As a Malaysian, I'm able to understand the Indonesian language to quite an extent and I just want to shine some light on things that you might not have noticed. After the match, Deddy Corbuzier asked both the commentators - GM Megaranto and WIM Chelsie what they think Dewa Kipas' level/rating is. If you watched the live stream, you might have noticed that Megaranto wasn't that comfortable with speaking the truth, most likely due to the fear of being attacked by the netizens, and instead of saying that Dewa Kipas is not a high rated player (which in a way is saying that he cheated previously), he said that Dewa Kipas is "hampir master", meaning almost master. And when both Chelsie and Irene heard about that comment, they too agreed with him. I am not a chess master but the rating I am at is enough for me to know that one-move blunders like the ones he made in the games against Irene are not the kind of blunders an "almost master" would make repeatedly. After the live stream, I went on Deddy's Insta to look at what the Indonesian netizens said about the games and surprise surprise, majority of them are still somehow siding Dewa Kipas. There were numerous comments saying that no matter the result, they still support and believe that he did not cheat. Not only that, there were also comments calling this match unfair because Irene is already used to playing OTB games whereas Dewa Kipas is not, saying that this put him under stress and if the games were played online at the comfort of his own home, he could have beaten Irene. After the match, Dewa Kipas said on camera that he lost because the time control is too fast for him and he is not used to it, which we already know is full of shit as this 10 min time control was mentioned by the arbitrator to have been specifically chosen based on the time control of his games on chess.com. Many netizens then used this as an argument on Insta, once again saying that the games were not fair for him due to the time control, with one guy even commenting that the 10mins games Dewa Kipas played on the website are against bots and as this match was against a real human being, this should be harder and hence 10mins was too short. I guess at this point it is clear that there are many blind netizens out there who know almost nothing about the facts surrounding this incident as well as possibly knowing nothing about chess at all. Dewa Kipas has become almost a hero to many of them and seeing this, I'm honestly starting to believe that their blind following and support is no different than that of a cult. Of course, some of the Insta comments do consist of people saying that they are now finally starting to believe that Dewa Kipas was indeed cheating but it is still very obvious that many people still fully believe in all the stories that his son cooked up on social media. I know that many of us here want to believe and hope that this match will finally put an end to this drama but judging from the kind of comments I saw on Insta, I doubt that this is truly over. After all, there was no admission of guilt, apology or compensation, you'll never know what these crazy netizens will come up with next.

Ah, the story of Dewa Kipas. A type of character that's loved by Indonesian people. An averaged, middle-aged guy, looking like the rest of us, from a humble place, got banned from Chessdotcom after beating a famous player. Such a nice story of "an old guy got wronged by the system" character. Despite the data and suspicious statistics that are too good to be true (and it was), people still blindly support him, as if he's an undiscovered mythical god of chess from the ordinary folks class. Here in Indonesia, people love a story like that and will get angry if people with common sense told them otherwise. I personally don't have any grudge for Dewa Kipas, he's a pretty cool dude from what I've seen in the videos. It's probably his son who was "tinkering" with the gameplay. But my god his supporters are crazy toxic! They don't care about the suspicious stats (cheat) or anything else, just the background story, and the fact that he's one of our own. As an Indonesian, I apologize.

If Dewa Kipas or his son had any honor, they would post on this channel admitting their dishonesty and lack of integrity. If the Indonesians supporting them had any morals, they also would post on this channel confessing their error and asking for forgiveness. The lack of either of these actions reveals something toxic about the perpetrators and their lack of moral compass. (This post did have a heart from Levy, but after I edited it to accommodate James Powell's good insight, it disappeared. Just a FYI)

This event does not at all "reveal something toxic" about the country that "the perpetrators hail from." Don't make generalizing comments about an entire country based on the actions of a small, insular minority. Obviously Dewa and his son are sketchy, as are the people that supported them. Don't make comments about the entire country of Indonesia, or you are participating in the same hateful rhetoric that started this mess.

