Water. Carbon. Ecotourism. Net biodiversity gain. Water is important as we have 2 rivers, we don’t have animals grazing on the land so we reduce the amount of nitrate flushed into the rivers, and we’re improving water quality. The lakes are also important in flood defences, as we are a buffer for any flash floods, and reduce the risk of flooding further downstream. Carbon is important for the woodland that we manage, as well as solar panels for electricity, and ground source heat pump for heating. Ecotourism - we enjoy visitors coming, mostly family and friends from church. We love entertaining people, visitors are blessings and we enjoy our time with them here or visiting the coast. And also for ecotourism, we have planning permission for a holiday let, so that is our focus for the coming year. Net biodiversity gain. habitat connection, we have 2 main corridors running east and west, and north and south where wildlife can pass through our land, so we are just not an oasis in a barren desert, but we allow wildlife to flow through and flourish as much as they can. Biodiversity is also about the number of bees hives that we have, thanks to support from a local company we did have over 20 hives here this year. Biodiversity is also the diversity of flowers we have in our meadows, still early days as we are changing land use from animals into wildflower meadows, but we have seen an increase in flowers, and will continue to monitor. disrupt grass, reducing fertility and allowing native flowers to develop.
