Thank you, thank you! I was about to pull the trigger here in the UK, then watched this vid. Checked my listed item (cheaper than others) and it was the Type 1. Phew. Now I'm the proud owner of a Type 2 instead. Much appreciated.

My beef with these lights is the inability to buy replacement lens covers. The old one got melted and scorched by weld spatter and I searched hard for a replacement and found nothing. I bought the new model as a replacement. The old still works just a lot dimmer.

Interesting...could just take the cover off or try one of those car headlight kits on it if it's not too destroyed.

This one is not going to buff out. It still works, just a lot more diffused and noticeably dimmer. I was just surprised replacement didn't seem to be an option. @@SomeGuysGarage

On DeWALT’s servicenet I found the lenses for my DCL045 but they didn’t have them for the Mac Tools and Craftsman versions (MCL045 and CMCL090). Maybe the opposite is true for the DCL050. Hopefully they have Craftsman or Mac Tools versions of the DCL050 with available lenses! That said, there appears to be a Greenworks version of the DCL045, which is really weird since that isn’t an SBD brand. Maybe it has a different origin and, thus, different parts available.

@@emmettturner9452 This is pretty cool--did you have the p/n or the cost for the lenses (for the DCL045)? i left the thin factory protective film on mine lol--it doesn't affect output really and seems like it will at least provide some protection. I was thinking using bulk 3M, Xpel, Lamin-X, etc. PPF on it would be another idea. But, if replacement lenses aren't an arm and a leg, it might not even matter.

Good video I bought this light last year when it was on sale. I quickly checked thankfully i have the newer version. DeWalt should now update some of their other lights especially the big ones for entire rooms. Make them cordless and cord powered like Milwaukees tripod light.

Yeah, I suspect we'll see more updates to lights...or they might have done the same secretly without ever updating model numbers like this DCL.

Thanks for the great insight re: Type 2 upgrade. Question - just checked your link to Amazon, and it lists the old Type I specs (500/250 lumens). Do you know if they'll ship the Type 2 upgrade?

3:26 Most people won't see the PWM flickering with the naked eye and they really should count themselves as lucky. There are a very small number of people on this planet that can, however, pick up that PWM flicker rate especially off axis of the light's main beam and it's not pleasant I can tell you. It's not as bad as the camera shutter shows but it is enough to give you a slight headache or ill feeling. That being said, I still bought another three more after I discovered that with the first one. These make great electronics, fine detail, work lamps when you need overkill brightness while doing SMD field repairs of PCBs.
@SomeGuysGarage
Ай бұрын
Yup, they're good lights but the PWM, especially on half brightness, can be annoying if you pick up on it. It's usually not too bad if you're just using it to brighten up an area and it's behind you or whatever, more so if it's the only light and you're working right beside it. Sadly, a lot of LED lights are like this...

My favorite DeWALT light is the DCL045. Though it’s primarily intended to be an automotive light that clamps across the underside of an open hood to illuminate an engine bay, it also folds and the hooks rotate to stand on the floor or dangle from anywhere. It works with either battery type: 12V Max or 18/20V Max, which is convenient for me because I got a fake 20V battery from a thrift store that’s actually 12v in a 5AH shell (“IcyBreeze” battery found at Goodwill). There are even Craftsman (CMCL090) and Mac Tools (MCL045) versions but they are V20 Max and 18/20V Max only. Replacement lenses are available for the DeWALT (NA162972) which look different but likely fit all three.

@@SomeGuysGarage I used it as an area light just last night when loading a huge pile of wood into the van. I ran the battery dead and needed a jump start earlier so I didn’t dare use the interior lights. I just strapped that thing to the lift gate and we all got to work!

I had the same issue. I just cut small tabs of gorilla tape and layered it on the bottom of the light until it created enough friction for the light to not be so loose.

I have a few different dewalt lights, and im wondering if anyone could tell me if the Dewalt powerstack battery would make the light brighter if it delivers more power?
@SomeGuysGarage
4 ай бұрын
Nope, same brightness from pretty much all the batteries, just runtime changes. They're all 20v batteries and the lights don't draw enough current to make the battery type matter. Torque Test Channel did just test the light output over time of the DCL050 so check that out too.
