - thought to arise from local increased venous pressure.
