These students are our future leaders. This is excellent school advocacy. It is unconscionable that our children have to worry about these conditions when they go to class. And it looks like this video was produced before the recent sewer backup that *forced the evacuation of the entire ground floor*. Please email the current school board and tell them this is not acceptable.

@Amelia, I'm curious as to why it is that if she's so passionate about these issues why did it take the students to expose them? And why are you sure it will get better and how? You don't seem to be so sure your mom will make it better, just that it will get better. I'm not saying she won't be good for the students just that there are red flags that need to be addressed.

Thank you for making this. I graduated from DHHS in 2013 and I remember being afraid to use the bathroom and walking around floods in the hallway every time it rained. We had a gravel parking lot with a one-way entrance that was extremely dangerous. I thought all this was normal because I didn't feel like I could do anything about it. I later learned that NO ONE else in my college or med school had to deal with issues of this level in high school. I will be sharing this widely. We need a public health intervention.

What happened back then? Who was in charge back then? Why were the small problems never fixed? Now that the school is falling down and dangerous for everyone, you are saying that there is no money to fix it? You have to fix problems when they first appear. The person or Board that said "no" to fixing the small problems when they first appeared is at fault. Then every person or Board since then is at fault for not making the repairs. They should all be taken to court for their failure to protect everyone who enters that building. This is a disgrace to the District/Board. I am livid! Think of how many children have been subjected to this building! Are they okay?! Like, seriously, did they graduate with skin conditions or PTSD? Sure these kids have had enough. Why wouldn't they? The school is basically uninhabitable. It's literal squalor. Now we're on the internet bragging about these kids being "future leaders" when they're in survivor mode. At this point, they're just trying to stay alive up in there. Without this video, would anyone even care? Do we need a "future leader" to get electrocuted first? This conversation shouldn't be about children having to save their school, it should be about WHY adults aren't doing it! The message here is that kids have to become adults and save themselves. This is shameful. Absolutely embarrassing and shameful. You know what really makes me cringe though? My kid was at Avondale elementary through School of Choice. I was excited to get the acceptance and even happier she'd feed into Druid Hills Middle with her peers, but at the last minute I learned she wouldn't because of School of Choice. I had to reapply to get her there and had missed the window in my own ignorance. I was distraught. Then, as this was happening COVID hit and I just gave up. It was all a mess anyway and the kids were home, so I just put her in her home school and prayed for the best. I have always regretted that decision and wondered how much I'd shortchanged my child. I've talked often with family and friends about how I'd have to "right this one day and reapply" since the pandemic has eased. You know, because the Druid Hill's experience is supposed to be the "better one" in Dekalb. Just think on that. This is considered "better" in our county. That's how much we have dropped the ball on our own children. People think Druid Hill's is better. But actually, it's just more of the same. You ride through that area, look at million dollar condos and think something is better, but when it comes to kids, it's all just downtrodden waste and crap. So much so that these babies have to "fight back." We're proud because they have a voice and decided they didn't want to smell feces anymore. I was thinking I had to get MY act together so THIS could be my kids future! Have I written this clearly enough? We should all be ashamed, even if this isn’t our home school. The bar for future success in adulthood has been set for children at how much they're willing to fight back against having to experience EVERY DAY of their education in dangerous conditions unfit for animals. What will make you a future leader? Asking that water not drip on your head as you use the bathroom in a stall with a door that isn't on the hinges. But hey, I guess you're just a "regular kid" if you've just accepted there's no privacy in the restroom. Who the heck is on the school board? And how did they decide other places needed the money more? What are we doing to THOSE kids? How much worse it it for them?! I just can't. Somebody call CPS on the government! 😮💨

Wow. Very disappointing to see this in any school or in any building that people are consistently spending hours a day in. I hope this video will help spur some action to help Druid Hills High School.

Good grief. What a dangerous dump of a school. These kids are certainly presenting the case fairly for a naturally, decent and safe high school campus. You'd think a governor would be ashamed of school facilities like this. Our governor would be and would make it right.

This should be criminal. The conditions in that school are illegal for workplaces. The mold, possible asbestos from exposed piping, sewage, water damage, etc. What the hell are they teaching these kids with this type of treatment?

I can’t believe this, I’m so sorry you guys are going through this. I don’t remember going through any of this when I went, only 11 years ago. They had just built the new science annex.

If any students from the DeKalb County Schools which weren't voted off the list for repairs see this, post videos of your school conditions! People need to see what students are having to put up with, and it will give us better information to support all of you in getting the repairs your schools need so they can be decent learning environments without health and safety concerns due to negligence about maintenance and repairs.

Gen Z knows how to leverage mass communication. Remember when the Parkland students organized a nationwide movement within two weeks?

This was a really sad video to watch. By all means Dekalb County should have been on top of fixing these issues. On the other hand... the video may have been 8 minutes of why they probably decided to close that particular school because its TOO MUCH to fix. The school board is 100% to blame... they should have stepped in YEARS AGO, it seems to me. I do want to give a shout out to ALL STUDENTS who participated in making this video and taking the video to social media! Kids are the future leaders of America and The Dekalb Co. School Board should be disappointed in themselves for allowing that school to remain open, making our Future Leaders go to school in those conditions.

Disappointed, but not surprised... Went to Chamblee High School from 2006-10.…Had a ton of mold issues...They at least got a new building after I left. Dekalb county has always dropped the ball on stuff like this. Kudos to those kids for keeping pressure on the school board, mold is a very serious issue that should have already been taken care of.

And the county voted it off the priority renovation list. They should be fired and charged.

I was honestly incredibly happy to graduate from this school back in 2017. This school had so many issues every day and nothing was ever being done about it. There were many sinks being broken and you would only have to use one. Sometimes the stalls wouldn’t even be there

This is a liability issue, are you going to wait until someone is electrocuted before you take action? That school needs to be condemned!

How can this not be a priority ? A disgrace and I am sorry for these students. I would pull my kid out of this school

This is truly unbelievable, watching this as a high school student from another metro-Atlanta county school system. DHHS is clearly in need repairs. As I was watching, I could not understand how anyone would allow students and teachers to enter into the facility at the conditions it is in. It should be shut down immediately as a health hazard. My school is at the 20 year mark, and all the facilities have been maintained meticulously. Put in the extra money to take care of our future leaders that will allow them to succeed. I would not be performing even close to where I am academically and in general if I was taught in this school. Do better Dekalb!
