Hi Andrew, have you done/would you do a bit of a comparison between the Highlander 2 and the Claymore? I’d be really interested in a pro’s/cons of the two, what different types of activities you would use them for, which one you would go for if you could only have one etc.

Hi....I’m very interesting by this bike...I’m afraid to loose some capabilities to bunny hop and manual....What are your thoughts about it?
@McTrailRider
Жыл бұрын
The rear wheel goes backwards, which can negatively effect the ability to manual. There is still a really nice platform to hop from though. Plenty of people seem to be able to manual the bike no problem tbh. I don’t know where you live, but you may be able to demo one, that’s the only way to know for sure.

160/145 is perfect for Uk riding and you can take it into the big mountain too. The geo numbers looks just about perfect too but 3 grand for a frame means I’m out. Yeah I wouldn’t want to be thought of as a Santa Cruz rider either. I mean who would want to live in Surrey??

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a Deviate, but I can't decide between the Highlander 2 or the Claymore. I mainly ride enduro trails, bike parks, Finale Ligure, but also harder black lines.... If you had to have one bottom bike, which would you choose? You have experience with both...Thanks
@McTrailRider

So, for me, I’d take the Highlander as my only bike, because I feel that it is the more versatile machine of the two. The Claymore does come into its own when things get really fast though. The speed that you ride at, and the amount of time you send at bike parks may be the defining criteria. I don’t ride many places that warrant the need for the Claymore, so the Highlander would be my choice. Regardless of which one you go for, use the code MCTRAIL5 for 5% extra off. That’s on top of whatever deal they have on too👍

What do you think of fox 38 170mm on highlander? It would make it a bit like claymore I guess but more versatile
@McTrailRider
Жыл бұрын
I don’t think it needs a fork that big personally. It depends what direction you want the versatility to lean. I read a review that suggested a slacker head angle to match the bike’s capabilities, and I would partially agree. Perhaps an adjustable headset would be a better shout for versatility.

Lovely bike. I find that it’s hard to separate an Enduro bike from a Trail/All day in the mountains bike but still fit for purpose. I find here in the Lake District and in the rougher Highlands that it’s hard to get lighter tyres to hold up. I am using the Kryptotal F & R in Enduro version and they are superb, my only criticism is they are too narrow, they really should make a true 2.4. Once you add fit for purpose there is really not a lot between an Enduro and Trail rig, maybe a pound or so. I had the same issue with the Hope Tech 4 V4 drove me nuts no matter how meticulous I was. Recently I poured water over the pads and after a few seconds noise they went and stayed silent. Weird.
@McTrailRider

True, the lines between bike categories these days are very blurred. The tyres are fairly narrow, but that sits what I’m after for this bike tbh. The brakes are definitely at their noisiest when fully dry.

Which casing did you use? I am running the Kryptotal Enduro with Rimpact inserts and they have been superb for here in the Lake District. Also they don’t leak sealant through the sidewalls like previous Conti’s. Loads of grip in all kinds of conditions and roll ok, my only criticism is the claimed 2.4 is nowhere near and too narrow. They need to make a true 2.4 or 2.5 and they have a great tyre.