The downside: Sucks the cheater got $7000 and all this fame. I can't help but feel like he won in that regard. They say cheaters never win but in this case a cheater won $7000. Also sucks that the internet did what the internet does in sending you death threats. The upside: I love your professionalism in all this. So many people and businesses in your position blunder their responses so much worse and this experience is an excellent lesson in how to properly handle situations like this. In spite of a lack of admission of guilt - I think it's very clear this guy was a cheater and deserved to be banned. Just remember not to take the haters personally. I feel like it can be hard to do when there's so many comments flying your way about it but just remember there are a ton of us out there who are rooting for you and are thankful for and love all the amazing content you put out. I am from Indonesia, and I watched you long before this drama happened. When I heard this drama, I felt very embarrassed. because many people who support dewa kipas don't know anything about chess, and they just follow along in reporting your account. and they think dewa kipas are really great and don't cheat. and finally the GM from Indonesia submitted a challenge to see the expertise of dewa kipas. but he wasn't at Irene's level, and even made a silly mistake. whereas we know he has 98% accuracy when he plays at chess.com. but yeah that's the reality, he got the money and he still doesn't want to admit to the cheating he did. and some are aware that he is not that great, but there are also those who still support him. what should be wrong is still wrong, even if he comes from my own country. don't be a supporter of those who cheat. it is not wise and makes the person look as stupid as the one who cheated. but I am sure, from now on there will be many Indonesians who will see your video and they will become your fans too. lets see levy ..!

I knew it will come to this honestly. So.. yea im indonesian and obviously i watched it live. As to comment on the unfortunate that he wont admit what he's done. Heres the thing, we got 2 others pro chess players commentating the match. It was GM susanto and WIM chelsie right. So yea. Once in a while there, deddy the owner of the podcast. Asked them bluntly, about his skills and the possibility of him cheating. Theyre.. not to blame them or anything, im sure they knew the level difference, its just theyre being too nice. Not to answer it like.. straightforwardly saying that dewa kipas skill is below expectation and he's most probably cheating. if you play chess.. you can see clearly its complete annihilation. Not even a contest, irene was never in trouble. Well she is currently the strongest indonesian chess player in woman category. Shes a WGM ranked around 50ish among all the women in the whole world, and in open category shes an IM. Pretty damn close to GM tho. So even if im saying she probably slightly stronger than you levy. Shes still in the same rank as you right levy? And here.. i didnt see any kind of brilliant moves he did that got you in trouble in your controversial chess game. Like literally zero moves. In fact i do believe she went easy on him in the 3rd game. Playing the london, Simplifying the game and went to the end game, so for the amateur eyes it might seems as if dewa kipas put up a fight till the board became clean. But well.. thats that. We chess fans, no matter where we are and what we do and what we believed in, we know the truth. Just let them say whatever they want.. lets just put this all behind.. and now.. i can peacefully come back to learn from your videos again. Alright.. back to learning, oh btw levy when are you gonna do that college course on the najdorf? 😂 Btw because of this, now i found out that irene and chelsie has a twitch streaming channel. Might also check on them once in a while later on. Theyre the proud people representing my country in chess afterall.

The majority of indonesians say that Dewa_Kipas's play match the strength of Irene and giving Irene a hard time, so Dewa_Kipas's rating must be high since he can match the play of an IM. They think chess is like MOBA where if you win easy, you win fast.

As an Indonesian myself, I am ashamed of what Dadang did. It doesn't matter if he is really good or not (considering hes gone up against a gm and lost miserably), but the fact is that he cheated. It pains me to say that my country men have this sense of false pride, because mainly we don't have a lot of good enough people who are able to be in an international stage, especially chess. However, I do not like it when people assume that all Indonesians are like that and that they supported Dewa Kipas. The fact that our chess team went up against him shows that a lot of us disagrees with Dewa Kipas and thinks of him as a cheater. So please, say what you want to say to Dewa Kipas, but never assume all Indonesians are at fault here.
