I was in Amway for several years. I joined knowing I did not having what it takes to be successful in it. I had a poor self image and was very negative. I knew that I would need to work on my self esteem and grow myself if I wanted to be successful, and I knew it would take time. I wanted to change. Ultimately I was not successful in Amway, but I did improve myself which led to changing my life, and business success outside of Amway. I am grateful to the people in my organization that poured their knowledge into my life.

Don’t get me wrong the business support material companies have their place, but they do not help much with “how to” in the Amway business. I’m a returning Amway distributor and since me return I’ve decided to take an unorthodox approach that’s been more effective
@RobCLynch

@@nard-o I agree. I'm also a returning distributor and my focus is establishing customers - the products make that quite easy and I've found that customers bring me more customers. But after a passage of time, some customers become distributors, because they want to get the products at the wholesale price. A small percentage of those people develop their own customers and it grows from there. I've found that if people are making money from day 1, they become addicted. Rather than spending hundreds on tools and travelling to functions.

Ah, but the entire story is never explained to potential recruits. Only dreams of untold riches & freedom. Never about buying motivation & going to seminars which many of these leaders make their primary income from. It's not even get rich quick, it's get rich never. In fact, a part time job cutting grass would be more profitable! Did you know uplines make a ton of money by people buying their books, CD's and going to seminars? 4 questions: 1. How long you been in? 2. How much was your last check? 3. How much time do you spend on Amway in hours, and how much money did you "invest" on motivational books, CD's, fuel, hotels and attending seminars? 4. How much are you able to retail Amway products? Very little in all likelihood because they are overpriced & inefficiently distributed. Amway is a loser of a business, and MLM is a loser of a business model.

Jan Jirek A job is not a pyramid because each member of the organisation earns a profit. In MLM, by the very nature of the business structure, the majority of members CANNOT make a profit, otherwise the company itself would not make a profit. The business model NEEDS people to make a loss long term. If you argue that people only need to make a loss short term and then pass that loss on to others they recruit, that's where the problem of saturation comes in. It is inherently unsustainable if the business fulfils its promises to all distributors.

The law has been very lenient towards Amway, allowing them to not be classified as an illegal pyramid scheme if they had a minimum of 70% non-distributor customers. Amway's CEO recently stated in an interview with the WSJ that they are around 50% external sales, although it's estimated to be significantly lower. The CEO of Amway India was recently arrested and Amway recently had to pay $56 million to former IBO's for fraud. If you understand saturation, you should determine this to be a scam.

You mean, showing people their true selves? It's awesome you see that now! People are so caught up lying to themselves thinking they're something they aren't...they boast, talk about what all they accompished, how good they are full of pride. Yet when it comes to building an Amway Business, they find out they were really nothing at all because they were too selfish to put others first. I've also learned that people that weren't successful building an Amway business have a huge problem: listening to others, they're selfish, they cut people off when they're talking, they falsely claim and accuse, they mock people, they blame everyone, they don't ever shut up to listen, they have a very poor and loser mentality.

Be careful not to confuse the organizational hierarchical structure of a legitimate company to the pyramid scheme distribution of Amway. Amway has significant sales and makes billions while their distributors actually lose money. Amway has also been prosecuted various times in various regions for operating an illegal pyramid scheme. Amway is quasi-legal, however, recently, it's been determined they do not meet the FTC's minimum external sales requirements, so technically now illegal pyramid scam
