Glad to see they improved the handle design over the tactical, the tactical is very uncomfortable with out alterations, hope they lightened it as well. The Khopesh is a Hittite design taken by the Egyptians who had originally used a straight slightly leaf shaped blade. You're right the khopesh was designed to be used with a shield and it's hypothesized that the hook at the tip was used to pull the opponents shield out of line. Also it was historically bronze not steel, one of the nicer ones was found in Tut's tomb.

I bought one of these about 6 months ago. It is literally strong enough to cut down a tree. I have put it through a load of abuse, and it has been a beast so far. The edge retention is excellent. It was also wicked sharp straight out of the box. The only issue I've had with it is the sheath. One of the fasteners broke. I highly recommend this sword. 5 star product.

I like the design of the back edge. Perfect for thrusting and hooking, as you do with a traditional khopesh; also nice as a back spike with that sharp, pointy hook tip

My favorite feature is how elegant and dangerous this blade is. The Khopesh was not designed to be used primarily as a slasher. The front hook is used to hook away your opponents' shield and then thrust into them. Most fighters didn't wear armor in those times, in favor of shields.

I love the more traditional design as opposed to a tactical one

Kult of Athena do you know anyone who's currently doing a stress test like we've seen done to their xiphos. I want to see if it'll hold together.

We can review it again and beat the hell out of one. The current batch of xiphos that we have in stock is thicker than the first.

Kult of Athena that'd be interesting to see. initial impressions say it'll hold up well but it's going to be in the stress test we see where the weapon might falter. hope to see the video soon

in reverse grip, its to drag down your opponets shield and then penetrate and slash. and the point needs to be more narrow.

I would still choose the Viking Sword or Axe over the Khopesh just based on reach & counter capacity. Still a good design. Great for collection. I'm sure the Egyptians preferred the axe or spear or bow over the sword as well....

Cheap? Not really. Durable? Looks like it, sure tougher than that wickedly keen bronze. Almost a shame to just whack weeds with it.

To make this better they should elongate the blade and reduce the diameter size of the handle to better fit the hand. The belly as you call it is it's best feature.

That big hook would be good for hooking on to other weapons and shields to pull them away.

The hook is too small for that but it's good enough for false edge cuts.

Compared to the historical examples which can be seen in museums and bronze reproductions like Neil Burridge is doing, this design seems clunky and overbuilt. There is no reason a steel version of a sword should utilize a larger volume of material than a bronze one, but honestly this looks like a khopesh in name only.
