Good propaganda film since there was no Japanese aircraft carrier sunk by US PT boats.

True, but with respect, I don’t think the film was attempting to portray that one afternoon at sea by a fictional PT boat crew in combat as an actual historical recreation of true events either, rather just a depiction of the optimistic potential of a weapon system deployed by the military during WW2. I’m not sure this is good example of propaganda either; not in the true definition of the political term “propaganda” at least. It just an 70 year old “corny” example of what contemporary civilian defense contractors produce all the time currently to showcase their latest systems to the public only in slicker up to date digital media. You can find them all over KZitem. But that’s just my humble opinion.

Mine was a GM too, PT 283, "Hero's Haunt". Gone 15 years now, I miss him, and "larger than life" men of this era.

I heard about some doctors that bought a surplus torpedo boat. They took it from one coast, through the Panama Canal to the other coast, passing speed boats as if they were buoys. Once they docked, they found how much fuel they burned, and that they couldn't afford to fill it up, again. Nowadays, I suspect that after a doctor pays off his student loans, he can afford buying a swimming pool full of high Octane gasoline.

I don' tthink it does any harm to be reminded of the hardships faced by the allies during 2WW. It wasn't a bed of roses and no one should beleive it so.

My uncle Leo Piersall served on PT 532. Late in 1944 they received 5 inch rockets with a 4 x 4 launcher. They could essential launch in seconds 16 five inch artillery shells a mile and a quarter. He said they weren't too bad to reload either. When these plywood boats received rockets they became know as Devil Boats rather than Patrol Torpedo boats.

What was the four leaf clover bit supposed to mean? Is it something lost to history? Well, at least Smitty learned to shoot!
