I've recently bought some OX4 Hot Duane pickups to go into my Les Paul Custom (and all being well, the standalone video of that should be out already - link at the start of this vid!). But today, I wanted to talk a little bit about my process of dialling in a new set of pickups to best suit the guitar they're in....how do I set pickup heights, adjust pole screws, etc? What tonal differences do those adjustments make? Can you set a pickup too high?
What do you think? Do you do something similar? Or do you set-and-forget? Did I make things "better"? Comment below!
Guitar recorded through a Dr Z Z-Wreck (Celestion AlNiCo Gold; Aston Spirit Condenser; '70s Sennheiser MD441; & sE RNR1 ribbon) with a Schoeps CMC6 room mic.
