Thank you for your opinion. However, my impression with China's EV is that they are cheap, but quality may not be as good as they declared because of information transparency. Of course, personal privacy is another concern.
I agree the China EV import tariff is not an economic issue. However, I disagree that your argument is a political issue, I will argue the import tariff is a legal issue for the Canadian government.

Just setup the same agreement with China as we have for the other brands. I believe the agreement is anyone who sell a car in Canada has to produce one here, which is how we got all these cars produced and exported here. China can do the same, but they will lose the labor cost advantage. It will be up to China if they want to do it
China EV quality is good. Why cheap, simply the cost in China is not as high as those in US and Europe. So they can sell cheaper. It’s not so called subsidized and excess production
I've seen quite a few Polestar EVs lately which is owned by Geely.

I guess your comment on economic benefits, and on preventing a war, was more hinting on us should not block Chinese cars from coming in. However, you didn't mention the huge subsidies from the Chinese gov to their manufacturers, and creating an unfair competing advantage. On preventing a war, did u remember Putin went to visit China during the winter olympics before the invasion? I still remembered the scene where Putin sat alone napping during the opening ceremony. Also, the long table scene where France Macron persuading Putin to back down. Are you sure handing an olive branch to them can prevent a war? or we should start creating a scenario where they know it is impossible for them to start a war?
@@Tomysit416 Totally agree. For example: Wechat users can continue to use wechat in North America, but Whatsapp users cannot continue to use it in China.
There's an article that's been under reported or ignored by the mainstream media. Google "Trump invites Chinese to build US auto plants" and it should bring you to an Asia Times article. In that article, it says Trump would still tax 100% of Chinese EVs made in Mexico but invited Chinese EV makers to build in the U.S. using American labor. The article didn't say whether vehicles made in the U.S. is tariff exempt but it wouldn't make sense if it's not. lol I can't see BYD or whoever would just rollover like that for no benefit. Basically what I am saying is, on the issue of Chinese EVs, Biden (in action) is more protectionist than Trump even though Trump had always gone on and on about China this and that. If Trump becomes President again, he might be a little more open to working with China this time around and do a complete 180 on his previous protectionist stance.
