Current or load control circuit must add to the unit to protect the device from over loading, fan needs to spin always as long as the generator generates power to cool the system down non stop.
@chadlevasseur85

Ok so I'm interested in buying a few of these for off grid cabin BUT the biggest downside is you must always be there to supervise the unit. You said it can generate electricity 24 hours a day BUT does the conversion kit assure that the system fans will continue to work without overloading the system? What happens if I'm out hiking and my stove starts to cool off a bit. It's not hot enough to generate the power needed in charging devices hooked up and the fans but still warm enough to over heat the unit. I want a full proof system that doesn't need constant monitoring. Why not a stirling hot air motor hooked up to a turbine??? 🤷🏻♂️

I am thinking of building one for our cabin but with liquid cooling. I have a 20 gallon trash can(FDA approved) on a stand behind the heat shield on the wood stove to melt snow in. Once there are few gallons of water in the bottom of the can the generator can be set on the stove. It would be a win win. With both electricity and a lot of water.

You could have the fans that protect the unit run on a completely seperate circuit with their own designated generators. That way they'd be on whenever heat was present and protection was needed regardless of load on the other circuit when in use. Takes away all the risk of ever burning out and also would run as a heater whenever there was enough to trigger the fans. I'm not an electrician at all but it's screaming out to me as I watch this. It can protect itself easily without any responsibility on the end user.

It would be possible to make a circuit that can reserve a certain amount of power for the fans and only delivering excess power to the outputs, but this kind of circuit likely wouldn't survive if it was built in as part of the unit. It would need to be attached by cable like the "accessory" he sells which pretty much does what ur saying. This "accessory" should be included with the device by default, but if it isn't and it's sold as optional, then they are selling a very unsafe product.

+joshsmallwood Initially we placed all the electronics in the generators themselves to prevent them from being overloaded, however they would not work reliably as they were to close the heat source. It was determined the best course of action was to create an external control system. That control system went through many revisions to finally get to the Diversion Battery Charger with Digital Display we have now. The core technology behind it is the same technology we are about the release in our new water cooled system. You would think you would design Sims in your diodes in there somehow so that if the voltage drop below a certain point it would disconnect whatever your charging and eliminate the problem it's so the fan would always be running. What's the longest this unit has run for anybody. It's a great idea there's no doubt about it because ideally if you have an automatic temperature regulating system to sing should last forever it is a great idea except this whole concept of not stopping the use of electricity if you're using too much is an Achilles heel who were the kind of money such a unit cost you can't screw around

More surface area on the hot side dosen´t get u anywhere, because a wood fire is way hotter then those TEG´s can handle anyway! The Problem with TEG´s are to get rid of the heat you put in them. To get more power out of TEG´s u have to raise the thermal difference betwen hot and could side. If you opperate on the max range of the hot side, the only way to get more power out is to cool the could side further down. Thats the reason why he mentions so often you should not let the fans die, because that means a downward spiral effect. less heat removed = less power generated = less power for the fans = system heats up = TEG´s get damaged!

This seems to be developed by industrial controls people. That is not a compliment. I've worked in IT as a Network Operations Manager for years, and some of the worst stuff I've had to deal with has been industrial controls (HVAC controls, door controllers, etc). My theory is that they try to piece together "units" of different types that kindof do part of a thing they are trying to do and get it to mostly work and sell it. I'm basing the comparison on the fact that overloading the output can shut the fans down and "damage the unit." The protections for that would have been cheap, simple, and would use no power to speak of during normal operations. So, TEGpro has designed something that will probably do mostly ok as long as you treat it with kit-gloves. A good design to do this with protections would have been very easy and cost wouldn't be an issue. Edit: Wow. Now I see. They saw the problem and instead of handling it, they point to you a product that handles it. Problem says you? Sales opportunity says I.

I'm confused. Why would anyone use a wood stove to produce 45 watts of electricity? How much wood do you need to generate one kw? I know you said you're and engineering student. When the first "thermoelectric" technology came out I became interested in it, 20 tears ago. The best applications (so far) are the "pellet stoves". The heat by-product generates electricity to drive the pellet stove fan. Great for cabins off grid. I think your experiment is a good one but not yet practical as source of electricity. As the technology gets better, I believe "thermoelectric" technology will be a valuable source of electricity for folks off the grid. I also believe that 30 years from now we will have houses 100% making their own electricity from solar, wind and thermoelectric. Once the technology gets maturing even small units capturing heat from air conditioning and refrigeration can capture waste heat and turn it into electricity to increase the efficiency.

@Thermoelectricgener3447: I’m looking for power-generating technology to use with a hot tent stove, for purposes of charging a CPAP unit for somebody in my hiking group. (Our days can be pretty short here, and we can go for weeks without seeing the sun, so solar is out.) But it’s a pretty sure bet, that we will end up cooking over the fire, and probably sitting around it for some time, and most likely also using it to warm the tent in the evenings; It’s not hard to find abundant fuel for a woodstove here. I’m wondering how much a complete setup for safely charging a battery to keep a CPAP going all night long would weigh, how much stove surface area such a unit would really require in order to be able to optimally charge, Including thermal, electric fan, or anything else that should also sit on the stove, what the rate of power generation would be using one of your units, whether I could safely strap one of those onto the stoves sides or underside, and if you have a dealer in Canada. This looks like a pretty innovative idea, and it could make a big difference to The length of time that our little group can spend in the woods and the length of the hikes that we can take on. Thank you, and I’m looking forward to hearing back from you soon!😊

I like the effort but I would not buy it. Someone still needs to figure out a better way to protect the thermal electric sensor thing from burning out.

Will this work off of a pellet stove as well? I assume it needs the hot surface? Thanks

You should have power monitoring to ensure the fans are always powered. Seems like a pretty basic design flaw.

Seems like it should include a internal switch to disconnect the external load if the fan stops

if its not water cooled its just a toy, made to look like something that its not. Like reliable, dependable, durable. order your own teg tiles, water cooled heat exchanger. and build your own for a lot less than this toy would cost. just remember you only have so much power to work with, and if your appliance draws to much than your cool new system won't satisfy your needs

I'm looking at this in order to maybe use it with a pellet stove that needs electricity to run the hopper.

Parents got pellet stove for a small house, takes 1000w generator to run it when power is out..(fan, ignition, hopper thermostat circuit) this would have absolutely no hope of keeping up. I'm not even sure it would be worth it, as a supplemental charger for my solar/wind battery banks. 1 solar penal on a cloudy winter day can give 45w, and I don't have to babysit a solar panel.
