This has my vote as the greatest math analogy ever made

Videogame analogies are very welcome, thank you! I use them a bunch in my own notes while learning new physics and math.

Wonderful metaphor. Though I must say as an avid Legend of Zelda fan, it is Kakariko sir. Just a heads up in case some trolls try and come at you on this video. Awesome as usual though! You are a wonderful teacher :)

You could also replace this with an analogy to persona 5, with P^(-1) taking us into the metaverse, where D is all the awesome powers gained there like being easy to take powers and also meeting morgana i guess. And P taking us back to the real world.

Or D is also that palace you go into in the game

Diagonalization is nice and all... But I was wondering how easy or hard it would be to implement this programmatically? For example, I can sort the matrix's rows and columns by increasing or decreasing value, and perform vector operations on each... But also is there some simple mathematical function which can simply return the diagonal?

And this is why we watch videos before commenting. You provide an answer that maps onto lambda calculus almost trivially

I wonder if that analogy actually works on people. I have never believed using analogies of a fictional world could work better than a real world analogy. At first, not everyone know about the fictional world (here TLoZ: TP, a 2005-2006 game, which is correctly targeting 15-20 years range). Then, I think it's better to identify as a regular situation because it's often timeless. Because in like 20 years, this analogy would be hard to understand. Also, if your student ends up being a teacher in the future, it's better to have a real world analogy for future generations than a fictional world. Finally, I personally prefer an analogy as a "path" of morphisms that are similar, like a path in the real world, or in topology.

if by "people", you mean stuffy academics, then you're right; it probably won't work whats the difference between fictional and real world analogies? yeah but I bet you've heard of SUPER SMASH BROTHERS: MELEE FOR THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE that's because you wouldn't need to remember the analogy in 20 years, you'd be educated enough to come up with your own cool one the teacher knowing a real world analogy is important conceptually, but which is more fun? you can catch a lot more bees with honey rather than a cup of water, per-se. finally, I kind of agree with you... I just relate better to abstractions because it's what I was trained to do, I guess... but the LoZ explanation is way cooler.
